Title: No sound after 10 sec
Post by: Andre on January 25, 2017, 01:27:22 pm
Hi Peter,
doing preparation for activation and making permanent setup, I have just installed XXHighEnd 2.07 on a Windows 10 Home 64-bit (build 14393.0).
However the sound disappears after 10 seconds of playing (the sound was also with terrible distortions during those 10seconds).
I rebooted PC but that did not help.
Also the Player for some reason launches itself after I close its window...
I also tryed XXHighEnd 2.07 on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 64-bit (build 14393.576) (in a trial mode not activated, of course) to test only and there is no problem with sound at all.
However I am going to use W10 Home for my music machine so I need to solve this problem.
I am attaching logs from the problematic machine...

Hi Andre,

Home is almost "forbidden" because too many things won't work well. And if you don't run into them today, you will tomorrow (could be RDC which is not available in Home).

If the issue is not with Home in general (and I never heard of that but please notice that I'd say that exactly nobody is using Home afaik), then try to fiddle with settings such as Q1 (including the Q1Factor) and the SFS (Split File Size). You may not be able to solve it right away, but the least you should do is noticing a difference (like now it holds for more (or less) than 10 seconds).

If this would be a "bandwidth" issue (and then thinking about Home being more poor on this than the Enterprise version), *and* if you feel confident already anyway, it is my genuine advice to get the Activation Code because all can take (say) 10 times more now (I refer to Minimized OS Mode). One thing : the Memory setting like Straight Contiguous is one important setting regarding "bandwidth" as such, and you may not easily be able to set that for Home (not easily - it can be done though (in Demo as well); there's a tutorial for it somewhere).

Btw, if you really encounter "terrible distortions" it is my idea that it can just be Q1 being way to low, OR that you use KS Special Mode for a DAC (your NAD if I see correctly) which can not take that (which would be quite normal - not to be able to take that).

Btw, I mentioned a few things which maybe I can derive from the log files but you abusively attached 2x the same X3, and not X3 + X3PB. So if you additionally can attach the X3PB from the same situation ... (it is allowed to do it all over with then a new set of log files).

And can you tell me whether this was Unattended (GUI indeed disappears automatically) or normally Attended ? You hint at the former ("automatically comes back") but don't say it explitcitly. And because of the anomaly in the first place it is more difficult to see for me.

Thanks,
Peter

Ok, it seems I have solved the issue by completely deleting XXHighEnd-207 folder and then unzipping and running (unnecessary?) Setup.exe in the new folder. I have good sound now as I have had from W10 Enterprise LTSB trial mode ;)
Which services I can kill (disable) in W10 Services Manager and which are absolutely necessary for a smooth run of XXHighEnd?
I am not going to use the machine for anything else but music playing. Maybe only converting flacs to wavs.
Sorry for duplicate log file and here is the right one:

Andre, nothing to kill for Services. XXHighEnd does that all for you (but to the extreme for Minimized OS mode). And, best is even to stay out of such things (when using XXHighEnd) because it is quite easy to make things inconsistent (which is up to you but I won't understand your problems, later).

Side note : If you can set Straight Continuous memory then I don't know of anything else that lacks in Home (also not SQ wise), except that you won't be able to use a Remote Control (which in our case goes over RDC).

Thanks for the feedback and Regards,
Peter
