have version 0,9x-7 with q 4/17/17/0/0 engine 3 no core appoint Player prio low Thread prio realtime attended
taking signal from asus p5k-e motherboard of musicserver which has its own dedicated spdif hd audio rca output
connected to spdif input of Buffalo 9008.plays just fine on redbook wav files but refuses to play hi rez files  bought from us
message as follows when hitting play:
INVALIDARG
2/24/96000/384000/6
device cannot play
enigine 3 did not start within the expected time
what do I do wrong?

That 384000 is wrong. I can't think of anything else than that this is my fault, but then why don't I have the problem myself ??
Is your DAC set at 24/192000 (and the "Needs 32 bits" ticked) ?

If so, I don't have a better idea than to send me such a file please ...

Just in case, please show the results of the DAC Test as well (not the Shared option).

But Leif, the file to (dummy) play must be a normal 16/44.1 file !

If you can't get it to work never mind; when I have the example file I can pick it up from there.

now I am at work but this is how it is right now:
I performed the test and it says only up to redbook std ?
I take signal from ASUS P5K-E mainboard spdif output which says soundmax hd audio in sound devices working properly and it does on redbook files(sounds ok on my workshop rig)
into spdif input on Buffalo 9008 24/192 dac
a funny thing is also that the lock led on the Buffalo board goes out when I perform the xx dac test?
weird   is there any more settings to be done on the pc?  BIOS says hd audio enabled

I came to think of one setting under sound devices:
properties:

3 tests are presented on dts/dolby or wma
and 3 test on
samplefreq  44 / 96 / 192

what to check and what NOT to check?

Pwew, that looks a kind of "dangerous" (to the sense of : can it be the DAC maybe ? -> my Buffalo just works).
But I really think it is just my fault (but how ?).


Those do nothing for Exclusive Mode (which is what we are using).

Of course I'm implying that it is about the file(s) itself, but I wouldn't know what other. Again, the data you showed is wrong, but it is an indirect calculation I do from data in the file. So, I do something wrong, but I need the file to know/test what. That is, here 24/96 just work.

Example : it could be 16/96 files ... (was it a special offer ? hahaha)

It plays at PEDALS place on the Eximus player

with dac set to 16/192 it plays the hi rez files
the info on the track says 2/24/96

had to uninstall the soundmax software from ad to make it work
THEN I was allowed to set rates etc in the sound devices:see attachments
why i don´t get 24/192 in test I don´t know!

Well Leif, this doesn't make much sense to me. So as I said, the file could be 16/96 (strange in the first place), but your DAC test shows in fact similar. Please note that XXHighend is able to play 24/96 files onto a 16/96 DAC, which seems just what you have been doing / setting now.

The first time that I see a "HD Audio device" properly working still has to come. But this one seems to beat all !
If you want you can still send me such a file, but as you said, it plays on Pedals system, so most probably the file is allright. However, I still wonder why XX tells you that the "384000" is not supported, while that is just the one which *is* supported (compare your earlier post with the DAC test and this number). So, I still think I do something wrong ...

Nevertheless this all makes no sense to me. :sorry:

BTW: The music files are downloaded/purchased from Blue Coast Records, a 24/96 sampler album with GREAT, GREAT sound. A mix of small scale blues with very good performers in the tradition of Muddy Waters/Folk Singer. The best SQ I have heard from this kind of music. Highly recomended!

I disagree! It is true that "audiophile releases" with unknown artists often sounds boring, but this album is great musicianship. IF you happen to like simple rural blues. But, ok, let's be honest, I wouldn't spend $40 for this 12 track album, if it wasn't because of the 24/96 SQ   :soundsgood:
I truly enjoyed this album, and will play it again, from time to time.

Audio Player : Foobar 2000 with WASAPI

               From system above, I could play all audio file I have

               With XXHighEnd, I could play all 16bit@44.1 file with #3 engine .. but couldnt for 24bit@96kHz file

Well, let me tell you first that all looks the most thorough as can be, and you did/tried all very well. Hats off, also for your presented analysis !

(btw note the Shared Mode test is unofficial, and also unreliable, because although I stuffed it in for helping me a little in these kind of situations, it wasn't finished at the time (of this version)).

I never saw combintations like this, and I do *not* blame W7 for it. Could be, but I don't think so. It merely will be the audio device containing properties I do not anticipate upon sufficiently. Now, I know already that all these "HD Audio" devices can't be dealt with properly, and although this will be part of the base problem, this is just a new one I never saw before.

Coincidentally right now I am working on similar problems for a few days already (not specifically hi-rez related), and I guess I only quit that when I solved it. So far I don't see the solutions (read : I can't see what is wrong, but it still does not work), and exactly like in your case - in Foobar it works. The audio device not working I have at hand here, as I have at hand PCs with the HD Audio devices causing problems (as said, not the same HD Audio as yours). I guess when I found what's wrong with that, I will have solved your problem too. It is the only thing to do anyway, because I don't have such a device here.

I will let you know when I have some results, ok ?

Allright, per pure coincidence of the timing of your post, this just have been solved (well, I said I was working on it :)).

The coincidence is merely about the fact that this problem has been there right from the beginning, and now at last I found the culprit.
Please keep in mind : whether it works for your device just the same has to be awaitened, but I'm confident it will.

It will be in the next version (0.9y), which is hopefully there within two weeks.

Yes ... although the Benchmark must be tested by someone first, in order to be sure.
