Title: Speed problem with 44/16 playback in U-8 version
Post by: LydMekk on March 28, 2008, 06:23:21 pm
Yihaa!  :)
The bass is FINALLY where it should be...the U8 version has the best bass resital, similar to the real old versions of XX IMO. It is NOT bloated but detailed and exact and seems much more in line with the level of other frequencies when XX play back material. A whole new level of emotional feedback from this version than the earlier ones.

Good work, Peter! Also see this thread in the SQ section:

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=459.0

But also a funny thing...seems to be governed by the DAC setting. When I'm playing back normal WAV 44/16 songs and try to set double and upsample to OFF, then output changes to a normal 44/16 but plays everything in double speed, kind of a Mickey Mouse thing going on...

The only way to get 44/16 to play back normally is to set the DAC to DAC is 16 bits 44 Khz. Then it play back normal songs in the usual speed. I usually use the DAC is 32bits 96Khz setting.

Actually I just was ahead of you (at solving it) : Re: Crack Detection ? (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=449.msg3284#msg3284).

In case you finished your tax (I didn't yet):
At the end of the songs the speed slows down and I get a few seconds of very low pitched voices.
It is at 44/16, attended and dac set to 192/32.
After a while the next song starts. (U-10 this is.)
Maybe not enough gas in the tank to finish the song?

But I hope it's gapless ! :swoon:

HUH ?
Can you please tell :

a. This is about subsequent tracks from the same album ?
b. Is this with Mem checked or not ?
c. Double etc. ?
d. With Unattended this doesn't happen ?

a. yes
b. no check
c. no double, nothing checked
d. I'll have to find out tonight, still at work now.

It happened on different albums, maybe partly badly ripped but not all of them.
Also it happens allways on one channel and the other one is silent.

Wow, sounds very good.
Now I can even sell my tapedeck, you even build in the dropouts.
In attended mode the dropout can last for 10 seconds, with the low pitched sound in one channel and after that maybe one second of normal sound before the end of the song.
In unattended mode the dropout lasts about a maximum of one second and then some 10 seconds of normal sound before the end.

Does this ring a bell or do you need more info?

You finished your tax already? Be shure to make a backup  ;)

I've been working for hours on it yesteday, with no solution yet. I think I can tell though that it must be "me" doing it. BUT :

It must be your soundcard/driver *showing* it.
For sure I don't do anything (wrong) with one channel only, but the pitch changing at the boundary of reading the next track is something that's prone to the means I setup the software. In a most "normal" case all should start to play at the wrong pitch (at that boundary), and it is my guess that in a not so normal way (which would be everybody but you and one channel :)) sound just stops.

Funny thing is that I found for 99,99999 % sure a bug in the compiler, which is 100% related to this subject (and the stopping and the clicks I think ... in fact the unexpected behaviour). Your observiation (pitch changing) is key to this, otherwise I think I never would have found this. Praise your soundcard !

GerardA,

Quote

Well, I must say, I can copy that behaviour. This happens with my beautiful attempt to play in the 16 bit domain, while actually the DAC is more than 16 bits. Is that so strange ? no, I don't think so. It would even be normal.

Must be me afterall. But how ? out of all I did this to 100% leave the bits alone as a special case (you actually ask for padding, but since the Volume is at -0dB that would be stupid).
Sorry I accused your soundcard.

My low pitch is through the right channel, the left channel being silent.

Btw, I now recognized that SeVeReD most probably has this too ("it's trying to catch up" or similar he said; it indeed looks a bit like that).

:innocent:

:yahoo:

GerardA, thank you *very* much for your attention and reporting. I know it didn't look like much, but I was able to solve everything with it.

Now I must test some 100 combinations if they all play, and then I will put up a new version.
Again, a big thanks.
Peter
