Title: Can't get any XX versions to work any more
Post by: manisandher on February 15, 2017, 07:20:00 pm
I decided to update my stand-alone RAM-OS HDD (not the one that came with the Mach II, but the one I purchased independently).

The RAM-OS HDD already had 2.06a installed, which was working perfectly. I installed the 2.07-over-2.06a files into the 2.xx folder. I tried starting 2.07 and got the first message attached below. I also got the second message at some point - I can't remember exactly when because I've tried so many other things since then that it's all become a bit of a blur.

Right now, no XX versions will work. As soon as I start them, I get the second message immediately.

Any ideas?

Mani.

Hey Mani,

"No XX versions will work". That sounds suspicious ...

Assuming that you're not referring to 14393, 15860 etc, OSes, how's the plural emerging in that sentence ?

I'm only asking to possibly receive more data points (I never heard of a complaint like this till now).

Regards,
Peter

... how's the plural emerging in that sentence ?

I'm using 14393 exclusively.

What I meant with the plural is that neither 2.06a or 2.07 now works. I tried 2.06a just before I loaded 2.07, and it worked perfectly. I did this specifically because I hadn't used this RAM-OS HDD for quite a while and just wanted to make sure everything was OK. So 2.06a used to work fine.

After launching 2.07 and getting the error messages, I thought I'd just try 2.06a. But it wouldn't start at all. I then messed around with UAC settings and managed to get both 2.06a and 2.07 to actually launch, but only up to the point of getting the error messages (attached in earlier post) - the error messages are identical for both 2.06a and 2.07.

I strongly suspect this has something to do with UAC.

But Mani ...

Maybe I misinterpret, but how can you ever have a 206a *and* 2.07 at the same time. Thus :

Quote
I installed the 2.07-over-2.06a files into the 2.xx folder.

I suppose you'll understand that these both can-not combine, because you overwrote the one with the other.
This is fine in itself, but as a. something is not working now (which just should) and b. you seem to assume both *can* be working, this should lead to the data points I am seeking for.

Anyway, let's conclude that we can't solve this tonight. It is too odd in my view. Will be solved eventually of course !

Regards,
Peter

Yep, nothing more to do tonight. But just to say that I deleted everything and created two separate folders, one for 2.07 and one for 2.06a...

... which can't work and shouldn't be done to begin with for the RAM OS (massively inconvenient for any future).

I think what you can try now is copy the 2.xx folder (structure) from e.g. the 10586.0 OS including the XXData folder in there, to the 14393.0 OS;
Boot into 10586.0 (BASE or RAM), attach the 14393.0 OS and copy said structures from drive C: to Drive X: (leave XXHighEnd running or drive X: will be gone).

I can help you further with it, if necessary, but I don't think today any more.

Thanks Peter - that was really helpful and it's all working now. What I actually did was simply copy the 2.xx and XXData folders from the Mach II RAM-OS onto the RAM-OS HDD of my other audio PC.

Thanks again.

Mani.
