Have you tried to not start engine during conversion?

As per your signature.

Wow P, nice sound with the new ARC pred.

Reminds me of the old days when a couple of XX versions where upsampling was better than vanilla.

Bass, macrodynamics etc. are very good in this version. Ambience is very nice.

Overall one of the best versions over the last year, P. Extra nice IMO because, frankly, I have been a little disappointed over the last versions and had started looking at other players as I felt we were on a wrong track SQ wize lately. Safe to say I've been hauled back in...

Btw., sounds like ARC isnt delivering when running in attended mode so un-attended is req. for getting the full new sound IMO. Sounds like its only doubling in attended, not upsampling.

Therefore, I have startet to run all in un-attended!  Cool

Please, hope further versions will uphold the same SQ or I for one will revert to this version, it's that good.

Yes and no...tried the last 9y-3 here tonight and on the last track the audio plays out normally but the track counter stops around 10% before the end while the sound is still playing further, e.g. the track counter and the sound isnt syncronized.

Reminds me of the same problem I have with the last song in a playlist, Peter.

Forget that...selecting more than 5-6 albums in the CENTER area of the screen above, with the mouse. Drag the mouse and holding in the left button.

Capisce?  Wink
21  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / XX vs. J River sound quality? on: September 18, 2009, 01:03:47 am
Anybody else compared XX to J Rivers playback software?

Actually thinks J River sounds very nice here in demoversion. A little probs getting it to shift and lock to 44Khz but else it sounds nice. Good perspective and a little more "alive" in the midbass than XX IMO.

Your thoughts?

Also got another for you: when u try to select several listed albums in the center pane of same library window with the mouse, e.g. drag the grid over the album pictures, it hangs up after some albums downwards, and says the object is busy elsewhere...and the program has to be closed from task manager as nothing responds.
23  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Library bug 9y3a on: September 18, 2009, 12:55:29 am
When i under the tab library try to search all the albums, and remove the cross in the checkbox 100 only, the program crashes with the below error.

If I try to search only the first 100 (checkbox ticked) it works normally.

Well, y3 is not laidback here...and no problems what so ever. Dunno if I dare change anything atm.

Got around to testing Y3 - my bass came back to me...sob...happy tears, mon!  very happy

Thanks, P! Happy

Only blessings from here so far, nice sound.

lol...thx, Peter!  Happy

Nah, not lost in attended, doing un-attended for maximum involved listening. But some listenening are happening together with other activites on the computer and in real life and then the un-attended session creates dropouts, noise etc. the longer it has played. The possibility to stop services etc. further aggravates Vista and the possibilities to run other software simultaneously and creates dropouts with error reports from Vista etc.

Selecting prosessor schemes and thread prios further aggraves these error conditions and therefore have not been enabled in my system.

So yeah, sometimes im doing playback in attended - shoot me.  Wink

To the above, yes, have played with the Q-controls. Doesn't help. The only thing these does is softening/hardening the playback somewhat.

I have suggested it earlier, give us a possibility to implement convolver filters or just add a simple 8-10 band graphical EQ into the player so we can pull down the highs etc. in a system where that is overpowering.

Hi Peter,

Unattended is definitely better than attended; no doubt about that. However with my set up I still find that the high's are a bit harsh & bold. Tried various Q settings but none improved this. Wonder what is causing this since it appears that I am probably the only one hearing this?

Arvind

I have the same here. Well, not harsh really, but too high in level. Pointed that out earlier regd. the new versions, sounds like theres too little level of bass compared to the rest of the spectrum, and then the top will stand out.

Don't know if this is something Peter has designed to go better with his own equipment?

Something like Windows Media Player e.g. has a much more balanced recital of the frequency range, but of course all the nice staging etc. from XX goes down the drain.
30  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Host Process for Windows Services stopped working on: August 28, 2009, 06:11:15 am
Isnt't it possible to make the program not aggrevate these HOST messages? I've found that turning off processor scheme and set the thread priorities to Nothing helps somewhat, but dosen't cure the problem 100%.

This is one of the things that HAS to be removed as a problem if you ever is gonna sell this program on any market...

The stone age user interface is something to be remedied too, Peter... unhappy
