Hi Paul,

Ok, then are you using a Custom filter ?
137  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Dead in the water... on: May 09, 2016, 02:09:49 am
Hi Paul,

Peter is probably sleeping at this time, but I will suggest you to do a few things just to be sure that the settings are right for the NOS1a...

First, can you check what the Phasure driver is showing ? I don't know howto call it, maybe the Phasure control panel that indicates the current streaming status (at the bottom right of the screen there should be a small yellow "W") ?

Maybe the FE instead (Formula "Electric") Wink ?

Hi Mani,

Are you sure that you would need a DAC compatible with Linux to work ? Isn't a dac OS agnostic ? For formats like PCM and/or DSD ok, but not an OS ? scratching

140  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: How to install Tidal in the Music Server Pc on: April 10, 2016, 08:46:14 pm
Hi Juan,

Tidal support started with version 2.03, so the latest (v 2.04) will be fine Happy

Something was corrected after v 2.04 (it is called v 2.04c), so you should download and extract v 2.04 first, then download and extract v 2.04c over it. The version 2.04c has only the files that had to be changed over v 2.04...

Hi Juan,

If I finally happen to put it in practice one day, I will use a linear power supply with a voltage controller to control the CPU fans (at least) Happy

Isn't it possible to power the fan(s) voltage controller with an external source ? A linear power supply or a switching power supply ?

Peter,

Thanks on behalf of Mr Anonymous. He is telling me that he should send his NOS1 to have it upgraded, then he will make an order for a B'ass (#2). Damn conservative he is Wink

Peter,

For someone (I will not name him Wink) that uses a preamp, does the B'ass and/or that preamp become redundant ?

Peter,

You bet I can imagine how much code is behind XXHE... Surely more complicated than typing a line code to display "Hello World" Wink

All is fine as I learn how to do things. Aren't we supposed to be one of the best adaptable being in existence... Happy

Kind regards,

Alain
146  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHE: 2.05 Xtweaks on: March 28, 2016, 04:09:10 pm
Peter,

Of course I understand the need to Apply each time I change some Xtweaks and then I right-click on STOP to attach the os-ram drive and save the settings, then reboot (that saves the settings again, so I think that my first "Save Settings" is overkill).

I did the test before writing, to not ask something obvious Happy

Still, the value is kept as per my example (nervous rate will show "(60)" at next reboot, but the value will be "1" in the box where we can type the value we want...

So my question about pressing each time "Apply", even if I haven't done any change since last reboot...

I have done another test since: I brought back the Win 10 build 10586.0 BASE disk and done the Apply to see if next time it will show my last change... It does save the nervous rate this time (I did it in Minimized OS).

So my understanding is that some settings are saved in RAM OS, but not all Wink And of course, I am not talking about changing the buffer (like 8 to 4ms in the XXHE control panel, from the driver - that needs to be done with the BASE disk).

I'm fine with this, as long as I know Happy

Regards,

Alain

147  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXHE: 2.05 Xtweaks on: March 28, 2016, 02:39:18 pm
Hi Peter,

This question probably has already been asked somewhere, sometime...

It happens that Xtweaks have a different value between parenthesis than the one that we entered in a previous session. Ex: Nervous Rate indicates "(60)" while I have selected "1" before.

Do I need then to press the "Apply" button to really put the Nervous Rate to 1 ?

Thanks,

Alain
148  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXHE 2.05 with os-ram drive, minimized os, win 10 b. 10586: "Stop All Services" on: March 24, 2016, 10:38:47 pm
Hi Peter,

I thought (wrongly it seems) that it was possible to select "Stop All Services" and use the RDC between plays. As I have tested it (see the topic title), once it is selected, I can start a session with RDC ON, but I can't access the Audio PC after (need to reboot).

So it's not really a question, but a suggestion...

Is it possible to restart the RDC once the play session is done, even if the "Stop All Services" is active for a next XXHE version ?

Unless it is already possible, but I do not have the right sequence of things...

Alain
149  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Network storage on: March 04, 2016, 08:18:25 pm
Hi Bert,

I have 2 network cards on my Music server PC.

- The wired one is connected to the Audio PC
- The second one is wireless (USB connected), accessing my router (internet).

This way, I can use my Music to access internet, do whatever I need to do, and I can also access the Audio PC with the wired connection (through RDC).

And as Anthony (aka acg) mentioned, there is no need for a special network cable to link the Music server to the Audio PC, since the moden network cards are intelligent enough to invert one side (output > input) so a "cross feed" (or "cross link" cable) is now obsolete. But you can of course use a cross feed cable if you wish Happy

Alain

That has been my complaint about MS different versions of Windows... I remember trying to find the "Add/Suppress" in Control Panel, to discover that it was not called "Programs and Features" (when I switched from XP to Win 7)... This is just an example of the situations that many encounter with each new version.

My mother-in-law that I find extraordinary for working with Windows is in a part of her life where changing from Windows 7 to either Win 8 or 10 would be a show stopper... And they tell us that the new versions are more intuitive...

For me it looks more like marketing bull than anything else...
