496  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / How I can lower the CPU to around 0.45 Ghz? on: January 04, 2014, 10:14:37 pm
I always wanted to ask something and don´t know why I never did (or I did it?  scratching):

How can the cpu be lowered to around 0.45 Ghz?. Maybe someone with an ASUS mb could give me some help because although I´ve tried I can´t find the way.

Regards,
Juan

Ok, thanks Peter. I´ll try it to see what´s the lowest one that works and also the SQ with some other SFS settings.

Best regards,
Juan

Yes, with SFS 4 it works. But why at 0,4 works with some albums and with others not?

Hi Peter, it is about 1.128-a and I´m activated correctly (red letters and P.C.A. Scheme: Core 1-2)

In some cds, after one or two tracks the music stops. It happens when the track ends and then the GUI returns to the desktop. In other cds the music plays until the end of the cd with no problem at all. I can´t see where are the differences between a cd or the other e.g. both are wav.

501  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 1.186, best ever! (Again) on: January 04, 2014, 05:31:00 pm
You think there is any doubt about the SQ?

502  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 1.186, best ever! (Again) on: January 03, 2014, 11:53:20 pm
Today I´ve installed the new 1.186 and I´ve been testing it. Before I put here my first impressions I must say that my system now is limited, I´m using near-field monitors (ls3/5a in this case) so I can´t evaluate correctly the bass, but anyway, I´d like to share what I can hear.

For the test I´m using a cd from a Spanish singer that I know very well in recordings and in live peformances http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tarres-Serrat-Joan-Manuel/dp/B001I8BFDO/ref=sr_1_1_bnp_1_mus?ie=UTF8&qid=1388784838&sr=8-1&keywords=Cansiones+Serrat

I used the same settings as Peter and only changed the Processor Core Appointment Scheme. In my system the differences are not night and day (probably in any system are night and day) but here they are:

1-2: This is where the sound seems more natural, the voices are the ones that pertains to the singer, I mean I recognize that voice as the singer real one, the one I heard in live performances. The guitar (e.g. in Sabana) and in general the instruments have a special delicacy and plenty of harmonics.

The following opinions are in comparison to the 1-2 setting

1-3: The voice is more palpable but it seems to lose some nuances. The sound seems a little more upfront. The sound of the guitar strings looks more metallic.

3-4: The sound is dryer. The voice is thinner and the cords metallic.

3-5: The voice is darker and the cords in some other different way than before are also metallic.

2-3: The voice has less nuances, the instruments are more in front and the cords are again metallic.

As you can see my favorite is the 1-2 as it looks the more balanced and natural. I do not deny that the 1-2 as being the one chosen by Peter, for the moment, may have influenced my appreciation but that's what it is. We can not escape easily from the strong personality of this guy hahaha

Well done Peter!

Best regards,
Juan

So many things have changed ... others do not, such as kindness and willingness to share and help from the people here.

Merry Christmas to you all,

Diffusers ? cushens ? books perhaps ? carpet maybe ? Do you still need that TV ?

LOL (take with super grains of salt - I couldn't hep myself).
But those speakers look really funny there Juan !
And glad that you have music again for now.

Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Peter, the TV?, I bought it to watch the last soccer World Cup and I´m keeping it for the next one in Brasil hahaha.
Do you know with whom play Spain the first match, don´t you?. Good luck my friend.  Wink

Seriously, I appreciate you are happy for me, I know it's a sincere feeling.

Its times likes these that make you wonder where the need is  for expensive kit with XX and a NOS1 as a front end. Great story  Happy

You are right Nick, XX/NOS1 improves everything that comes behind, we're lucky to have it and to have it at a real world price.

Thanks

The Behringer active monitors are excellent value. I've just sold some with an active sub which was my kids system. It survived parties and some of the most terrible music available today!!!!

There is a lot in favor of going down the active speaker route. Most pro studios use active monitors. The amplifiers are made to match the driver and are more efficient. You can buy excellent quality at a moderate price not the inflated so called "Hi-End" pricing. They are built to a specification standard something a lot of Hi-fi manufacturers don't use or care about.

If you go to surround speaker setup you can buy 5 speakers all the same.

Certainly in the future I would consider this option if I was upgrading or down. Check the Finish Genelecs out for example.

The source is critical and certainly helps when feeding lesser products.

The Behringer are a fantastic surprise for me at this moment. The advantage is also for sure the matched auto-amplification, as you say.

I heard about the Genelecs but never had the opportunity to listen to them, if they are as good as the people say they could make a perfect system in some circumstances.

Best regards,
Juan
506  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Miraculous speakers if you are in a budget on: December 16, 2013, 01:12:10 pm
As I sold my beloved and expensive speakers for circumstantial reasons I felt in the need to buy "something" while I find other good speakers. It is strange how I could feel a sort of emptiness since I´ve been without music although only for a couple of weeks. Looking at the "holes" where my speakers were made me depressed, once in a while I made some routine gestures to play music realizing suddenly that there were nothing to play with. It has been many years listening and playing with the sound every day...Finally the other day I decided to look for something to fix this  unhappy situation.
As I wanted to spend as less as possible I looked on the cheap second hand market and what I found is a miraculous speaker that made me not only forget my sorrows but to be happy enough to enjoy this time, a time while I get some other first class speakers.

This speaker is the Behringer Truth B2031A, it is a near-field auto amplified speaker but I´m using them in the same position where the other big speakers were (see pic) and the results are amazing, big sound-stage, clear voices, great bass, smooth treble, full sound. In other words if you are in a budget and need some speakers and you have a laptop (with XXHighEnd of course ;-)) go ahead and buy them, I paid 200€ for a nice second hand pair. Or if you want something to put in a budget system try them. You won´t regret.

It makes me think also how good is our XXHighEnd and of course the Phasure NOS1 that I´m using in this set-up (and in any other that could come)

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B2031A.aspx

The Spectron monoblocks that can be seen in the pic are disconnected and by the way are for sale also, just in case... Do you see the Ikea racks where the speakers are?, they are great too and cheap.

Regards,
Juan
