Title: Vista SP1 available
Post by: edward on March 18, 2008, 08:08:38 pm
Peter, it looks like Vista SP1 is available for download. I have heard rumours about audio sounding better with this release, but I don't want to be a guinea pig. Would you be willing to download it and give us your impressions.  ;)

I'd love to Edward, if it already were from preventing you all a mistake. But ... no time currently.
Working hard on the "preprocessing" thing (as well as your pops and things), and I don't think SP1 should preveil.

But within the week I should be able to.

Peter

I'm going for it.  I don't have anything but XXHE on the laptop.  If I have to, I'll reinstall Vista if it doesn't work well.

I ran that program posted here...   http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=349.0   ... Right before sp1 and just did remember now to do it again.  Before SP1 I was getting an occasional red spike and more frequent orange.  Now!  I get low greens and an occasionally orange.  SP1 Vista ... yea?!

Ah ! That saves me a download. In fact I knew that, but forgot about it. Indeed, en e.g. english version won't install upon a dutch (etc.).

Btw, what I hope most to be solved :

a. The kind of random behaviour at falling asleep, followed by a rather normal boot at wakeup;
b. The sometimes ridiculeous harddisk access without apparent reason (lsass but can be caused by other things as well (not that I know which));
c. The stupid 30 sec. wait time at creating / renaming directories (which actually is not true, because the actual job is done immediately). Btw, not everybody experiences this, and I too didn't have this for the first six months (never installed any patches).

I recommend you upgrade to sp1 whenever possible as this patch, really makes vista faster and they have fix alot of stuff. copying files from network shares is definitely improved. network seems smoother.. overall, Vista is smoother now.. This is what vista should of have been since the beginning...

Besides the network fix (which was longtime due!) I didnt notice any improvement on my two systems. The lower-end was updated 3 weeks ago when the sp1 was not on windowsupdate yet. The higher end machine today, but it's 64 bit so no xx for it.
