Title: Can't connect via RDC without video card
Post by: arvind on September 17, 2016, 10:39:50 am
Hi Guys,

Since a week I have been using the Mach II 2640 as Audio PC, I'm not going to comment on the SQ since too many things have changed, so in all fairness any comment would not be fair.

Initially I didn't remove the video card but just disconnected it from the mobo. Yesterday I switched off the Audio PC & removed the video card. On switching on the Audio PC I am unable to connect to the Music Server using the std Windows RDC. I get connection error. I am using static IP address for connection.

Can anyone help with a solution?

Best regards,

Arvind

Arvind,

Can you show a (readable) screenshot of that "connection error" ? I just want to know how that message looks like, because I've never heard of it. Meanwhile tell us when that message occurs (you click "this" and after about x seconds "that" happens etc.).

Is that a bit of mis-phrasing ?
If the music server is your remote control then you should say "can't connect to the Audio PC". Not nit picking, but possibly it is an indication of doing things we don't expect.

Lastly, your static IP address is - at least to me - something unknown. Ok, I know what it is of course, but I don't use (it like) that. To be sure it's not the culprit I'd switch this off (take it out).
Of course you must again obtain the IP address and feed that to the RDC program on the remote, but it could be worth the trial. I myself really have no other options in mind why it would not work, and FYI the same Audio PC worked without video card over here.

Oh, if you changed something in the BIOS then obviously it could be that (not that I would know exactly what, but I am confident it can matter (UEFI vs BIOS stuff).

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

A very strange solution to this problem. I changed the ethernet connection in the Audio PC to the second port & the connection was established. Hard to believe this.

Best regards

You can say that !!
And it wasn't in that second connection prior to taking out the video card ? (sorry for the possibly superfluous question)

Sorry can't recall which one.

Hi Arvind,

If you changed Ethernet port on the PC it is not strange that it stopped working;
Those two ports have a unique (IP) Address, otherwise one wouldn't be able to use both at the same time ...

Anyway, learnt something again. :)

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Aha so that must have been the issue, after removing the video card I must have plugged into the other ethernet port which had a different ip address. So my static ip address didn't work.

Live & learn.

Arvind

I figured it out :-)

Not working: Min-OS + Ram-OS + shutdown PC + Power Off + remove video card

Working: Min-OS + Base OS + shutdown PC + Power Off + remove video  card
