Title: XXHE window gone rogue
Post by: acg on November 10, 2019, 06:17:38 am
Hi Peter,

Hopefully this is a simple one to fix.  Before I press play the screen of my tablet which is RDC'd into the MusicServer looks like Before.jpg, after playing and return to XXHE GUI it looks like After.jpg, which is obviously different, then if I exit XXHE and then restart it, it looks like After Restart.jpg.  All three are different.

Sorry, but I cannot figure out how to insert images into the text, so you will need to look at the attachments.

The problem started when my long suffering iPad was replaced with a SurfacePro with a much higher screen resolution.

Cheers,

Anthony

Hey Anthony,

What I miss is the [2] slider. Well, in Before.jpg you can barely see it in the top-right corner. I would drag that leftwards to begin with. It may not help, but it may help determining what is going bananas.

A good idea for all RDC connections is not to use the normal RDC-Edit for it, but to rightclick on the icon and choose notepad (find Open With Notepad from the context menu which appears after the rightclick.

See the attachment; It contains a few examples with comment about very generally what can be done in there, but *always* keep on using notepad from now on, because the normal Edit function will kill your changes (the to be saved settings are way more rough in there).

Keep in mind that it is a play between the Music Server PC which controls (via RDC) the Audio PC and the tablet which in itself controls (RDC) the Music Server PC.
None should have scroll bars, ans none should have eggs for wheels. It all can easily be done, once you get the hang of it. ... I am just thinking ... Here is the part of concern of my Music Server PC (RDC to the Audio PC) :

screen mode id:i:1
use multimon:i:0
desktopwidth:i:1366
desktopheight:i:768
session bpp:i:16
winposstr:s:0,1,129,53,1425,859

The winposstr may do nothing (I forgot). The 1366x768 definitely is the size of my Surface (V2 IIRC). So set that part to what the Surface will be able to do.
Always keep the font size (Windows Monitor setting) at 100% everywhere.

You probably will end up with all too small to touch. Solve that with the Scaling functionality of XXHighEnd (set to 2.30 or so via de button near the bottom of the main screen.

I hope you can get it done ...
Peter

Peter,

I like my RDP to start in a maximised window, but I see you do not do that.  My screen resolution is 2736 x 1854.

It seems as though the problem is linked to the screen resolution on the tablet.  The recommended w10 text size for the Surface 6 Pro screen is 200%, not 100% as you recommend.  When I set it to 100% XXHE seems to work just fine and scales properly when it restarts after playing some music.  But now things are too small on the tablet and they are near impossible to read...think 2736 pixels in about 10" or screen, 300ppi or thereabouts...9pt text displays at about 4pt.  XXHE is fine, I just scaled it up, but normal everyday (not XXHE) stuff on the tablet is very small, such as the icons, text etc.

Is there a work-around for this?  Maybe in 2.11?

By the way, getting the screen right in XXHE makes me realise what I have been missing.

Regarding the scroll bars, is there a reason to get rid of them?  Are they removed by precise sizing of the XXHE window?  I'll look it up.

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Scrollbars are a waste of space. But if you are more happy with them, please go ahead.

I know the resolution is too high for a small laptop screen to be readable. I also honestly don't know who wants to buy that if at the same time the advice is to set the text to 200%. So Yes, that all is clear to me.
That things don't match now was to be expected (and you found out).
I don't know … maybe if you set the Music Server PC also to 200% ?

I do NOT have any good reason for having XXHighEnd full screen. However, any tablet is already fairly small for physical size, hence our thick fingers. So the larger XXHighEnd can be, the better it is for the physically more small screen.

Btw, I always have XXHighEnd not fully full screen because the XXOSK must be visible somewhere, so it can be selected if needed (by touch screen). Yours is set horizontally (so must go above or underneath), mine is square, so will go besides for a small piece (see below).

… And you can use the in the right-hand edge to remove (or set-back) the border from XXHighEnd (drag by means of grabbing empty space).

I must be missing something Peter...I still don't know how to remove the scrollbars.

I set the tablet and the MusicServer to 200% and XXHE reverted to "rogue" behaviour.  Looks like I will have to change the tablet display parameters depending on how it is being used.  XXHE = 100%.  Normal browsing/work = 200%.
