Title: Is MinOs safe now?
Post by: pedal on August 20, 2016, 03:30:21 pm
Hi,

I am (still) running W10 10586.0 with XX 2.03a.
At the time I installed it, I think it was in January, I was told "Minimized OS" was not possible, because I could loose control of the PC or something.

QUESTION: What is the situation today? How do I get the MinOS?

pedal,

Maybe others know more, but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Maybe you mix up with Windows 10 not being suitable for "office work" and that kind of thing, when in Minimized OS Mode.
That would be true today still.

10586.0 is very stable, even for rightclick on the Start Burtton.
14393.0 does not allow to control the TaskBar or Start Button.
But this is not to be confused with playing Audio as we do it, and when totally nothing lacks.

As I said, maybe others know better what you mean or have heard.

Regards,
Peter

pedal,

It was a problem occurring in the very beginning of your W10 trials, IIRC, but probably (surely) it involved an earlier version than 10586.0.

------

So, now I just activated MinOS, rebooted and voila! - everything works fine. With MinOs activated, I can change Q5 from 0 to 1, and lower the SFS from 0,3 to 0,2 (stutter free with 24/192 hi-Rez).

First impression: Cleaner sound, more ease and tidier soundstage.

PS: For evaluation today I used Eagles Desperado 24/192, one of my favorites. It used to be a popular demo-disk on vinyl, but I never found the digital versions particularly good sounding. I guess today's revealing system is too revealing of its production. Anyway, right now it sounds pretty well. The MinOS tamed the splashing cymbals and tied up the soundstage.

Hi Peter,

If I recall correctly, there were problems with display when using Win 10 build 10074 in Min OS (the icons were disappearing under certain conditions, but it was not preventing XXHE from doing its magic).

But I barely remember these times - so many things have happened in one year and a half...

Hi Alain - Maybe, ... thanks.

... But what I know is that no XXHighEnd version will be out there in any circumstance - of which it is known to be devastating. The version is withdrawn or large characters tell not to use it, or to use it with prescription; that sort of thing.
And I don't recall that.

But it is not important either. What is, is that someone virtually waits for 6 months (since January) until some solution comes about for, well, something which did not require a solution. Moral (sort of) : if people wait that long, something must be amiss with the reason for it.

Thanks,
Peter

I am sorry, I did not read the time correctly... What I was talking about took place somewhere in the very beginning of Windows 10, but nothing of the order that would prevent anyone from playing in Minimized OS.

My bad.
