Title: End of 1.xx support (sort of)
Post by: PeterSt on May 26, 2019, 11:05:14 am
All,

Only day before yesterday I wrote this :

Otherwise I have been working for weeks on fi-nal-ly a 64 bit OS for my main PC, actually in use since Windows 2000 (always upgraded but which can only be done to 32 bits). A huge task, finished last week.

to find out today that someone wanted a new Activation Key for his 1.xx version which I can't generate any more. I never even thought of this when I was struggling a bit with getting the 2.xx Key Generation to work again for this software which was created 12 years or so ago. So point is :
This software had to be re-installed, which in this case implies re-compile and linking and a bit more, which I can't even do any more for the old 1.xx software (I just don't have that program code any more). So as long as it remained installed it was fine. But that could not happen with this transition from the 32 bit to the 64 bit OS.

And so people with 1.xx (which includes 0.xx ()) are "advised" to obtain a new Activation Code by PayPal. Good for me, but good for you as well because if you are still on 1.xx you hugely miss out by now (more so with the upcoming 2.11).

Having said this, this morning I also discovered that I forgot about the XXHighEnd installs all together. So at this very moment obtaining a Code via PayPal also does not even work. And then to think that this morning way early the very last thing I thought I had to do was setting up a new Backup means (now running), while right after that it appeared that I forgot something quite crucial. :scratching:
I assume this in itself will be solved soon. When so I will announce this in a next post. And oh, if you have paid the 72 euros to PayPal and never heard anything back, don't worry BUT let me know. I mean, this is mainly about the emailing system which hasn't been set up for PayPal yet, so I myself won't even see any message about a license purchase.

Regards,
Peter

So at this very moment obtaining a Code via PayPal also does not even work.

Hey Peter, we're having some work done on the house (a new kitchen and a total rework of the garden) and the workers tripped a fuse to the circuit which powers my music server, causing W10 to start behaving strangely. After a couple of days of trying to repair W10 with various tools (with no luck) I tried to reinstall it on the same SSD. But it just wouldn't do it. Finally, I decided to buy a nice M.2 SDD and installed W10 freshly onto that.

The upshot is that I've had to reinstall everything onto the new SSD, including the XX version that I use for preparing Tidal albums. But I can't prepare Tidal albums without XX being activated. Soooooo, do you have any idea when you might get the PayPal functionality working again?

(No real urgency, as I can stream from Roon->HQPlayer->NOS1 for now. But of course, I'd like to enjoy the very best SQ at some point.)

Cheers,
Mani.

Hi Mani,

It seems unbelievable but I am still working on that. As a matter of fact I just wanted to continue with it (again).

Btw, providing the code is not the problem (read : the manual procedure would still work, for 2.xx that is). The problem is stupid PayPal which just doesn't pass on your email address to the pages involved, so you wouldn't be able to get an email with the Code.
But I am making something "manual" now. I mean, you can enter your email address on the order page and that can be passed on. Or something like that.

But as said, the manual procedure still works (if you still know how to apply that).

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter, no, I can't remember how to do that. I'm not even sure if I've installed XX correctly - I have the feeling that there were a few things I should have done with the OS before/after. But being purely for 'Tidal preparation', I couldn't see that it would require anything (changing the UAC setting, for example). In any event, XX works, in that music plays in Normal/Attended through the DAC connected to the music server - not that I have much need for doing this really.

Do you have an email you could fire across to me reminding me of how to activate manually?

Mani.
