1  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / How many cores? on: March 16, 2011, 09:05:54 am
Peter,

Very interesting proposal.

How many cores would you need for 44.1 wav -> 384 into NOS1?

As well as schemes, do you intend to enable us be able to individually assign tasks to cores?

Steve

@64bit XX: will this give us massively greater lossless attenuation? clapping clapping clapping

Thank you Josef - I hear excellent dynamics, more emotion and still that super clean music on your 64bit JControversy!

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks Josef for the super-clean player.
Have not been able to break it, running along browsers/outlook/delphi.
It does not appear too hungry either.
Are you developing it further?
Can we have a version supporting smaller buffer sizes please? i.e. from 32 up?

OK...  just a routine check that this was not a leak. Shocked

7  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: OutOfMemoryException ? on: November 01, 2010, 03:59:58 pm
Thanks for the explanation - I seemed to have missed that 2Gb thread memory limit in the "SFS Solved/Hey can we get Peter to write a Censored !RAMdisk player/device driverCensored !" thread. Where does that limit come from? .NET?

Quote
Lastly for Goon-Heaven, your Virtual Memory of 8GB ... you do have 8GB space left on your OS disk, right ?
My OS disk is down to its last 46Gb.

Changing to scheme1 has enabled me to get buffer size back to where it was.

Virtual memory 8Gb
SFS= 218 ok. 219 exception

Peter,

Thank you for the "dont play" option! and the Alt-P attended. Z-3 brings another big step sound wise. Excellent  yahoo

However...
migrating from Z-2 with 1000 SFS to Z-3, I am confronted with this OutofMemory Exception too, seemingly with anything much over 50, even with SFS.ini of 00. The knock-on effects are having to raise buffer size from 32 to 128 to avoid buffer errors.

It would be nice to be able to get this SFS limit raised back up to 1000, so as to minimize unnecessary processes when playing. Is this something I can configure? From what Jarek reports on 16Gb, seems like more RAM aint the answer?

Steve

[Edit] It occurs to me that the knock on effect I mentioned may be due to other factors in Z-3?

10  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Play In Ramdisk? on: October 21, 2010, 03:50:25 pm
Peter,

It is possible to play directly in RamDisk? i.e. dont copy into OS jungle memory? Would this not avoid the heap issue?

i.e Copy music into RamDisk. Defrag. Play?  Tomatoes !

11  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: XX+music in ramdisk - the winner! on: October 14, 2010, 10:26:23 am
Hi, coming out from lurking in the corner..

I dont whether XX+music in ramdisk is the winner or not, but it is a very good improvement in my system over [music being on a NAS and copy to XX set]. With the latter, I was getting dropouts at the track end, presumeable when XX was copying in the next track? Now the music is cleaner, more dynamic and less resistable to getting up and dancing. yahoo

Peter: can we have a copy all tracks to XX disk before play option please?

Thanks. That explains the symptoms. It would be nice to have on XP.
13  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Errar on trying to play mp3 on: October 29, 2007, 04:08:57 pm
Hi Peter,

I get this errar with sample MP3s on 0.9p on XP SP2. Any ideas?

Best regards
Steve

Thanks Peter - no panic - I have the workaround. Good luck with the dot-not work.

Sorry - Mis-understood Dos-Box - not heard it called that before.

1st image is end of the DIR listing of mapped drive of the ethernet disk. The date/time appear to be up creek. I did a bulk copy after installing the disk. Since then I have added 7 CDs into that directory - the last 7 items on the DIR.

2nd image is DIR listing of tracks of a CD directory on the mapped drive. I rip to C: and then cut and paste in explorer.
