Title: XTweaks : Balanced Load Question
Post by: boleary on October 30, 2016, 02:14:05 am
Hi Peter, in both W10586 and W10 14393 after setting balanced load to 43 and playing a few tracks, when the GUI returns from unattended the balanced load setting has automatically changed to 100.This happens whether or not i tick the "PC is Stealth Mach II" box. I then have to manually set the balanced load back to 43 each time the GUI comes back from unattended. Picture below is GUI after playing tracks.

Hi Brian,

This is the Boost setting at the bottom of that section (not visible in your screenshot).
No need to set it back to 43 each time, because the system will do that for you. However, I now wonder whether something is wrong after all, because in no circumstance it should jump back to 100 visually. Thus, Boost does that internally and not visually.
I suppose you do *not* have Boost activated and now things go odd ...

Hi Peter,
I noticed this 100 balanced load resetting too.

Another thing i see in the picture is the scalability 'problem'. Not all characters are shown 100%. I have try to solve this via the scale setting (1,50) without succes so far. Any suggestions?

Johan

Johan,

The scaling just is so. But in the end this springs from an actually "too much" scaling. Not that I'm asking ot make it less, because it really doesn't bother - as long as you know a bit what you are doing, right ? (a shown 00 will be 100 undoubtedly).

Theoretically I will be able to improve it, but I think I have better things to do first. :)

Kind regards,
Peter

Thanks Peter. I do have the boost setting activated in both OS's. Would leaving the date in the BIOS at the September 2015 date cause this? I woke a little while ago and realized I forgot to reset the date after installing 14393.

In that case I don't understand. I mean, if I start XXHighEnd after Unattended Playback I see my 43 back as set. Nothing reverts to 100 ...

Can you tell me the 100% exact sequence of what you do, I guess starting out with setting the 43, and ending with XXHighEnd coming up (by what means ??) showing 100 ?

Thanks,
Peter

Well, I set it to 43 and tick the apply button in X Tweaks and the  value in parenthesis changes to 43, or I tick the Mach II button and tick apply and the value in parenthesis changes to 43. I then either let a track play to the end and the GUI returns or I "control/alt/x" to stop the track before its finished and, in either case, the value is as in my picture above.

I now have a new but I think related problem. XXHighend will not open. When I shut down last night I was in 14393, RAMOS. So that's what is booting now. However, XXHighend will not open. When I double click on the icon on the desktop I get the change in the taskbar, see photos below, but that's as far as it goes. The program never opens. I've waited as long as ten minutes. I've rebooted three times with the same result each time.

In Settings, top section, you can load back the last OK Settings, like those saved yesterday.
Choose a file first ([...] button the line above the Load button - you will see) and then press Load.

No idea where the "settings" are? Without XX open I cannot get to any settings. Do you mean to open the XX folder in Explorer?

Brian,

I think you misjudged how it works. So, you refer to the (first) screenshot as "see ? that is how it looks right after playback !". Well ... it looks fine !
Your 43 is half hidden but it will be obvious to you that the 43 is in there, but what you did not realize (or never knew) is that the number between braces is the actual setting. Thus, between the braces is 100 which in this case means 100% and while your setting is 43, right at this moment this is not active because your Boost setting (which makes it 100 when you're out of Playback). The 43 indicates what will happen when you start playback again (Unattended only).

What could be confusing is that especially this parameter is now changing in MinOS dynamically. I mean, the numbers between the braces are meant to tell you in general what is active at this time, and which in Normal OS can well be different for all the parameters in this section, because in Normal IS they are just not applied. So, you set the values for those parameters all right in Normal OS, but you can press Apply what you want, they won't come through; only in MinOS they will and then automatically (already after booting and without firing op XXHighEnd).

This Balanced Load now dynamically changes when you start XXHighEnd and it gives it the full boost = 100%, assumed you want to have that fast and are not interested in good SQ (while you just stopped Playback anyway). Bbbbut ...
When you press Apply it (the lower speed etc.) will be applied anyway, no matter XXHighEnd has been brought up and Boost is active. So it "unboosts" at that moment (no real reason to do that IMO but alas it works like that).

So all summarized ... You are not changing back to 43 each time (remember, the number is still in there) but you think you need to press Apply each time and watch the number between braces;
Not necessary because XXHighEnd will apply it for you, when you quit XXHighEnd (and that really is sufficient - no need to press Play).

OK ?

Peter

LOL
got me

They are in your XXData folder (the "PresetLoader" files with XXSS extension).
Pick the one from yesterday and copy it to the XX folder (I suppose in BASE in your case) but also rename it to PresetLoader.XXSI after deleting that (now corrupted) original file first.

Btw, for fun you can also try the PresetLoader.bak file (copy to PresetLoader.XXSI) because that also should be able to do the job when not too many strange things happened meanwhile. If that works, you'll know for the nex time what to do.

Sorry for the confusion. By bad.
Peter

Sorry for the late reply, got sidetracked canvassing for the Clinton campaign. It's because I understand that what is between parenthesis in the XTweaks settings is what is actually active that I asked my first question: Why, with "Boost" active and after the GUI returns from unattended play, does it show 100 between parenthesis when I originally set it to 43. Are you now saying (with Boost active) that when I hit play again it will automatically revert back to 43 and there will be no effect on SQ?

Yes, that is what I'm saying. Additionally, this already happens when you just quit the XXHighEnd GUI; This is because you can also bring up XXHighEnd with Alt-x which does not stop Playback ... (and thus you won't hit Play again either, when done with the GUI).

FYI :

Below you see the same section of Settings with the maximum Scaling of 3.51. This looks all fine to me (but with the notice of the anomaly of the button (text) all the way at the bottom).
This implies that you already applied scaling at the OS level (the 125% / 150% / custom font (DPI) scaling of the monitor). This scaling never works well, depending on the program involved (and XXHighEnd tries to deal with it at its best with (thus) the notice that it scales itself already which is more rare).
