Title: Ram-os drive an Windows 8 activation
Post by: AlainGr on June 14, 2016, 03:09:54 pm
Hi Peter,

It seems that there is already an activation key with Windows 8 on the RAM-OS drive ? It got activated without any problem.

Then I attempted to use my own personal activation key from an upgrade DVD that I bought some years ago. This is the one I was using prior to the RAM-OS drive.

It is not accepted.

So now I am with an activated Windows 8, but I am not sure this is correct ?

I checked around to see if there was a tutorial about this or something on the subject but I can't find it ?

Regards,

Alain

Alain,

It is a bit vague how this works these days. This is also because it looks like MS changed strategy retroactively which is all related to Windows 10 strategy. So these days Microsoft servers know from a PC (!) how it has been activated. This is also how these days a fresh Windows 10 can be installed (on empty hdd I mean) while after that no Activation is required because that already was done in the past and it thus still is Activated.

Try to be careful with such attempts, because the normal procedures already fail half of the time, let alone the strange ones. So what you could be doing (maybe you don't but unconsciously it could happen) is that this PC which has been activated for Windows 10, now is activated for Windows 8. These procedures too exist, but from formal downgrade (roll back). Well, you surely did not do that. So at some stage things can not be proved any more and what remains is that you formally need to uninstall your happily running (RAM) OS which is not what you want.

Btw, Windows 8 Activation (screen) is no problem, thinking about Alt-F4 (once per day). Point *here* is, you can't go anywhere again because you are not connected to the network so you have to bail out ...
I say it one more time : my Audio PC never has seen the Internet and all is made to deal with such a situation ...
But be legal !

Regards,
Peter

Peter,

I haven't activated any Windows 10 version since the beginning, nor have I updated any Windows 8 to Windows 10 in any way, including before and after the RAM-OS got here.

I was wondering if the fact that my Windows 8 DVD is French could explain the rejection, but at this point I will make sure I have at least another vhd copy of that activated W8 elsewhere to prevent any need to activate it again.

Be assured that I will not try to activate anything else on the RAM-OS drive and there will be no more access to internet unless an update requires it (a new XXHE version for example with a need to activate).

Thanks for you recommendations.

Alain
