1142  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: I say NO to SSD for music playback. on: October 03, 2011, 04:24:35 pm

can anyone recommend a low-capacity (100GB is enough), ultra-fast and ultra-quite HDD?
Mani.

Hi Mani

The fastest HDD I know with around 100GB is the Hitachi Ultrastar C15K147 at 15.000rpm with 147GB and it looks quite silent. See Specifications: http://www.hitachigst.com/internal-drives/enterprise/ultrastar/ultrastar-c15k147

There are other Hitachi models and WD Velociraptor like the one I use at 10.000rpm and 300GB. To tell you the truth I hear more the air conditioning in my music room than the Velociraptor it self. Of course the fans in the case are a little noisier also than the HDD. But neither the air conditioning nor the fans in the case bother me too much, they are quite silent and the music is great. Iīve never tried SSD though.

Here Iīve found a link for you in case youīre interested on buying it: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/147-gb-hitachi-0b23723-ultrastar-c15k147-sas-6gb-s-15000rpm-64mb-cache-3-ms

1143  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 USB vs Berkeley Alpha + Lynx AES16 on: September 26, 2011, 09:03:41 am
Hi praphan,

Great review even for the ones who donīt own a Berkeley dac but are in waiting list for the NOS1 USB.
This review gives us a very good idea about the NOS1 USB qualities.

Thank you,
Juan
1144  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 in Saturn Black finish on: September 25, 2011, 03:52:02 pm

I am happy to anounce that the NOS1 is now available by standard in a finish we have named "Saturn Black". It adds 70 euro (ex VAT) to the standard price.

This finish feels soft but is strong powercoat. It exhibits small metallic particals and sure is recommended over the blue original color, for those who think blue doesn't fit their room colors.

Peter

Could you put a picture, please?. What would be the price for the ones who are going for the NOS1 USB upgrade?

Thanks, Juan
1145  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Z0.9-6 on: September 23, 2011, 10:47:44 am
This morning Iīve tried the boleary settings and Iīm amazed, just a little difference with his settings, my Q1 must be 7 to maintain 96 instead of his Q1,6. The sound is fantastic with an improvement over my settings in soundstage, smoothness and bass precision. Iīll keep listening but if continues to sound as good as now Iīll change my signature. Thanks boleary!!

No "Interrupt out of order" messages ?

Please apply Alt-U (or -D) during Unattended, and one minute after this was applied and nothing happened, grab the log files (XX, X3, X3PB) and post them please.
Monitor can be left On.

Thanks !
Peter

- No messages at all

- Where are the XX, X3 and X3PB files?. Sorry, but I canīt find them.

Additionally : Is this Alt-U etc. on the keyboard, or via an actual remote ?

And, make the "XX log file" the last two (most new) of them !

So, that will be 2x XX, 1x X3 and 1x X3PB.

- The commands are on the keyboard

- Again I donīt know how to find the "XX log file".

Thanks, Juan
1149  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Remote command for Volume Up and Down doesnīt work on: September 18, 2011, 12:17:58 pm
Hi Peter,

Remote command for volume up and down (Alt+U and Alt+D) doesnīt work using Unattended,  Monitor Off and Minimize OS. To use the remote command I have to start XXHighEnd.
The other remote commands seems to work properly.

1150  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHighendModel 0.9z-6 on: September 12, 2011, 07:02:12 pm
Hi Juan, if/when you get your NOS1 upgraded to async-USB (and I recommend that you do), I'll just remind you that the optimum settings are:
- KS Adaptive
- device buffer 4096
- Q1=30

I know this doesn't affect you yet, but it might do the future...

Mani.

Hi Mani

Thanks a lot for your advise, I keep it! Youīre really lucky that are enjoying the NOS1 USB already.

Iīm in the waiting list for the upgrade, btw: Hey Peter! when is my turn?  clapping

I raised the Q1 from 5 to 10 and feel itīs still better.

Working flawlessly

Congratulations Peter!

Thanks,

Juan

1152  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A GOOD MONITOR on: September 10, 2011, 09:47:25 pm
Juan,

With 0.9z-6 you can order to shut off the monitor during playback. Regardless OS activities for sending out data to a monitor, this means that the video card will electrically do less (up to nothing, but this depends).

Peter

I usually turn off the monitor after selecting the tracks Iīm going to listen, I really canīt tell if that has any influence in the sound. I just do it in an instinctive way thinking that as less work for OS the better for the sound

But:

- If I have the mouse and keyboard connected to an USB port in the monitor, how can I bring XXHighEnd alive, in case I want to, if the monitor is shut off?.

- If I have the mouse and keyboard connected to an USB port in the mb, would this have any influence on the NOS1 USB?. Are the different USB ports in the mb totally independent from each other?.

Sadly, no Praphan. But 0.9z-6 will be up soon. All will be in the Relase Notes.

Peter

Thanks Praphan but...letīs wait to see whatīs going on.

Iīll wait to see it before I buy a new monitor.

What would be the best way to connect the monitor to the PC looking for the less interaction possible with XXHighEnd and the new NOS1 USB?

Using 0.9z-6 maybe. With that, the monitor will be off anyway.
Well, if you want.

Happy

Peter

Hi Peter, I donīt understand that well, please explain it a little further. Thanks

Juan

Peter, could you explain it a little further please?.

I know also that with the NOS1 USB we wonīt need the monitor because of the screen in the Dac. But even in such a case a monitor near the listening place could be more comfortable.

Gerard, thanks for your recommendation, your monitor looks very interesting but Iīd like one in a vertical position near the listening place, I canīt find your model though. Could the multi-touch technology have some inconvenience in relation to XXHighEnd /Nos1 USB?.
