Juan, very very good !

Now that you have confidence, maybe Anthony likes to explain how he got 2.05 over from the RAM OS Disk (I am pretty sure he did that and thus managed).

I did link Juan to your instructions to do so earlier in the this thread.  Here they are...

Quote
Hi Anthony,

2.05 is not for the public. It is on your RAM-OS disk though ...

What you can do is zip the XX folder (only that is fine, but include its sub folders) from any of the OSes (take the one you have been using), and move that to your other PC like a normal "install". It will require activation as usual.
BUT to mimic the normal install, start XXHighEnd in that other PC and go to settings and the Save As button, close to the top. RIGHTclick that to reset all.
If you don't do that, the install will not be normal and we will be spending a dozen of posts to make it normal. I myself can't do it either (I try some times Happy).

Regards,
Peter

That is exactly what I did to get 2.05 working and it worked first time!

Cheers,

Anthony

Anthony Yes you are right, I got that link to Peter words but I made some mistakes. I used the same Activation code for 2.04 and v. 2.05 and/or I tried it too many times without success.

Now that I have v. 2.04 Activated (since the first time I tried it with a new code) I wonder if I could maintain it and try the v. 2.05 with that code or if Iīd need a new code and follow again Peter instructions (from scratch, erasing XXData folder, etc.). Am I going to repeat the same errors?

Once I get v. 2.05 I could forget about v. 2.04 but I'm afraid to loose it before I get v. 2.05.

Kind regards,
Juan

Thank you Peter, it took me two days playing around with 2.05. I think that I read a post where someone was working fine with 2.05 and I thought that it was the way to go. Anyway, now I could Activate XXHE v.2.04 and Tidal and is time to learn how to work with it. I have rarely been in such a bad mood regarding XXHE. Well, I hope it worth using Tidal.

Kind regards,
Juan

Hi Juan, you need to play some music from HDD before Tidal streaming Happy

"...
Load one or two tracks in the Playlist Area and play one in Attended Mode for a short while;
Watch the blue 'XXHighEnd' in the title bar of the XX user interface;
Quit XXHighEnd and Restart XXHighEnd;
Again start Playback.
Once more quit XXHighEnd and Restart XXHighEnd;
The title bar now shows 'XXHighEnd' in red when Activation succeeded.
..."

Thanks, thatīs what the email says and what I did a dozen of times without results. Iīll try to install XXHE from scratch again.

Regards,
Juan

Hi Peter, I find it impossible to activate XXHE (v.2.05 or v2.04) in my Music Server PC. I have carefully followed the instructions of the email I received, I have configured Internet Explorer (no Edge) as the default browser, I have disabled Windows Defender. I've done everything I usually do to activate XXHE but the top bar does not turn red, although the Processor Core Scheme Appointment is Activated.
That's the reason why I can't log in Tidal. I guess that Iīm doing something wrong but what? My Music Server PC has W10 Pro 64bit and 8Gb of memory.

Thanks Alain and Anthony, I have a few questions.
In my Music Server Pc l'm not using Ram disk, yes in my Audio Pc. I'm trying to install XXHE in the Music Server Pc disconnected from the Audio Pc and connecting directly the Music Server Pc to the NOS1. Am I doing it correctly this way? When I have to register  with Tidal in XXHE?, I have not Activated yet XXHE and I can't see the window asking to register with Tidal. What about the updates in the W10 I have in the Music Server Pc? as I have it connected to Internet  it is updated and it was difficult to install XXHE, not sure though if it has something to do with it.

Regards,
Juan

Juan,

The Music Server never has to be connected to the NOS1...only the AudioPC is connected when you want to play music.  For best results the Music Server should have a direct ethernet connection to the AudioPC so the chain looks as follows...

Music Server >> ethernet cable >> AudioPC >> Clairixa >> Intona >> Clairixa >> NOS1a.

Yes Anthony thatīs how I have it (see my signature).

Just to be clear, the Music Server does not need to have XXHE configured to play music or even connect to a dac.  We just want to run Remote Desktop and XXHE (for Tidal only), so W10 updates won't matter at all to SQ or anything else.

From where you are, I would activate XXHE (but not worry about setting up a dac driver or anything like that), make sure you have a direct ethernet connection between the two PC's, and then bother with the Tidal stuff last of all.  The network stuff may be a little tricky to get setup properly.

Cheers,

Anthony

Thanks Anthony, I understood that I had to configure also XXHE in the Music Server Pc. Iīm going to try it as you say.

Regards,
Juan

Peter, yes I have a license but I wasn't sure if I need to buy another one.
Thanks

Hi Peter,

Iīm trying to install Tidal but although I read the Tutorials I canīt find the previous steps in case I need to install XXHighEnd in the Music Server Pc. I remember reading something before about that it is necessary to buy a new license (to be refunded) but I canīt find it and how to proceed later once XXHE is installed to login to Tidal.

Regards,
Juan

So you just instal XXHE on your Music Server computer as normal, get it activated, but don't necessarily set it up to play music if you don't want to.  Then you login into Tidal as Peter describes in one of those tutorials and it should all work as intended.  Be careful to set the locations of the Tidal Temp and Streaming folders in XXHE setting of both the Music Server and AudioPC so that they are both looking at the same directories.

Since I finally got fast internet a week ago I am using Tidal daily and it is really a much loved part of XXHE for me now.  Before when the internet was flakey....not so much fun...but that is the internet not XXHE.

Hi Anthony, that's what I needed to know because in the tutorials I couldn't find that part clearly explained.

Is it truly so important to have a really fast Internet? I understood that in some way it's possible to store the downloaded files to be played in a later moment.

Thank you
Juan

191  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: CPU Fan on: April 05, 2016, 05:44:47 pm
Alain, the Noctua has an adapter to reduce the speed that can be connected to other adapter with a molex to be connected to a power supply. If you have a 12v linear power supply probably you can connect the fan there at the speed you want.

Hi Alain, the fan I use can be powered by the PSU as it comes with an adapter so I imagine that it could also be powered by an external power supply.

So not a big problem in either case, if Iīm correct.

I am not aware of any problem anyway !

If you mean that the consumption is so low that it is not a problem anyway ... correct. But it still is so that everything matters (SQ wise).

Regards,
Peter

I agree with you Peter but it seems that thereīs nothing we can do about it due that we have to use the cpu fan anyway.

Juan

Hi Peter,

Hi Juan,

I'm not sure if I understood well if Peter turns the fan Off in Minimize and On when in the bios.

The CPU fanS run always in my situation. But they are completely inaudible, so it is not about the acoustical noise anyway. The discussion will thus be about the elecrical noise, or actually : power draw. I forgot, but I recall that an average (running) 12V fan consumes 5W.

Regards,
Peter

The NF-S12A ULN (the fan I use) Max. input power is 0,72W http://noctua.at/en/nf-s12a-uln/specification

In your NH L12 is 0,6/0,96 W http://noctua.at/en/nh-l12/specification

So not a big problem in either case, if Iīm correct.

Juan

For Juan and others because it could be hard to understand :

What "we" use is the Noctua LH-12L which as two fans.
So the talk is about "hey we shut off one of the fans already - can the other maybe shut off too ?"

Btw, which of the two did you guys cut off ? The bottom or the top one ? (my guts say the bottom one)

Thanks,
Peter

Peter, that's right for the ones that are using the NH-L12 or have your Audio Pc. In my case I only use one fan, the NF Audio S12A ULN, because my PC is not a HTPC and use a heatsink larger than that used in the NH-L12. Thus the NF S12A at 600rpm is sufficient but could not be so in other cases where a cooler with less cooling capacity is used. I searched for the quieter fan possible to maintain an adequate temperature and in the bios I can see that after a couple of hours the temperature does not exceed 42°C, so that will be even lower in Minimize mode.
In conclusion, the CPU fan is necessary. I'm not sure if I understood well if Peter turns the fan Off in Minimize and On when in the bios. Personally I have it always On because the noise is imperceptible and also I canīt lower the CPU frequency as much as Peter.

Regards,
Juan
