Title: Using dedicated machine to prepare Tidal streams
Post by: briefremarks on October 01, 2017, 04:23:16 am
All,

A quick question to see if anyone has tried using a dedicated machine (NOT the music server) to prepare Tidal streams with XXHE.  Here is context to my question.

- Currently I am using the Stealth PC as audio player, and the original XXHE PC as music server.  XXHE is installed on both machines BUT neither is currently connected to the Internet.  The XXHE PC has only one ethernet port, currently used to for a local network with the Audio PC.
- I'd like to be able to use a separate machine, connected to the internet, with XXHE on it, to prepare Tidal streams.  the question is, can the prepared streams then be copied over to the music server in the appropriate directory and work properly.

Thanks for any help.

Of course they can.  You will need a network card for your XXHE PC (MusicServer) so that you can connect it to your Tidal computer via an ethernet cable in exactly the same way as you do with the MusicServer to AudioPC.  Point XXHE on your Tidal machine to the correct directories on the MusicServer and it will be all automatic.

Anthony,

Let me explain a little more.  I'm often traveling, and what I would like to be able to do is prepare Tidal streams on a machine that is NOT connected to my normal setup, storing the streams locally on the machine or on a hard drive attached to it, and THEN when I am back home be able to transfer the prepared streams to the music server.  I'm assuming that the files can be transferred.  Wanted to confirm if prepared Tidal streams can be played by XXHE without internet connectivity or need to log into Tidal.

Ah, ok.  I doubt that you will have any problems at all.

Hi Ramesh,

Anthony is correct. The prep'ed music will be picked up on your Audio PC later, just as usual (but you don't know yet whay "usual" is).
But you coud automate it a bit more than you might think of;

What I would do is make that "travel-disk" the standard disk for preparing the streams Thus, also when at home and playing music. Say you will give it drive letter T:.
When attached to the travel PC (laptop) you can also give it the driver letter T: (I am not sure whether this is only convenient or pratically necessary). And, when you get back home you just move the disk to the Music Server PC.

You may think that it is strange to have such a removable (probably USB) disk attached to your Music Server PC but then you never saw my Music Server with 4 of them attached like this, permanently (I have no need to travel with them). It is just a means to attach storage, but make it USB3 for the necessary speed.

If you combine all with working with Galleries, then at looking for albums on the Audio PC with the removable disk coincidentally not attached, will do no harm anywhere (because you see the Gallery data). Only when you'd actually want to play a file from the removable disk (which thus is not attached) you will get errors (this starts with all the track times showing as 0:00).
