31  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Intona High Speed USB 2.0 galvanic isolation on: December 26, 2015, 02:05:32 pm
Hi Peter,

Please put me down to ship a short Clarixa with my OS RAM drive. I think 30-40cm would be good. If any of us want to put it on the same shelve as the NOS1a, it would be long enough to set the isolator between the front two legs of DAC.

Thanks,
Todd

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Audiophools Happy

And what nice surprise from Santa Peter!!
33  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Uptone Regen with NOS1a ?? on: November 22, 2015, 02:22:04 am
So I've been running a Uptone Amber Regen for about 2 months. I run it off a battery power supply and the stock oscillator has been replaced with a New Class-D Nuetron Star clock and its dedicated power supply.

The output is just the direct USB A-B converter and the input is the Phasure Clarixa cable

One other caveat, the PCI-E USB card also has a Nuetron Star clock and power supply.

In my system, currently running XX 2.02 and W10 10074, and to my ears, I prefer the result of having it in the system to removing it.

Blacker background, sharper imaging, slightly more low level information, quicker and tighter bass with less overhhang. All and all, just a more natural accurate sound. There is a very obvious flattening and slight digitizing of the sound when it is removed. It's a keeper for now,

The big qualifier is: I'm sure Peter is always one or two steps ahead of what the rest of us are hearing with "yet to be disclosed" system tweaks and of course the OS in RAM setup.

Hey Peter,

So do we need to wait for 2.03 and it's new tweaks for 10565 or will 2.02 run in minimized on 10565? It's hard sit on the sidelines waiting with curiousity at what you are hearing there Happy

Ah yes, I see now. micro volts vs. millivolts

Thank you Peter.

Hi Anthony,

I have 3 separate Acopian high grade power supply's with .25mv ripple and .005% line regulation, one for each MB voltage rail. (See attached spec. sheet.) I've been meaning to use your wiring & power up sequence research cheat sheet to give them a try, just haven't gotten around to it.

I'll try to get to it this weekend and report my results here. Maybe it will provide some additional useful information. I hope so anyway.

Hi Peter,

I have the same ASROCK MOBO and all the same hardware but a full ATX case, is that doable? Hope so.

By the way did I remember a Ferrari red NOS1 pic somewhere?

Hey Peter,

I'm kind of like Mani right now. I've been so swamped with other things, I have not even had a chance to mess with my audio system.

I purchased a new SSD, downloaded the correct build of Windows 10 probably almost two months ago and the SSD is still in its sealed box & I haven't even put Windows on a bootable disc. Pretty pathetic. Wink

Anyway I'd like to purchase the whole package, and if I haven't already  bought the license for the latest XX by the time your ready to ship it out to me we'll add that in too.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to my audio. I've got some new woodworking equipment coming in and I'm getting ready to pair a bunch of 101db sensitive 15" drivers in an open baffle setup with my BD Orphean horns. I've already got some cool finish ideas with some carbon fiber sheeting & Ferrari Rossa Corsa paint. Definitely won't be subtle smile

Once again Peter, thank you for continuing to advance all ends of the playback chain. It's easy to rekindle our audio passion with you around!!!

No....Mani, say it isn't so unhappy  Your NSX was pristine and such a rare color! Your going to miss it and like many NSX who sell theirs, you'll probably re-purchase one in the future! But yours was just so... Nice!

I just had mine out yesterday after driving the F430 Spider,  I LOVE my NSX!!

So I don't want to get off the topic of the wonderful new Clairixa USB cable, so I'll just make one further response about my other love besides my first love of audio, fast sports cars!

Mani,

You are certainly correct about wanting to drive the newcomer and both of them are beautiful mid-engined sports cars in their own way(although man the Ferrari is really a work of art).

But just to clarify, I've owned the NSX for over 20 years so I don't take these purchases lightly and the NSX will never go until I do! The F430 could be a stepping stone to a used 458 in the future, who knows.

One other thing, I do ALL the work on the NSX, including the current highly modified engine build(OK, I still need the machinist, but I do all the blueprinting and assembly) The NSX is turbocharged and put down 720HP to the ground on premium unleaded and over 850HP ON e85 ethanol, so it is WAY faster than the F430 Happy Wink

In terms of convincing my wife to go along? Well, she is my 2nd wife and we were both in our 40's when we got married, so I'd say our expectations were honest and "what you see is what you get" so I we both got it right the 2nd time! So I feel blessed.

If I had to choose between my love for fine music reproduction and fast cars, I'd choose Music!!

All in good fun!
Todd

So I've been busy installing a new 4 post lift in my garage to put my beloved NSX above its new stablemate, a F430 Spider Happy Happy I finally got a chance to do some evening listening of my new Clairixa cable. Here are my initial impressions:

WOW!! Peter, what is under that cotton casing? Magic fairy dust!! Your descriptions are dead on. At first I thought wow this is really smooth but then realized all the distortion free detail I was hearing. And body(Raquel Welch and Sofia Loren in their prime have nothing on
Clairixa!)

Across the board, wider, deeper soundstage and just way more information? And those highs! Cymbals are getting so much closer to reality and violins too, so sweet. I'm really quite stunned that once again I am listening to my familiar library and hearing it as if they are all brand new super high resolution masters! This is easily as transformative as the B75 BNC upgrade.

I'll do some more listening this weekend and follow up. I've got some new BD Orphean3 horns and a new DSP bass crossover itching to be installed Wink but I'll hold off an additional day just to acclimate to my new music reality and the all the new beauty I am hearing.

Should really be an interesting weekend!

Heartfelt thank you Peter, really a fabulous upgrade!!

Hi Peter,

I'd love a 1 meter one also.

It's been nice having the dollar closer to the Euro, to bad this wasn't some full fledged "Peter's Brain" inspired piece of electronics Grin

Merry Christmas to all my fellow audiophooles here at XX  Wink

So I was wondering if any of you have experienced anything similar to what I noticed yesterday.

I was playing Christmas music at louder than normal volumes yesterday. My system is in my basement, so I left my stairway door open so everyone could hear it decently upstairs.

What I noticed was the sound coming out of th doorway was just crazy realistic! I could sit at the top of the stairs a really believe that there were live performers in my basement. Wow, it really sounds good from that perspective. Usually I'm sitting in my listening room sweet spot, and although of course the imaging and small details are better there, everything was just integrated so nicely from my stairwell.

I know Peter often mentions that he rarely sits in the sweet spot. Maybe he is on to something as to how we evaluate are system's performance.

Definitely gave me some food for thought.
