Title: XXHE 2.06 ChangeWP error
Post by: acg on June 20, 2016, 11:50:51 pm
Hello Peter,

So, on my Music Server, which is also a work computer, I have installed the 2.06 patch over 2.05 and have hit a problem.  The files extracted fine over the correct directory and I had no problems, however when I start XXHE 2.06 it performs its pre-load 'assembly' on my left hand screen as it normally does, but before it finishes it comes up with a dialogue box..."Open File - Security Warning"  "The publisher cannot be verified, are you sure you want to run this software?" "J:\XXHighEnd\2.05\ChangeWP.exe" et cetera.  The box is surrounded in the XXHE red theme rather than the normal windows theme and the options available to me are Run and Cancel.  I hit Run and nothing happens, but Cancel works and XXHE brings up another dialogue box as follows...

"Load Settings"
"Initialization FAILED during loading of settings at phases :121;

Do you want to try to load a previously (auto) saved settings preset settings file?"

Does not matter which setting file I load, nothing works and when XXHE is started next time I have to go through the same rigmarole.

Do you have any clues?

Regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

I had the same situation with copy/paste new files over 2.04 on my AudioPC but did not choose 'Cancel' button even I was aware that 'ChangeWP' was not executed.
My upgrade went under 'normal' W10 (re-booted from minimized). Returning to minimized W10 brought the same info/warning message again. However, this time, clicking
'Run' successfully called and executed 'ChangeWP.exe'. Few more errors appeared - all related to my re-named XXHE directory, from 2.04 to 2.06. And yes, borders of this
info/warning window were in XXHE style, not Win style.

Anthony,

Did you too make a new directory for 2.06 ? (or possibly similar to what George did) ?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

No, I have not made a new directory...I just extracted the files over the old 2.05 directory.  Not sure what is going on.

Anthony

Thanks George,

Unfortunately this computer, the Music Server, does not run in Minimised so I cannot test out that procedure.

Peter, I should have mentioned that this in Win8.0 Pro.

Anthony

J:\XXHighEnd\2.05

Yes, you actually said that right from the start. Apologies.

Although I had something else in mind (related to rights and documented with the same error (!)) I still have this question :

- What is J: ? (it looks odd to me to not have it on C:)
- Can you expect that certain special rights are in order on that volume ?

Thanks,
Peter

The drive is J...that computer has a lot of drives.

No special permissions either on that drive.

Still it has to be something like that. Anyway and in general :
If possible, answer the question with "run" and "never ask me again". But I wonder whether this latter question is there. If not, it is unsolvable.

Or did you find a way to work around it ?

Possibly this is a kind of fire back on what I thought was nice : paste a few changed programs over the existing folder. But now the procedure of testing all the programs whether they run and "whether to ask next time" is not performed. This is about "and when you don't answer the questions as should, things go wrong under the hood" (you may recall that message during a normal install).

Can you go to a command prompt, go into your XX folder with CD commands like :

J:
CD \XXHighEnd\2.05

and then type

ChangeWP

Maybe then it comes up with that appropriate question.

Let me know.

Hi Peter,

To be honest I have not had time to do more to chase down the issue, so the problem is still there.

I did as you suggested and could not get ChangeWP.exe to run either from a normal prompt or with Cmd "Run as Administrator".  The program was sitting there is the directory, I could see it, but it would not run.

So, that got me to thinking...I went into Explorer and ran ChangeWP.exe from there and it ran fine...the "Run" button worked as it should have and now XXHE 2.06 starts on the Music Server.  I just downloaded a Tidal album to be sure and it worked as it should...the only possible issue is that the title bar is now blue and not red...

Cheers,

Anthony

It is totally unclear to me how this can have happened by your described activities. I'd say "impossible".
If you meanwhile changed folder names, perhaps although I can't see how that will change things either.

Something must be odd with that J:.

If you can spare a moment, can you elaborate why J: in the first place ? Why not normal C: ?

It is an office computer.  C, D, E, F, G, I, J, Q are all individual drives and J is the one with some music and XXHighEnd installed (and nothing else).  J is a Samsung 840 SSD, 750GB or 1TB something like that.

I never did create a new directory or change the name of the existing XXHE directory.
