Peter,  we all work together here trying to help as best as we can,  this is what makes this one such a special place. Of course irony and humor are always good tools to make the sometimes tough issues a bit more palatable.

Have a nice weekend,
Juan

Hi Juan,

It looks to be quite easy for you to turn things in a way so that you don't understand (yourself). In this case the example would be that you suddenly (!) perceive it normal that some kind of textbook is required to, well, just boot (never mind it is a boot into again MinOS).

Peter,

Here, it makes a great sunny weekend day, so I am faced with these minor difficulties with great humor and positive sense. With this spirit I receive your kind judgments about my way of perceiving the reality. Certainly my mind is not overly analytical, it is rather a little convoluted haha, well ... seriously, thank you for your willingness to help.

I am not sure at all whether it will help if you now in more clear fashion try to describe what is going on, clearly assumed that I don't know what you run into over there.
What is the very first strange thing you see ? (assume to be running in MinOS)
And if a screenshot helps (can also be by phone), don't hesitate.

We will get it !

First of all let me say that I do not use any remote control, or tablet, or even another computer, phone, remote desktop, wi-fi, etc. nothing. Just my audio computer with a SSD with W10 and XXHE in it. I use an external hard drive connected to this pc via USB, a keyboard, monitor and mouse. I also use the little Ramdisk program created by Alain that works wonderfully well. That is the basic structure of my audio pc. I will not go now on whether if it is better or worse, it is just what it is.

This is step by step what happens from when I turn on my computer:

First message displayed on the desktop (always):

"Explorer exe. - Unknown hard error". I know it does not matter so I click in Accept.

Now I click on the Ramdrives icon and after that on the XXHE icon and the program opens.

Occasionally the program opens in Minimize but a message appears saying the engine # 1 and # 2 are obsolete, etc . See pic. After the reboot all is correct.

Once more, I shut down the computer (right click in stop). I repeat the process until I open XXHE. This time everything works fine.

I repeat the process and again everything is ok.

Obviously I was doing something wrong, or following the wrong steps to turn off the computer returning to Minimize first which it is not necessary.

For now problem solved.

Kind regards,
Juan

Peter,

Sorry if I have not explained it well. In my signature you can see that Iīm using W10 and all the other settings. In short, to turn off the computer itīs not a problem. But when I turn on the computer again I must make several reboots to get it really in Minimize state.
I have tried to understand the help text of the Minimize button, but I find it confusing, although it seems to reflect the problem Iīm talking about, meaning that although the Minimize button is active (red) really is not (that's when non of the buttons work) and it requires several reboots. What would help is to have a clear sequence of steps to turn it on and put it into Minimize in a simple way, i.e. with a single reboot.

Thank you Maxi for your help.

Juan

Peter, I have read something about this but can not find where. When the OS is in Minimize and I want to shut down the computer there is no way because the off button does not respond. I have to go back to Normal mode to turn it off. The problem is that, when I turn on the computer again, it takes a lot of work to go back to Minimize and play music because the buttons (S, P, L, Q, etc) are inactive. I have to reboot several times until the buttons miraculously become again operational in Minimize. Iīd like to know whatīs the sequence to follow to turn off the computer from Minimize and to return to Minimize once the PC is turned on.

Juan

Thanks,

Hi Juan,

You may not need or want help on this but ... do you mean that the aspect ratio is not right now ?

Quote
The size and resolution of my screen does not allow the perfect shape of images

It is a bit hard for me to imagine what could be wrong hence it should be possible to make it OK.
So is it the aspect ratio you are referring to ?

Regards,
Peter

Peter, Iīm happy to help, as always, if I know how. The recommended resolution of my monitor is 1366 x 768 - 60Hz and I canīt find that resolution in W10 nor in XXHE or how to make images without lengthening or stretching it a bit. Probably it is possible to do it correctly but I donīt know how, to tell you the truth, so far I always have had clicked the "Donīt do anything with Coverart" button. It is now that Iīm experimenting with it, so Iīm a novice  Happy

Juan

Thank you for that screenshot, Juan.

What happened is that you let the checkbox remain checked when the programs / popups passed by during the install process and now "Under the hood things will go wrong" as the very first larger screen promises.
So the programs must run and the checkbox must imply "do not ask for this again".

What you can do is Rightclick the "Save as" button near the top in settings, choose Reset, quit XXHighEnd and start again. I think the pograms/popups will pass by again so you have another chance.

Let me know if it helps ...
Peter

Thanks for the help Peter, it took me a while but the popups were gone. I uninstalled/reinstalled the OCX although I'm not sure if it was absolutely necessary. Later I played for a while with the Skings settings and the result looks pretty good to me. The size and resolution of my screen does not allow the perfect shape of images but I think itīs good enough.

The sound seemed great at first impression so now I go to Activate it.

Peter, Iīm trying the new XXHE 2.02 in W10-10074 in demo mode and found some issues.

When I click the S buttom to go to the Settings Area a message says (traslated from Spanish):

Not possible to check the editor.ŋare you sure you want to run this software?
Name: C: \ XXHighEnd2.02 \ nircmd64.exe
Editor: Unknown
Type: Application
etc.

see picture 1 (in Spanish):

and I canīt go back to the Library or the Playlist Areas, to do it I have to restart XXHE and then, when I click in Clear and after closing XXHE and also when I click Play after starting XXHE and charging some album a message says:

Something went wrong at clearing the Proxyīs; A good reason for this is when a temporary file receive the Read Only attribute...
Error (this is just an example because it happens with all the albums): Access denied because the file "100_Black_volume_6--Frontal.jpg" itīs been used in other pro
cess.

I know that I made at least one thing wrong (probably more) when I installed XXHE for the first time, I did it too quickly and I donīt know if that errors have something to do with it. I made a mistake when several programs asked to initialize and instead click in "do not show this message again" I clicked "ok" (continue). I reinstalled again XXHE but nothing changed.

Do you think that I have to reinstall Windows 10? I rather to do it before I buy the Activation Code to avoid having to use paypal repeatedly .

Thanks,
Juan

If you go to the Tutorials and the Remote Control section in there and read all through from top to bottom ...

That should be sufficient.

Hi Peter, the latest tutorials you've written have long been expected and were very necessary, thank you.

296  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: New NOS1 dedicated PC. I am quite terrified. Help if you can!! on: May 22, 2015, 10:15:45 am

Having a dual CPU in the music (file) server really seriously does not make any sense. Take a laptop for that ! (to emphasize what I mean).

Are there some minimal specifications for a server laptop like amount of memory, CPU speed, USB ports or hdd size?

Hi Juan,

The laptop was an example to show how irrelevant it all is. In the end I would never use a laptop because they often suffer from congestion (look at the ever burning disk light) and might be unresponsive for a (too) long time. Still it gives the (my) idea that it doesn't matter much.

Regards,
Peter

Hey Peter, sometimes is difficult to understand your yes/not at the same time,  probably the same applies to me and to many people here and it shows the complexity and multitude of possibilities of what we are treating here.
But...sometimes also the answer could be more specific or at least "some" more specific. E.g. I was waiting for something like: would be better if you don't use a laptop and use instead a Pc with at least 4Gb of memory and a i3 processor, etc. Or better even: take a look at what I am using now as Pc server.
Of course for me is difficult to deal with a foreign language with enough subtlety. So do not understand this as a reproach but as a humble proposal to avoid countless posts asking back the same thing.

Kind regards,
Juan

With a bit more time now ...

Yesterday I realized that I had actually taken out the text of the new Filters and only had a small link to it now. So SQ changes became completely overwhelmed by all the other text (far too much of it anyway). So seconds before your question about it, Juan, I added that one line of text close to the top. But it is still strange and out of balance.

Of course everybody has to listen for themselves but for me it has been a "change over change".
Most important I think is the fact that you can choose from 4 filters if you leave it at 705.6 output to your NOS1(a). More crucial can be that you can also output in 352.8 for which another 2 filters are available. These 6 new filters for me are already too much to explore. But you can bet that all sound different and maybe all sound better than the standard Arc Prediction (what is that ... "sound better" ?).

Regards,
Peter

Peter, the truth is that the short commentary about the SQ that appeared briefly surprised me because I had not seen it the first time. Anyway, you're right in saying that the SQ is something we'll have to see for our self. As I said, in my case, I have never been able to install successfully the remote control, so I wonder if the new version's main objective is the use of the remote control, galleries, etc leaving the SQ in a less prominent spot. This new version may not sound worse, Iīm sure it can even sound better, or maybe simply just different as you say, but it opens a world of almost infinite number of combinations handling 6 filters combined with all the other settings.

Let me ask a question just to think about it a bit. Arenīt we going down a path where test is the final goal instead to enjoy music? With so many alternatives and the increasingly complex software, we are not losing that final goal? I'm not against evolution that I consider necessary, but a software with so many combinations..., the truth is that it requires, again, a lot of effort and energy. Naturally there are always people willing. I can even be one of them at some future if I am able to see it less complicated and also leaves me time to enjoy music.

I say this with affection and as a constructive criticism.

Kind regards,
Juan

Hi Peter, after a quick first look at this new version I couldnīt see any reference about the sound quality. As I donīt use any remote, Iīd like to know if this new version has improved the sound quality compared to the 1.186-a version.

Kind regards,
Juan
