Title: XXHighEnd falls out of memory
Post by: fmanheck on November 05, 2009, 02:46:33 am
This IS Fred's Son In Law.  :)

When we load the app and select a track and hit play, it immediately crashes.  It just disappears.  Any experience with this?

Also, how do I make the "does not support 8.3 Short Names error message go away?

We also see "Music Root (settings) must be a folder warning.  I've tried the \\teraserver\library\ syntax and mapping to M:\ syntax.  Any other ideas?

Thanks!!!

Hi Frank,

On the Music Root question, I would say that this should solve itself kind of automatically by meand of the small "..." button right besides the "Music Root" text box (Settings Area). So, whatever you select via that button should be ok ...
Let me know what happens with this.

The 8.3 Dos Name thing is in here somewhere, and I must look it up. Bit of a pitty you're dealing with that there. It is rare, in fact explicitly shut off, and takes some effort to switch back to it. I'll come back on this.

About Play-Crash ... probably something you changed somewhere ? I mean, it was OK before ? On this one, please fill out the chain you are using in your signature (you can take mine as an example, but evereybody's is allright) so I know a little what we are talking about. Next try to describe as exact as possible what you do, from starting XXHighEnd to when it happens. There will be an error message at some stage. Please describe them as literal as possible, or better attach a screen copy of them.

So far for now ...
Peter

PS: For a next time, please try to keep one issue per topic. Now there's three ... thanks !

I have created a little topic for this : How to restore Short Dos 8.3 names (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=982.0).

Sorry, it is no different ...

I'll review the other two issues and then dedicate this thread to the subject matter in the subject line.

I got the 8.3 message to disappear following instructions regarding enabling 8.3 in Vista by editing the registry and running the fsutil command.  The KB article you mention does not apply to Vista.

Music root has been selected using the methond mentioned and image of settings is attached and we still see the must be a folder message.

On to the real issue.
Reboot System (just to start clean)
Double Click Desktop Icon to load XXHighEnd.
Leave selected track or select a new one.
Hit Play.

XXHighEnd UI disappears from the screen.  No error message presented and none in the application log on the machine either.
The music will begin playing.
Relaunch XXHighEnd UI by double-clicking the icon again.
Music is still palying.
The track placement slider at the bottom is not moving and is set at the beginning of the track.
I can now successfully pause the track and it will stop playing and the UI stays up.  When I restart the play it starts wherever the pointer is at the bottom of the screen (the beginning of the track by default but I can slide the slider to later in the track and it will start playing there) but the UI Disappears as above.  I can relaunch and repeat.

BTW, I'll go ahead and throw fred under the bus on the one topic per thread issue.  That's what I said, but he thought it might be related.

Hey Fred,

Just Untick "Unattended", in your settings, see your own pic.

Then explain your other problems (not sure if I understand yours)

 :)

Btw: try to to make a signature, with your gear, specs and such, look at mine or others on the bottum of each post

Hi there Frank - I'll try to pickup on a few things :

Yes, but as your screencopy indicates, you did not select a "folder" as such. It is just the root of the drive I see there (M:\). So, this must be something like M:\Music\

on the other hand ...

I've tried the \\teraserver\library\ syntax

it well may be that this doesn't work ! So, can you please confirm that indeed this does not work, while something like M:\Music\ *does* work for you ?

Audiodidakt already told it, but it may be too unexpected to you there : this is intended ! Thus, what you call a "crash" (I think you do as per the first post) is meant to create better sound. And indeed, when you don't want this, untick Unattended, and the UI will stay, the time cursor will move, and all will look more normal to you. But for best SQ it till is intended.

I am not sure you are right on this one, BUT remember, I never did this myself. Others did though, and it sure helped.
BUT
I don't see you writing about the necessary copying, and without that it won't do a thing, except for the message to disappear. NOT GOOD !
You will be having all kind anomalies in this inconsistent situation (I'm fairly sure).
But if you are sure you solved it, please let us know how !

And oh, no need to throw anyone under a bus, it was just for the next time. :)

Let me know what happens !
