Title: The cost of XX
Post by: Chris V on June 25, 2007, 11:42:20 am
Hi Peter

How don't know whether you researched the value of your software or based it on a gut reaction, but I believe the price is just about perfectly pitched.

You will always pick up the hardened HiFi nuts like us at elevated prices, but to get universal acceptance across a broad range of people that listen to music on their PCs the price becomes more of an issue.

I think when eventually you roll this out to the World that you will do extremely well. I sincerely hope so :friends: :friends: :drinks: :drinks:

I really hope so Chris. And whether "I will do extremely well" ... hmm ... I merely hope the pllayer will perform extremely well. Let's not forget, what you currently perceive from Engine#3 is just the beginnings of it (this, while #1 and #2 can hardly get better, except for #2 Upsampling maybe). So my job is just about to begin. :secret:

As a fully paid up member of the "XX Club" (simplicity itself) I'd like to echo the comments of Chris in his post above, excellent job!
Happy Jack

When I first jumped into XXHE I thought, man, $100 US is rather steep for something still in beta.  I thought that after even hearing the player and buying it.  But now, now that I've seen how hard Peter works at this and the time he's committing and the future he's proposing, (and really, after more listening and amazement at the sound quality)... seems cheap now.  Best money (and probably the least amt of money) I've spent in audio.  Thanks again and again PeterSt, Dave

If you read the background story of this Memory Player a lot of it may appear very familiar to the visitors of this site. But it is definitely in a different price range.

Hi Leo,

I read it all, and I must say that at least half of it I don't understand. Oh, I understand the marketing story for a $10,000 PC including a DAC and an amp, but it's about there where my understanding stops.

The stories are nice though, but I am afraid they were written 2 years or so too soon. I mean, 2 years ago probably many people would have bought the stories, but today ? today the story should be different.
It seems that what is written in there is not about knowledge but merely about fuzzyness "we" dig (or dug). Just too many things in there prove that what they say cannot be true (not according to my judgement anyway), like a 32 bit DAC which can be a delta-sigma only (IMHO not good at all) and opposed to that "no digital volume because we'd loose bits". Oh, but I can tell you that with 32 bits that's perfectly allowed *and* far better than an analogue volume.

When I see the outlays of contegeous memory etc. that makes me laugh a bit. Maybe it's true, but without the explanation how things go from there to the DAC, it's not.

But hey, did I tell what I am doing ? nope ...
No room for a commercial story in 72 euros ... hahaha.

I thought that 72 EUR was a little steep, but that was before I listened to the product! Guess we are too used to 39,90USD prices for software on the web... Cough... :)

After listening to the product (test version) and comparing it to several other programs it was clear that SQ from the XXHighEnd player is miles ahead from the crowd and so it must be considered a bargain. I bought a license with a smile!

The player really got the best out playback from my HighEnd HTPC. Highly recommended!
