Title: Unable to activate new computer
Post by: glynnw on November 18, 2008, 01:31:16 am
Hi Peter - Just fired up my new dedicated to music only PC and tried to activate XXHighEnd using my code but it failed.  I got a message to copy down some numbers (which I did) but I don't think I should list them on the forum since one of them is obviously my activation code.  FYI, I intend to use this machine for playback only, leaving it unconnected to the internet once it is set up, and using the other PC to connect to XXHighEnd for the purpose of downloading new versions - then move them to dedicated unit with a memory stick.

Thanks,
Glynn

This type of fastidiousness sounds like someone I can relate to.  Have you followed Peter's guide to shut off everything, UAC and the like, tweak the OS?

Not yet - just had new PC for a few hours.  Installed XXHighEnd and 1 music album to make sure all was well.  Currently copying music files to new PC which will continue after I go to sleep in an hour or so - hopefully it will be all done in AM.  Tomorrow I hope to get XXHighEnd fully functional and do some critical listening.  Then will start tweaking PC.  I really know very little about all this, so a steep learning curve.  I am pleased with how quiet the unit is - did a lot of research prior to ordering it.  Any hints from people on further tweaking always appreciated.  Will be using Scott Nixon UFO-jfet USB DAC.

Hi Glynn,

We seem to be out of luck a bit;

Just sent you an email (two attempts) but now I am rejected as being spam by your side somewhere. The things seems mutual. :(
So, sent you a PM by means of the forum again.

Sorry for the inconvenience ...

Peter

Hi Peter - I just sent you an email with the info you requested in your last email. I put the entire message in quotes, but I am not sure if it will make it past your spam filter or not.

Thanks,
Glynn Wilson

I am embarrassed. Prior to this I was copying the long number by hand from the new computer and then keying it into the email I sent you.  In so doing I made an error (for the second time) and the last activation code you sent failed to work.  So I decided to do it right this time, connected the new pc to the internet, created an email address for it, machine copied the long number, sent it to myself and compared it to the number I had hand copied yesterday, thus discovering my latest error.  I have sent you yet another email and this time the long number has to be correct - it was all copied by the computer and my feeble brain was left out of the process.  If you will please send me 1 more new activation number, it should work.

my apologies,
Glynn Wilson

Hey Glynn,

It is really no problem. Seriously, it is not.
But for a next time ... what about copying the file to an usb stick, transport that to the internet connected PC, and email it from there.

Some people have just very bad luck, which in this case is also related to you and me both being treated as spam, this just being an additional handicap.
So, very bad luck, but extra lucky in love !

Anyway, sent you a PM again.

Now, you are a worldrecord holder in attempts by now, so it is really not necessary to let have it fail once again.
Of course this time *I* can have a mistake ... :blob8:

Wish you all the luck on all sides !
Peter
