151  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Urgent new necessity! Keypress inst. of mouse on: November 28, 2007, 08:21:10 pm
Peter, PLEASE, Please, please add key shortcuts to the buttons on the front page of XX. When loading up a big playlist I wish to relax in my listening chair and be able to skip tracks ahead with a keypress on my keyboard, not be bothered with powering up my monitor, grappling with the mouse and clicking away...

Suggestions: pressing N skips to next track in the playlist, B skips backwards, P Pause, SPACE Play, O Off (stops and exits player), D Changes Double checkbox, U Changes upsample checkbox, I Changes Invert checkbox.

Hope this can be implemented in the next release. Have mentioned this to you earlier.
There's also easy to transfer such shortcuts to control XX by remote if this is implemented.

Please prioritize this. I KNOW I'm not the only one wanting this...

Unavoidable question : you did re-tick the Core Apopointment checkbox and did not forget to re-assign priority ? Yes.

Quote
Is this a factor of the O version beeing installed before reverting to N?

If you think of what "installed" means in this case ...
Please think carefully wheter you did not change things in your environment (I know this is a superfluous question, but your quote above leads to it ...). Nothing was changed besides unpacking XX in the same catalogue.

I'm open to it anyway. Happy

One more thing :
Indeed I can imagine SQ changes with your WMP rips. In the current version it would even be a mistake on my side. BUT : How do you compare things anyway ? Compared SQ by playing back one CD ripped in EAC (didn't use WMP rips for comp.) in N and the same CD in O version. Same settings, made sure of that.

If you only not listen to WMP rips now, *OR* did not re-rip especially to listen through XXHighEnd and all the so many "mistakes" which can be made, and which makes apples and oranges of things.
153  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9o degraded SQ on: October 24, 2007, 05:44:55 pm
Sorry for beeing a little unclear... Happy
This was LATE last night. To cut through it: version O with the WMP WAV support is not as good-sounding as version N without WMP WAV support. Ok? Base-lines are fatter and not detailed enough compared with N. A little out of control in O.

For my sake: dispense with the changes in O version kontra N. I'd rather ripp my CDs again in EAC rather than live with degraded playback possibly due to this and forego my already ripped CDs through WMP.

But, now after installing N again I have crackling under Q1=0 If I also enable either double or ups. Is this a factor of the O version beeing installed before reverting to N?
As I'm not USING double or Ups this is not a problem, only observing.

More seriously, seems that when new options is to be added, it's easy for some SQ to go missing...and that we DON'T want! Happy
156  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Next project : The best sounding MP3 player on: October 24, 2007, 04:09:31 am
Nah, let i'm rip his CDs AGAIN...good for the soul...and ditch the MP3-variant...  Wink
157  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / 0.9o degraded SQ on: October 24, 2007, 04:01:30 am
Yep, SQ IS definitely higher in N than in O-version...cleaner, clearer and better throughout the whole spectrum...sorry Peter!
Have reinstalled my N version and am back in my local nirvana... Happy
158  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / 0.9o degraded SQ on: October 24, 2007, 03:54:49 am
Have installed the o-version. Not so sure is this was a step in the right direction...
Am able to play WMP ripped wavs in engine 3 now BUT: used -3 Q1 in N-version. If useing -3 in O AND clicking on either Double or Upsamp a crackling interceeds the music. If I then relaxes the Q1 to 0 the crackle goes away. All Q1 values below 0 gives crackle. No double or upsamp removes the crackle also when Q1 is below 0. AND, not 100% yet, but think the SQ has somewhat degraded from N, also with EAC-ripped material in engine 3...  unhappy

Suggestion: If the mods we have talked about in this thread is the cause, please remove these mods and support for my WMP ripped wav files. I'd rather rip them again in EAC and regain the high SQ from the N version.

Ok, sent you a PM link to an example file.
160  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Version N and source problems on: October 18, 2007, 11:36:23 pm
After upgrading to the N version I'm experiencing sound heaven here! Goodie...

BUT, and there's a big one: It only accepts playing rips from EAC! .WAV rips from other programs, like MP11 can't be played in engine3. When clicking on Play there's a new small window opening displaying something like "Unable to open streams" and an OK button. Playing the same files in Engine 1 or 2 is ok.

Oh, yeah - Vista Premium - E6700 @ 3500Mhz - Q1=-3 Noinvert Noups Nodouble

And guess what: most of my collection, whish is only .wav files btw., is ripped in other programs than EAC... unhappy

Version J f.ex. plays these files without problems in Engine 3.
161  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Diff. in SQ using Vistas different versions? on: September 17, 2007, 06:27:45 pm
Ordered a copy of Vista 32 Ultimate English version. Will try it in the weekend on a separate disk.
162  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Diff. in SQ using Vistas different versions? on: September 16, 2007, 06:56:57 pm
Am going to try Vista for audio-only playback. Any differences in the different versions of Vista when it comes to audio playback? Is one version better than the rest regd. this?

Talking about 32bit versions.
163  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / J vs. K version SQ on: September 16, 2007, 01:39:44 am
After testing some with both the J and the K version today, I must give a nod towards better SQ from the J version. In comparison the K version sound flatter with much less depth information and generally duller and rounder, unfocused. One of the strengths of J is a VERY good depth recital. I can hear like 10-20m into the sound-picture. Became edgy and disinterested after an hour of playback with K. J makes me relax and really enjoy the music and become involved.

I also hear a lot more air around the performers with J.

Ended up going back to J version and preferring that to the new K.

Using XP and Engine #1, 44.1 output to Lexicon MC-12B DAC/Pro.

Will try out the D version tomorrow and compare it to J.

Impression so far: K was a misstep in evolution as SQ is concerned. J is HighEnd. At least for my platform.
164  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / For 3D/room playback - Gregorian on: September 14, 2007, 11:41:46 pm
Gregorian Choir music - mix of pop and classical Gregorian chants - perfect for playing back an solid sense of 3D, depth and air in the mix.

Also: try every CD you have of live recordings - golden! Happy
165  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: The cost of XX on: September 14, 2007, 11:31:21 pm
I thought that 72 EUR was a little steep, but that was before I listened to the product! Guess we are too used to 39,90USD prices for software on the web... Cough... Happy

After listening to the product (test version) and comparing it to several other programs it was clear that SQ from the XXHighEnd player is miles ahead from the crowd and so it must be considered a bargain. I bought a license with a smile!

The player really got the best out playback from my HighEnd HTPC. Highly recommended!
