Title: Minor bugs and user interface improvements
Post by: Telstar on June 04, 2009, 09:28:57 pm
The critters first:

-Random disappearing of the windows ribbon in the status bar (about 20% of times)
-occasional "track not found error"
-occasional crash (xxhighend stopped working - while engine3 still plays music)
-after SP2 is more likely that some services crash, such as windows host. this especially on the slower computer with vista x32

UI improvements
- make the tree longer on the left in the library view. With scrollbars like everything else. i have 1920x1200 resolution!
- the button labeled "library" that is used to add files to the playlist should be named "open" or "add files". It is confusing with the library tab
- undemo tab should go away in the registered version

Thats all folks

Having all of these several times,

And most agree with the UI improvements.

And have to add something:

As shown in the picture,
When choosing an album with the Library button on the left corner (what should called "Add Files"),
And go back to select another album the left arrow is blanked(so can't go back)
Have to start @ beginning of tree again.

thnx

Telstar,

-Random disappearing of the windows ribbon in the status bar (about 20% of times)

Please help at finding out when. I never play Attended (which is what you must be doing here, right ?), and I can't find the time to test a thing like this. :sorry:

Quote
-occasional "track not found error"

Should be about "elbow on keyboards" manipulation (I wasn't up to that yet :)), or something which is repeatable. I never have this, so please try to qualify this error (screen copy would be best).

-occasional crash (xxhighend stopped working - while engine3 still plays music)

Here too, I don't have the time to wait for this to happen. A screen copy won't help I think, but recognizing when it happens of course does.

Quote
-after SP2 is more likely that some services crash, such as windows host. this especially on the slower computer with vista x32

Yes, I recognize this already from SP1 ! It should imply that more/other services are active - or require more resources than before. I did not see which ones.
It also can be that the before applied tweaks (like from my thread "how I made my Vista virtually dead" (similar)) have been undone by the upgrade ?
Anyway keep in mind : when this happens, this is a good thing, unless afterwards you can't do something anymore of course.

You said this before, but I can't get this. Especially when you have such a wide screen you can drag that part to the right (and thus bottom) and it will grow in heighth. Please show me a screen copy of what you think is achieveable, maybe then I can show you what to do, *or* it shows me what I should do. :)

Agreed.

Quote

No, I'm sorry but I won't do that. You *are* right though !!

Thanks !

What are your plans with this open space here.
You could build a house on that.
Can It be used to stredge the music tree.
Not being used anyway.

Being a litttle primitive on the drawing, sorry

I hope that I am not the only one.
Because it always has bin this way.
On vista ,W7, clean install.

Having a lot of these lately.
Some tracks after being played in foobar, then again opening them in xx and then they suddenly DO play.

But Telstar, take out these "maybe corrupted files" and convert flac to wav again,
You will see some of these files are really corrupted.

Some of these errors happened to my flac's "overnight"
They played fine last week and now they are corrupted ????????
Without reason.

I'll hope nothing. On an 8" LCD screen i don't have this open space. Make yor Library pictures smaller to reduce this open space. I don't have the right pane!

Oke, thnx for pointing out.
Did not think of that.
Hmmmm

Its not that important you know.
But like your setup with a small screen.
Think Peter's has already future plans for small GUI for xx on small display.

I was hoping the empty space can be used too for my big screen.
The selection of the music to play is really awkward now, and my only wish for improvement.
(Besides the option to not show the message all the time if you turn of crack-detection)

Peter,

All these errors are random. I cannot find a cause for them.
What I can tell you is this:

1) NOT optimized machine, therefore some of the services that crash you have disabled them.
2) Vista x32 or x64 with SP2.

I will be using W7 RC on the dedicated pc and with services and stuff disabled. We shall see then if anything still crash. I will try to find out more. But if everything is random, debugging does not belong to me.
I have worked with some software houses and they have several test computers with different configuration and software to test and debug.
I know it is not high priority, but bear in mind that random crashes (not talking about services here) are unacceptable in a 1.0 release.

About the tree and the space, see audiodidakt reply, his picture is maybe clearer than the one I sent you a couple months ago :)
The tree should continue DOWN over that empty space, as long as the window height goes.

No, I'm sorry but I won't do that. You *are* right though !!

You can change something minor in that tab maybe easier. like thanks for registering in the place to enter the code.

The tree window can just be as long as the main xxhe window, like the gallery.
This way there is no problem for who has small or big screen size.

just started using XXHE on pc with quad core, 4gb memory, sata drives, and vista ultimate with sp2 into USB tascam US144.

Problems so far:

1.windows button on task bar disappears when XXHE starts but is replaced with black triangle and appears to function normally.
2. program terminates after awhile and closes completely (windows buttom comes back) does this consistently

Any way I can help with better diagnostics for you?

dope:

there is a demo mode that only plays 6+ minutes??? was NOT expecting this.

Hi,

1. Does this happen at normal Attended Playback ? (Unattended checkbox on the main form unticked)

2. Yes, this is the restriction for the Demo Mode. Btw, this is in between 6 and 60 minutes. Around 30 minutes average. Restart and have another go, as much and as long as you want.

Regards,
Peter

To me it does ;)

Since I don't have this myself *and* this will be about strange Start Button behavior (which is just a known thing in the Vista programming environment) I could only apply a theoretical solution which most probably helps, but which I can't check myself. Please report back after trying the upcoming version. But :

To me this looks like when Unattended Playback is applied and Stop Services is ticked, the problem may be the same when XXHighEnd is brought up and the services are restored. The situation will be a little different though and I can't predict what will happen.
So for the next version, please keep in mind that there may be a difference between XXHighEnd starting while the Start Button (and Taskbar) is already there, and when it is not there. The first should be OK, while the second most probably behaves the same as you see now.
Anyway, please report back at the time of the new version.

Peter

Have to start @ beginning of tree again.

(see picture : http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=852.msg6446#msg6446)

But maybe you don't know how it works ? :)

1. The back button is to go back to where you were before in this session (of Explorer);
2. Look below, and where my mouse arrow points at. Click that, and you will traverse up the tree (see second picture).

... and note that after the second picture, if I'd cick the back button, I'll go back to the first picture ...

Ok ok ok ...

Niiice finally :)
Now just remame that library as "add files".

Another thing that can be useful, although you may twitch your nose is to allow for external DSP or (even better) VST plugins. This is not the same thing as having a convolution to load filters (ie. XO), but it is very helpful to do a little equalization or to exclude certain bandwidths for testing. Yes, it wont be bit-perfect anymore, but in certain cases will sound better ;)
