So 8 (cores) is already a big leap. I use it now and I love it.
12 ? better. I will love it more.

24 ? crazy. And too constraining on everything.

This is a good motherboard to fulfill the 12 cores needs. Yes, it´s LGA 1.366 but....it can deal with i7 or i7 Extreme and that means 4 or 6 cores. It has PCIe x1 that´s needed to connect the NOS1 (not all the top mb has it). Besides it manages very well the heat. ATX Form Factor.
Altghough not the fastest mb it´s fast enough and has exceptional stability, which is very important for overclocking, due to the high end transistors and capacitors.

Another finding: THUNDERBOLT

We´ll use it some day to connect our PC to the NOS1?.

I thought about the Velociraptor 10.000rpm but I wanted a silent pc as much as possible and the 10.000rpm are more noisy than the 7.200rpm. Still could be an alternative to consider. As I can see in the forum there are different opinions about where the OS and XXHigEnd should be installed  and it seems to me that nothing is still definitive. So maybe I´ll get also a Velociraptor in the next future depending on the experiences of other people.

Peter or someone else asked about the different models:

2 juanpmar :
what about ASUS P7Q57-M DO
it has graphics inside so you will not need separate videocard  .....i think it may help for better cooling inside the case and less power consumption

An independent Graphic Card gives me more chance for future and now unknown possibilities. I have enough power with a 750w power supply and I thing there isn´t problem to cool it with the three 180mm fans inside the case.

The use of the SSD will be for different posibilities:

1- To put there the OS
2- To put there the OS and the XXHighEnd
3- To put there just the Galleries

2 juanpmar :
And I also want to ask what processor is preferable for building an audio pc .......should it be the dual core or the quad core of the same price range?
Anyone?

I think quad core is better. Just now I´m finishing the configuration of my new dedicated computer to play with the Phasure NOS1 dac. I´ve tried to follow the Peter´s computer as a guide as much as possible. I´d appreciate any sudgestion before I order it next week:

Thanks Sergero and Peter, man I´m lost with this issues of PC configuration... wacko Yes, it´s a good idea to use the wirless keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor, if Peter doesn´t say don´t do that again
Sergero do you have the monitor connected to the pc with both the USB and HDMI cables?

Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor connection

Just the notice that either can have a cable length of 10 meters (also VGA but use a better cable). So, generally it won't be a problem to have the PC near the stereo or in a (more silencing) cabinet somewhere, while you control all from this 10 meters distance.
Also notice that keyboard and mouse can have 15 meters easily (just use extension cables), while with VGA I don't know. But, for VGA extension solutions exist over CAT5 and in the end you'll always get were you want.

Could someone tell me if the Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor connection must be made with a cable or could be made wireless?. Is the wireless connection creating some kind of harmful interference?
1209  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: I say NO to SSD for music playback. on: March 08, 2011, 08:15:46 pm
So, there not difference between a 7.200rpm and a 10.000rpm HDD? I mean talking about improving sound.

Now that it seems that both the OS and XXHigEnd should be in a HDD in place of in a SSD for better sound, wouldn´t be a good idea to have it in the fastest possible HDD?, I´m thinking about something like a VelociRaptor. The 150Gb are now around 100€. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=20
1211  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Two months now since the first Phasure NOS1 Dac was delivered on: February 23, 2011, 03:33:29 pm
Don't try this (to get more bass) with a bass knob, or by tuning your xover. That won't work at all, because things will be out of balance or the xover doesn't work as intended (it won't "connect").

Of course this isn't a matter of the NOS1 outputting more bass. Here too, as Mani says : all is still in balance.

I agree with you, although I can work out with my speakers bass knob the real issue is to find the right balance, otherwise the bass could be overwhelming, loosing the qualities of a real bass: tight, as deep as it should be and tuneful, that means balanced with the rest of the frequencies.

The standing waves being absent is a bonus, but a measurement within itself may you want to check it. I do. When standing waves are suddenly there I don't care anymore whether I like the music; something just *will* be wrong.
Btw, I'm the only one on the globe telling this. But the NOS1 itself is proof of my thinking (and what I strive for, if you want).
Lastly, but it may sound commercially, it may come extra special to you when I keep on telling/advising that this just works *without* any pre-amp. And not only that (which is difficult to achieve), but also that it does NOT work *with* pre-amp.

I´ve experienced it with the standing waves, they disappeared when playing with the XXHigEnd, it´s a weird phenomenon but the truth is that the bass become clearer and there isn´t boom at all. It could appear thinner at first but in fact is more tuneful.

Great review Mani. Thanks!!. So although your bass is tuneful you´d like more of it, in what sense? you´d want a deeper bass or a bass with more extension in the sound stage?. What´s the frequency response of your speakers?
1213  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Two months now since the first Phasure NOS1 Dac was delivered on: February 22, 2011, 02:43:25 pm
Thanks Gerard, I appreciate your opinion. Maybe, as you say, Mani or Pedal would want also share with us their experience after around this two months.
1214  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Two months now since the first Phasure NOS1 Dac was delivered on: February 20, 2011, 01:33:01 pm
Thanks Gerard, I read all the post about the Phasure NOS1 and I see beautiful words about it but I also see, mostly from Peter, that the sound evolves with the time. This evolution comes from the ultra detailed of the first days to the "balanced" sound after one month or so.

I´d like to know more about the experiences from the owners that have it for more than one month. How is it evolved and how do you feel now compared to the dac you had before. The judgements from the first days are very often enthusiastic, what do you think now with your ears more used to the Phasure?. Is it the sound more emotional, more analytical or both?, etc.

Two months now since the first Phasure NOS1 Dac was delivered. I´m eager to know more about how is evolving the sound. Would you please, the ones with more time with the Dac, share your experiences?.
