Title: Unboxing the ram OS disc...eh..grrr...think....read....
Post by: JohanZ on August 19, 2016, 02:31:43 pm
Hi Peter,
A long time ago(i think january 2016) i've bought the ram os disc from you. But i never start the installation proces for different reasons. Several times i started to read the heavy manual. After some new releases/updates for the ram disc OS, is there a handy method to get it operate. Or do i have to follow all the steps in release / time order?

Are the tutorials for the ramdisk OS still actual and compleet?

To small other questions:
During all the discussions on the forum about the RAM disc os i have the impression that i need an grafic card or am i wrong? I'm using the graphic card on the motherboard.
On the motherboard I have 32MB of ram. Is that a problem for the ram OS disk. I have red your instructions to increment the ram usage for the ram OS. I suppose that i can increment that at a later moment?

Best regard,

johan

I don't think anything has changed anywhere. Or it must be the by now Expired 10565 which could be not handy. If you need to boot into that, set the system date to Sept. 2, 2015.

If you receive that error about "does not fit in memory" at booting from RAM, probably yes. But I would first just try it (I think it does not fail by guarantee).

Apart from that you mean to say 32GB instead of 32MB, I don't understand.
a. you don't need more memory anyway, 16GB assumed;
b. let alone that you would need more than 32GB.
... OK, it would be correct that you will need more than 32MB, but since your PC will not be from 1985 I am confident that twas a typo.

Now, if all is right you made a provision to exchange the OS Disk easily. This means that "now" you can run the OS you were used to, and 3 minutes later you will boot from the RAM-OS Disk. So ... just try it ?
IIRC it boots into 10586.0 Normal OS. From there you can make slow small next steps. Fed up with it for the day ? then put back in your regular OS Disk and play some music.

Peter
