Title: Best Memory for ASRock Extreme 4M MB and RAM-OS
Post by: boleary on March 22, 2016, 03:40:23 pm
Am thinking of increasing my memory from 16 to 32 gigs so I have more headroom for Hi Res files (24/192). Here is a link to supported memory for the Extreme 4m MB. http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/X79%20Extreme4/index.us.asp?cat=Memory
Any suggestions on what type of memory should be used with the RAM-OS?

EDIT: Looks like the G.Skill F3-2400C10Q-32GTX, first in the list, is the only 32 gig memory for this MB?

Hi Brian,

It doesn't work like that (for practice). Practice is that the memory must fit under cooler or heat pipe layout. Practice is also that this change by the week because no memory module lasts for long (before new come about).

Supposed you use the NH-L12 cooler (but I really don't know), only a few days back I bought this :
D316GB 1600-999 RipjawsX K4 GSK from GSkill (so this can theoretically be faster - this is 1600 - and of course is 16GB). But this layout (for height) fits and works.

Hope this helps you ...
Peter

Thanks Peter. Since my PC is water cooled and the case is always open space or the height of the RAM is not an issue for me. For SQ does the speed matter? Would 4 sticks of 2400, 8 gig each sound better than 4 sticks of 1600, 4 gig each, which is what I currently have?

Brian,

To be honest I don't know. But the point is : we underclock the processor (like my ~500 MHz) so we don't need the speed of the memory as well (this is about the 2400(MHz) vs the 1600).
IIRC it even takes special measures to let it run so fast and 1333 is the default for your MoBo (??).

Maybe others can tell more about this, as I am not the guy playing around with these things. All I do play around with is the processor speed (and related software settings). And for example, would you let run the processor at 4.4GHz (which it can do) yes then the faster memory would be desired.

Ehm, don't worry about this too much ? All we know for sure is that the faster memory is more expensive.

Regards,
Peter
