1051  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Power supply filter for computers on: February 02, 2012, 04:57:32 pm
Jim Smith, the author of "Get Better Sound" a book and DVDs that I recommend to read because it has a lot of tips, exactly 202 tips, for installing and voicing the system and room (hey Scroobius, maybe there you could find the solution to your L shape room!) send by email new tips in what he calls "Quarter Notes" to the ones who bought his book. In the last one, Vol. 3 #2, he talks about a little filter that, in his opinion, helps to reduce RF contamination from the computer to the digital devices connected to the system.
This is his opinion about it:
"It’s a simple (but excellently engineered) power supply filter for computers. It was originally designed to prevent grunge from infecting the performance of ham radio stations.
I got it, put it on another circuit, and was amazed to hear my system improve so much. When things sound louder, even voices, that’s usually a sure sign that you just reduced background noise. Reduce background noise and you increase the effect of musical dynamics. Increase musical dynamics and increase your musical involvement."

The price: $106

Here is the link to the mentioned filter: http://arraysolutions.com/Products/nqnaclinefilter.htm

If there is any one that knows such a device please let us know.

1052  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 SQ to next level possible ? on: January 21, 2012, 02:01:21 pm
I have i5 660 processor, and if I specify SFS of 200 I have sometimes breakes in music. If I specify 430 I have 1-3 seconds brakes between tracks. I specified 120 and now is OK. I see you and most of NOS1 guys have SFS 400 . Should I upgrade to better processor ?
Jarek

Hi Jarek,

Iīm testing your 24/192 way of ripping and although I donīt have yet any conclusion about sound I experienced the same breaks in music at SFS430, not in between tracks but in the tracks, not always but once in a while.
If I change to SFS120 then there is not breaks but the sound changes and itīs not so smooth as it is at SFS430.

Anyway, as I have an i7, 6 cores processor with hyperthreading activated and XX seeing 12 cores (6 + 6) and have the same promblem as you I donīt think that the problem is in your processor, that should be fast enough. Maybe it is in the dBpoweramp software when it is upsampling to 24/192.

Sorry, it is 430.

Thanks, Juan

Juan,
If you feel your NOS1 is still breaking in, it should be about the USB part. In that case bring up the Control Panel before you go to sleep. That should speed it up.

Yes, I do, I leave the Panel turned on overnight and I still feel improvements in sound from time to time. About if it sounds better after 30 minutes or not I really donīt know...

Placebo?

Hmm ... I just tried to explain to you that this is only self protection. It doesn't do a thing.

"DAC Needs" sure will make a physical difference, but I don't think it can operate like that (although I have in mind that it can with some setting). Don't try without preamp !!!

"DAC needs" is always in 32bits, I donīt use any preamp at all and Iīm aware of it.

1055  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 SQ to next level possible ? on: January 19, 2012, 11:45:29 am
Hi Juan,
The NOS1 can process 24/768, so that is what it should be set to (DAC Is). What you use of that is up to you (that rate or lower).

What Jarek by accident allows is an input file of 32 bits, and while the DAC will process it (but will chop off 8 bits), XXHighEnd does not support it. So it can't harm anyway. But it would be correct to say that Jarek defined the NOS1 a little wrongish.

What I can say so far is that setting 32/768 in DAC Is doesnīt sound  worse than setting it at 24/768. Does it sound  better?, I donīt know...it couldnīt be possible but Iīm not sure. Placebo?

Thank you Peter, now Iīm testing what Jarek said but itīs hard mostly because I think that my Nos1 USB is still breaking in and the changes I feel could be just a matter of this process.

Hi Peter,

I posted a question for Jarek in the forum and I can see it, maybe you canīt. It is:

Rip your favorite CD by using dbPoweramp to Wave and specify format target as 24/192. Play it with NOS1 USB and 32/768kHz / ARC prediction.
Jarek

Hi Jarek, I donīt understand well why you say that you play it at 32/768kHz but in your settings you have 24/768kHz.

What should be the panel setting for Sample Rate, 352.000kHz or 384.000kHz?.

Regards, Juan

Yes I have the 32 bits clicked in At>16bits the DAC needs, but what I ask is: what is the correct dac setting in XX (DAC Settings) 24bits 768.0KHz or 32bits 768.0KHz?.
I always used 24bits 768kHz and fx x 16 Arc Predict but if I understand well Jarek is using 32bits 768kHz (in XX DAC Settings).

Also what must be the Panel Sample Rate 352.000kHz or 384.000kHz?

Thanks, Juan

Hi Peter,

As Iīm ripping now my cds with different settings and while I wait for Jarek answer, could you tell me please what Panel setting for Sample Rate should be used, 352.000kHz or 384.000kHz? and  if we are ripping at 24/192 which one must be the XX setting, 24/768kHz or 32/768kHz?

Thanks, Juan

Ok, I donīt want to go out of the topic but let me expand it further. Letīs see my personal situation while Iīm listening music, maybe it is similar to some others.

- I have turned on my laptop most of the time, it can be connected via cable or Wi-Fi but usually I have it Wi-Fi connected.

- I have my iPhone connected all the time, I can have it with 3G but I have it most of the time with Wi-Fi.

- The music PC is connected to Internet with cable when I use the partition where dBpoweramp or EAC and Accuraterip are used. The partition where XXHighEnd resides is not connected to Internet at all. So when Iīm listening music the music PC is not connected to Internet, this PC has not Wi-Fi anyway.

Do you think that the laptop and the iPhone connected via Wi-Fi to the router are affecting the music PC?

But the necessary hardware is here now, so let's try a few things ...

Great!, will be nice to have that remote but are you thinking also in a way to control the computer while we are out of home? or to connect the members on this forum in a way that we can see otherīs computer the way Team Viewer does?.

1061  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Software for Remote Control on: January 06, 2012, 11:30:52 am
Even in case that this software couldnīt be used as remote control due to wi-fi issues, improper 3G configuration or because of a majority of services that need to be on, could be of interest to use it as a net to look and correct directly the problems between XXHighEnd users.

Would be fine however, if someone could test if 3G is working fine with XXHighEnd with this software. I guess that, as pedal said, if XXHigEnd can be controlled from any part of the world from his phone it implies that 3G is working fine, in such a case there is no wi-fi affecting a music computer so far away. If to work correctly needs other services running on all the time itīs other important issue, of course.

Hi Peter, Iīve been reading about software for remote control and found this software called Team Viewer: http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

Maybe it could be of some utility to control XXHighEnd from other/s computer, an iPhone/iPad or any other android phone or tablet.

These are the advantages:

- As I said you can control remotely your music PC from any other of your computer, tablet or phone via internet.

- Can be used with 3G

- Would allow to be connected to a net where anyone in the net could provide direct support to each other. So i.e. Peter could see directly in my music computer where are my log files  Wink. Or could see if my XXHighEnd configuration is the correct one.

- It is free for private use

Switch logging on in advance (like today).

Sorry, I donīt understand what you mean
1065  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Problem with the second track on: January 05, 2012, 04:48:16 pm
Thanks Peter. Well, today I played around 10 albums and everything was fine. I havenīt mixed different versions for sure because Iīm using the last one since it appeared but I overwrote a couple of times this last version and installed the drivers three or four times when I had to reboot, unplug, etc the computer due to the problems I mentioned with the missing hdd in the bios.

If it happens again Iīll look for those log files (although I did it before once, now I donīt remember where they are, Iīll ask in such a case).
