Title: Win 10 B14393.0 Free Memory warning message
Post by: AlainGr on September 03, 2016, 04:45:03 pm
Peter,

Is there something special that would trigger this ? For the moment, I haven't "harvested" information about it. It appears when I press PLAY.

Minimized, attended, RAM mode, with almost same settings (as yours) (tweaks and Qs)... Arc Prediction, x16...

If there is something I need to send that may be of help...

Regards,

Alain
PS: Too many things on my mind right now. My settings are like yours with the Stealth PC...

Hi Alain,

I actually don't know. But IIRC someone else had similar since some W10 version ? (maybe 6 weeks or so ago)
If the message keeps on bugging you ... In Settings there's a Garbage Collect setting; turn that Off and the message won't appear. But the real message to you is that something is slow. Can well be the PC itself ...

FYI : I have never seen any PC setting or configuration which influences this (I never receive the message either - okay, mybe once per year). It tells you that the processor cycles spent on Garbage Collection (say the cleanup of unused memory) is more than expected (read : there's too much mess inside to take it easy with that). If it keeps on appearing also after a second and third press of play, I'd investigate "something". What I don't know ... :swoon:

Regards,
Peter

PS: What's that FreeMem.bat I see doing ?

Hi Peter,

You are right. My machine is slow when I choose 43 for the balanced settings and leave the "Provide Stable Power" at 0 (If I change this to 1 the CPU throttles at its maximum: 1.2ghz (as I have adjusted it a long time ago at a ratio of 12 (I think)). I will try different combinations to see when if does this and when it stops...

I should have told you that I was working in Attended mode.

The freeMem.bat is related to that hibernate thing with this build. Inside it I see:
echo off
powercfg -h Off

Unless I am mistaken, it is with the latest "small" win 10 B14393.0 download ?

Thanks again :)

Alain

Correct; that download has it solved permanently (thus also when booting the OS from RAM).

Best regards,
Peter

I had the same error but only once after first boot into Ram Os from Base Os. On 2nd and more Ram Os boots it doesn't happen.

Only happens in this situation for me.

With the removal of the Garbage Collection, it seems to stop giving this warning. And as Peter mentioned, if the PC is adjusted too slow, it can trigger releated problems. Sometimes, if the CPU ratio goes too low, the clock may show values like 170mhz and the PC is much too slow. When I bring it back to 1.2ghz, the PC is much more responsive. Evn so, the message was still appearing but now with Garbage Collection OFF, all is fine.

Thanks Peter :)

If you only realize that this button is not to show the message for fun; it actually does something, for better sound.

Peter

Sorry to learn this Peter. Since I have started using XXHighEnd, I never had it ON. This time, I left it as it was.

I am quite surprised about this, altough I have read the documentation, I can't recall where its importance is mentioned...

I know this is an old topic, but I wish to note something.

Since re engaging Garbage Collect which does improve sound this small error has come back but only on fresh boot into Ram OS and first playback audio files. After this the error does not appear again at all, no matter how many files I play.

I'm not sure if at initial turn on computer is lagging but then catches up once OS/xx settles and the problem disappears.

Robert,

Right after a boot, the OS has performed many tasks (or is even still perfroming them) which all leaves dirty memory behind. If you then "garbage collect" this in one go, the system (XXHighEnd) detects that it is still "working on it" and thus gives you the message.

This is perfectly normal (read : not detrimental to SQ) if it happens only once after the boot and if you reject the message and press Play again.

Best regards,
Peter
