166  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XX HighEnd-206 doesn't start because of Active X message on: June 29, 2016, 01:47:19 pm
Peter , I used the upgrade patch on 2.05 to ugrade to 2.06, isn't it possible to get just the new patch or do I have to install the new 2.06 version?

Thanks,
Juan

That's great Peter, I haven't seen your last post.

Thus only when the Max is low you have the problem, and when setting only that to higher the problem goes away right away ?

That's not totally correct Peter. I've discovered that  if I set the Max to 20, 30, 40, 50, 70 and 80 the message appears and when I set it to 60 all is ok. So, here it only works correctly when Max is set to 60.
There's no other error messages than the ones shown by Stanley in the first post.

I had the same problem here but so far it's solved changing SFS Mx to 60 (initially it was 20). No matter the SFS value, I was using 0.7 but now I find better SQ at 4.00. The value that produces the problem is a low Max value. At least that's what I've found.

I don't know if it has something to do with it or not. When I am a few days out of home I disconnect the system and when I return the first day I'm listening music the sound seems to be much better. I always thought that it had do with my ears that forgot how good it was sounding but also suspected that unplugging it for some time the system was cleaned.

The problem was caused by the Copy Settings To field not referring to the X:\XXHighEnd\2.xx\ folder.

Happy

Yes. I don't know how or when I changed it. Now all is working fine again.

Thanks for your help,

Juan

Hi Peter, I think that the problema has to do with attach/dettach 10586.0

As you can see I can Detach the 10565.0 volume but not the 10586.0. I don´t know what I did wrong nor how to fix it up.

Juan

Ok.

But it is still not clear whether you are able to let show the proper message in the Title Bar (the one with "RAM" in it when really booted from RAM).

Peter

No, I´m not able to let show the message in the Title Bar with RAM in it.

Juan,

Can you confirm :

a. You can get it all right again (so no problem in the end);
b. You can repeatedly reboot without the RAM OS Disk in there.

Ad b.
I wonder : How do you know that it actually reboots ?
So if you connect a monitor to the Audio PC, you may see unexpected things ...

Peter

a. You can get it all right again (so no problem in the end);

I can work with the different OS in the RAM-OS with or without the RAM-OS hdd inside the Audio Pc with no problem but always appears the same title in the bar, as you can see in the pictures.

b. You can repeatedly reboot without the RAM OS Disk in there.

No. I misspoke. What I meant is that I tried to restart from the ram (without the RAM OS Disk) but could not. Then, the computer was as dead, did nothing. I had to turn it off and put the RAM-OS Disk inside, since it is when it happens that the same title always appears at the XXHE bar.

Peter, I can do absolutely the same as before. That is, I can load any system in the ram and remove the RAM-OS and everything works properly in the Audio Pc. The only difference I can see is that in the title bar always appears the same. Here I put another picture, in this case with the 10586.0 BASE. As you can see the title is again XXHighEnd 2.05 (C:\XXHighEnd\2.xx), the same one as the previous picture.

Yes, there´s another W10, the one I use in the Music Server Pc, it is in a partition of one SSD where I also had Tidal and XXHE 2.04 and 2.05. Now I´m not using Tidal anymore but the Tidal structure and XXHE versions are still there.

Peter, no idea why in the XXHE v. 2.05 when booting from the RAM-OS into e.g. 10586.vhd or vhd RAM the title stay always the same: XXHighEnd 2.05 (C:\XXHighEnd\2.xx)

What perhaps mistakenly did was restart from the ram without placing back the RAM-OS hdd.

I´m sure that I´m playing from the ram because I can pull out the RAM-OS hdd and use XXHE without problem but, is there something wrong?

Well, it seems that finally the long dream of getting a clean power for our Audio Pc approaches the end. Congratulations to the ones that have participated in it and also a special greeting for Anthony because his perseverance has also served to keep alive the idea that it could be done. Now we wait eagerly for the design, final adjustment and price.

I've just read this interesting post from Paul McGowan from PS Audio and I recommend to follow it:

"Certainly the question of why vinyl is so appealing to some, unappealing to others, has gotten a clearer answer than ever before, at least in my head.

We understand that some of the vinyl’s magic can be explained by its generation of an artificial three dimensional sound bed from which the music is anchored in. The sound bed, consisting of surface noise and record ticks and pops, stand apart from the music because the needle sees them as separate–surface noise and music embedded in the record grooves ARE separate. To make matters even more interesting, vertical displacement of the needle often puts channel-to-channel stereo surface noise out of phase, which further adds to the illusion of dimensionality, from which the music can be anchored in. Further, and this is one part I find fascinating, every vinyl disc has a unique noise signature depending on numerous factors: how it was cut, the type of plastic it was made from, how clean it is, the condition of the surface. In other words, this satisfying bed of noise we seem to treasure is never the same, making each album a customized experience, and each cartridge more or less spatially interesting depending on how it tracks the surface.

We also understand vinyl’s stereo separation is nearly gone as the frequencies go up – so that upper harmonics, and high frequency spatial cues are somewhat mono as they tend to be in a live environment; a great example of poor performance enhancing the live feel of music. In digital, channels are separated exactly as they were recorded, which may not be what we want if we’re hoping to duplicate vinyl’s allure. A masterful recording engineer might add realism with an ambience microphone to take the place of vinyl’s limited channel separation in the upper registers.

And yet another mystery has been solved too. It is now clear why a digital copy of a needle drop is nearly indistinguishable from the actual playback through an analog setup. It’s likely because of the artificially induced three dimensional noise bed which is captured in the digital recording.

Further, we can also deduce this is may be part of the same reason an original digital recording sounds “better” when captured on vinyl, vs. playback through a DAC.

Paul  McGowan "

Juan

Hi Paul, thanks for such a complete report on what you have seen at the Axpona Show. I'm sure that once you get the complete front XXHE system you'll be even happier with it. I leave for others with a wider knowledge on components than me the opinion about the different systems in the show. I only would like to ask you for one thing. As it looks you are mostly a vinyl guy, at least so far, and that you have worked carefully the way to convert to digital your vinyls, could you tell me please what's the method you used to do it? I, like you, have some good jazz vinyls that I'd like to convert to digital to be listened through the NOS1A.

Juan
