Title: Super Offer - XXHighEnd PC for 975 !!
Post by: PeterSt on April 03, 2016, 05:10:57 am
Yes, that sounds like a commercial.

The XXHighEnd PC in its current form must be put to End Of Life; by now it has become too hard to get the parts for it and finding what is needed all over the globe, takes too much time for me.

The PC explicitly anticipates the availability of some Operating System HDD or SSD (or flash drive etc.) at your side, so it comes without that all. There is no HDD etc. anywhere, no OS license, nothing. But you will have that, possibily through the already present RAM OS Disk.

Because the PC now also anticipates no devices connected in the first place, preferably even without OS Disk (like the RAM OS Disk implies), there's also no silent chassis fans and analogue control of them (the knob(s) normally at the back). And, the stock chassis fans of the Silverstone case are disconnected (by us) so the PC is again 100% silent. Notice that no chassis fans are needed when no further devices (except for a graphics card) are in there.

Building the PC in normal fashion, normally took just under two days; the creation of the OS disk and software installation and check + last XXHighEnd install always took 3-4 additional hours. All this is now replaced by a few hours only, all together.

And this is how the last final 18 PC's are allowed to go for 975 euros only.

Of course there is still the 2x 3.5" removable bays, so if needed some storage can be in there (think 2x 8TB these days). The removable 3.5" bay can hold the OS HDD/SSD (and thus nicely removable when it would be the RAM OS Disk).

For those who consider the PC, or for the near future, it is a now or never.
Maybe it is a good hint that peope who consider an Audio PC + Music Server setup, can move their current Audio PC to the role of Music Server PC and use this new XXHighEnd PC for the Audio Task with the notice that it produces even better SQ than the original XXHighEnd PC (there's a little secret here). Otherwise the 12 core hyperthreaded processor is good for any task, of course.

So, 18 left and counting down !

Peter

That's a nice deal.  Please put me down for one while I consider how many B'ASS units I am also getting.

Peter knows I already have one XXHE PC, which will become the Music Server.  I have another PC I was going to use for a Server, but it was built as a gaming PC and it's too loud for my taste.  So instead of spending time and money modifying the gaming PC, might be smarter to get one of these for the RAM Disk and use XXHE PC #1 for the Server.

Couple questions..

Did you mean to imply that you somehow shortened a two day computer build into only a few hours?

And of course, what's this "little secret?" :)

Hi Matt, thank you.

Yes, really so. This starts with the chassis fans (now not) replacement. The way they are contolled (see your knobs in the back) is custom work which even includes some drilling and these days custom wiring. Then there's the pain of routing the wiring from the PSU to actually the three chassis fans, which normally go into the MoBo only but now need separate suppy.

There was "stupid stuff" of the necessity of formatting 2 HDDs and an SSD and copying an OS to one of them.
Preceeding that there's the ever sorting out of what HDD and SSD now are actively sold, because these things run EOL each week, as it seems. Meaning : the purchasing is a pain already.
After this there's the putting of the latest XXHighEnd version, apply some settings to get people started which ... well I gues everybody knows how much time can go into that alone.

Anyway, when we first state that no HDD is going to be in there, then there's no work in that all. Next no (silent) cooling is needed so that can go too. And in the end there's nothing much left to do.

Btw and before someone asks : For as long as it lasts there's the "dual" situation of this offer, while people can also order a NOS1a "with PC". So sadly, for those this offer can not count unless they want an NOS1a and "empty PC" not knowing where to begin. What I want to say is : the very last reincarnation of the XXHighEnd PC (only from the past two months) included the RAM OS Disk (for 1975 all together) with virtually a lot of the same "misery" because I found myself a couple of hours working on that just the same (and then "doing" one OS only !). Thus, if you want to deliver an out of the box working PC it again requires more and that includes the silent fans too, anticipating people not readily having set up an Audio PC - Music Server PC situation, thus inserting music disks and thus requiring cooling whuch has to be completely silent.

Speaking about this ... I just looked and see that we now have 11 of those analogue control means left. Together with the required fans that may be a cost price of 50 euros or so per set. With the notice that these are "1 knob" versions (most people received that the past 1-2 years), and including the desinvestment of 11x 50 otherwise, say that for a 100 more these can be provided after all. Thus 100 extra for 3 chassis fans, analoguely controlled including building them in.

Please, I don't want to talk anyone into these fans and you really don't need them when it is the Audio PC with only the OS disk in there (or no OS disk at all because RAM OS). However, when it will be the Music Server PC, holding the larger disk(s) including some OS Disk (notice that an SSD for that can get really hot just the same !) then it is NOT silent. Not that it blasts through the room, but the stock fans are not much efficient plus, worse, they resonate in the case at some low frequency, you thinking the sound springs from the earth or something.
But stowe it away in some closed or other room and no problem.

Concluded, for 11 left and 100 euros more, we can provide the completely silent fans as always. And in rare situations you can higher the cooling capacity by means of the knob at the back. Side note : I use that myself for the PC I am typing at now, which PC is also used to clone harddisks, which really makes them hot and require additional cooling. So during that process I turn up the knobs a little (you can hear the fans coming up) and all is fine. Done ? then turn them all the way to the left again.

PS: Before people misunderstand :

The stock fans are of course totally silent when they are disconnected from the MotherBoard.
Besides that, they too can be controlled for their revs : by means of the BIOS. But in the lowest setting (thus when connected in the first place) you may perceive that rumble, a bit depending on the placement of the PC.

Peter,

One for me.  I was thinking of doing just this--turning my current Audio PC into the music server.

Hey Peter, quick question: does the XXHighEnd PC come with 16GB of RAM also? I assume it does, but it'd be good to know for certain.

Mani.

Hi Peter,

Just for my information, does the stripped down version of the PC come with the Silverstone USB 3 expansion card & how many ethernet ports does it have? If only one ethernet port does it have expansion slot to add another card.

I believe it contains 16GB RAM, however if I wish to increase it to 24GB, is it possible?

Could you pls give me the model no of the mobo.

How many expansion slots are available in all?

Best regards,

Arvind

Hello Arvind,

No Silverstone (we never supplied that).

1 Ethernet port. Can be extended with a PCIe card in an available free slot (there are 4 slots in total but the video card occupies 2).

24GB of RAM is possible, but not a wise thing to do because it would be 3x 8 then and this is slower than with 4 DIMMs assembled. Thus 4x 8 in that case.

MoBo is ASRock X79 Extreme4-M (is not produced any more).

Best regards,
Peter

Hi,

I am new here although I have been browsing through the forum for quite some time when I have time. I am interested to buy one set of the XXHighEnd PC for 975Euro. And if possible add 100Euro for the silent fans with knob. It is also my plan to buy the NOS1a DAC. Should I send email to Peter or what?  Thanks.

Leung
