Title: Some MQA tracks play at low speed
Post by: arvind on March 17, 2021, 02:17:43 pm
Hi Peter,

There is another problem with  a few MQA tracks, some of them play at lower speed (seems like half speed). Out of the entire album a few tracks have this issue. However it’s not an issue with every MQA album.

This is not a recent problem, at first, I had noticed this a long way back, on Aqualung & Benefit albums, but I had just ignored it.

Best regards,

Arvind

I have a possibly related, but different issue. It's not related to Tidal/MQA, but with speed.

When I play songs from a playlist consisting of high-res and redbook tracks mixed, the next song play at double speed.

Not a mayor problem however.

Stanley

Hi Stanley,

It would be good to have an example of subsequent tracks that would copy the behavior; I have very such regularly mixed tracks in the playlist, but never run into the problem you describe. I surely can imagine it, though.

If you rather not take the effort, I am fine with that. But otherwise the example should be very literal, so indeed it would happen over here too.

Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Arvind,

Couldn't that be the same problem as described here :  Playback jumps to next track prematurely (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=4287.0) ?
The basis for that to be the same, should be an album which is 44.1 or 48 (not higher). Are those of this issue that ?

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

To give an example Gretchen Parlato-Flor MQA is 24/88.2, track no 7 plays at slow speed. All other tracks are ok.

Unfortunately the Jethro Tull MQA albums, mentioned earlier, have been deleted so I don’t know their details.

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Peter,

I tried to reproduce it with some random albums, but it works fine.

As soon as I encounter this behavior again I will report it.

Thanks.

Stanley

This album plays all tracks at correct speed for me.
MQA 24/88.2  bit rate 4233

Hi Peter,

Yesterday I compared 2 tracks: John Coltrane – My favorite things in 16-44 and in 24-192. I selected the tracks from the albums and dragged them in a playlist and pressed Play. The 16-44 played normal, but when I pressed Next, the 24-192 file plays at a high speed.

As said, it’s not a big problem, because I don’t do that very often this way, but I’m curious what is happening.

Regards,

Stanley

Thank you Stanley !

Pressing Next ... was this with Attended Playback ?

Peter

No Peter, it was UNattended. Pressing ALT-N.

Hi Stanley,

I have the hunch that this can be related to two the same track names (file names). Thus supposed that both are named

02 - My Favorite Things

(upper and lower case does not matter, and the file extension (WAV/FLAC) also doe not matter)

that things can go wrong.

Could that be the situation ?

Best regards,
Peter

Yes Peter, that's the situation.

And when I changed the first trackname/filename (by adding a "1" at the end of the title) then the next track plays at the correct speed.

Thanks Peter, it is good to know what caused it and it now is easy to solve it.

Regards,

Stanley

Thank you so much for your efforts, Stanley.
I recall this situation from quite long ago, and it is not easy to solve on my side. But I will put it on the ToDo list anyway.

Best regards,
Peter
