Title: New XXHE Install: Specified module could not be found
Post by: briefremarks on November 25, 2017, 08:21:15 am
All,

It's been a while since I did new install of XXHE on a machine.  Just downloaded the 2.09 RAR.  Unzipped in folder (XXHighEnd\2.xx).  Created XXData folder.  Downloaded and installed .NET 3.5 from the link in the 2.09  release notes.  Started XXHighEnd, and get a alert message box with Title on left "Initialize Component".  Message "The specified module could not be found. (Exception result from HRESULT:0x8007007E).  I gather that something is missing.  Tried deleting everything and doing over a few times, but still get this message.  Not sure how to proceed.

Appreciate any help.

Ramesh

A quick background to my last note.  What I am trying to do is install 2.09 on a laptop to be used mostly to just prepare Tidal files for play.

A little more detail.

I had originally unzipped the 2.09 RAR into a folder C:\Phasure.  After moving all files back to C:\Phasure, I can now bring up XXHE, except there is no sound with either sound device I tried: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) or MSB DAC.

DAC output set to 16/44.1; no Fx in XXHE.

Hi Ramesh,

I don't hear you talk about that message now not occurring any more. So is that out of th way in good fashion ?

??

Otherwise check your .exe's for being "blocked". You will find that at rightclicking on the files and I think under Preperties. Easy to unblock them from there.

Peter,

Thanks for this.  The update is as follows:

- I had originally unzipped the 2.09 RAR files in a folder called C:\Phasure. I was able to run XXHE but NOT get any sound;
- I tried reinstalling by deleting the C:\Phasure folder, and extracting RAR files to C:\XXHighEnd\2.xx as I have it on the other machines.  This is when I received the "Specified modules could not be found" message.
- When I re-created a C:\Phasure folder again and then extracted RAR files to this folder, the message disappeared, BUT still no sound.  The tracks play, the time advances, but no sound.  This is using the Speakers (High Definition Audio) sound device on my laptop--which I want to make my Tidal machine.
- Sound works for other applications, I can play YouTube clips, and both the Tidal web player and desktop application.

So two different problems:
- The first installation seems to have "hard-coded" C:\Phasure as the location where XXHE expects to find something; not sure where this happens.  But essentially I cannot reinstall in another folder without the "specified modules cannot be found" message
- The second issue is no sound even when XXHE is playing.  I have tried various combinations for DAC settings.  One point is that "Adaptive" mode and 4096 buffer size seem to be fixed and not changeable with this sound device selected.  It is the only sound device available on the laptop.

Sorry for what is probably a simple thing or error on my part.

Ramesh,

Always close the Tidal player as it hoggs the sound device (not sure what you notice of that).

Switch on Loggin (bottom in Settings).
Kill Engine3.exe.
Start playback. When you see it should be playing, grab the latest XX-, X3- and X3PB- logfiles from the TemporaryData subfolder. Post these.

OK ?

Peter

Peter,

Here they are.  Keep in mind that this version of 2.09 has not yet been activated.  If I remember that should not matter.  Need to activate this once I get it working.

Attaching files separately as upload fails

Peter, the upload was failing I think because the X3PB files is 0KB and nothing in it

Did you examine those exes for being blocked ? (see post from yesterday)

Peter,

I did check the .exe files.  They are not blocked.  I killed the XXEngine3 (blue button), and started play again.  Got the series of messages around "Clock resolution requested was not received; requested 15ms, received 1.003 ms"; then "This could be WSAPI problem or some other cause", then statement about renaming the ClockRes file to remove this message.

This all makes no sense. Each time different messages and especially the last set is just totally normal. And no issue to be seen.
You tell (in another situation) that playback commenses, but no sound.
Folder names matter - though they can't.
In a next, you tell nothing about playback, but can not find log files.

It isn't going to work out this way. Haha.

Deactivate / Uninstall all your virus protection software. With all this inconsistency (unless it is you yourself :)) it should be that.

I think ColinY had a similar problem with Bit Defender.

Regards,
Peter

Peter,

There is sound, and it has been working all along EXCEPT I need to get the volume higher than -10dB to HEAR anything.

Thanks very much.

Ramesh

Ramesh - Do you realy care ?
(I don't understand nothing much of this, but what it is about then ?)

Peter,

Sorry, I think we have language confusion here.

I did care when I thought I was getting no sound.  Thank you for helping with this.  But then I realized after turning the volume all the way up that there was sound, except at a very low level so I needed to turn it up to -10db to hear anything at all.  Even at 0db it is faint, BUT none of this matters because I only plan to prepare Tidal albums on this machine.

Thank you Peter for taking the time, and sorry to have wasted it!!

I will go ahead with activation, and I should be set.

Ramesh

Hi Ramesh. That is what I meant with my "do you really care ?".
After that (Activation) we can try to find out whether the low level is normal or not, for that laptop. But by now I could point you to the system volume which maybe could attenuate the sound. I don't think it can, but ... (a lot of things might have changed since this was all developed).

Good luck now and thanks for holding on !
