With the removal of the Garbage Collection, it seems to stop giving this warning. And as Peter mentioned, if the PC is adjusted too slow, it can trigger releated problems. Sometimes, if the CPU ratio goes too low, the clock may show values like 170mhz and the PC is much too slow. When I bring it back to 1.2ghz, the PC is much more responsive. Evn so, the message was still appearing but now with Garbage Collection OFF, all is fine. Thanks Peter  Alain |

Hi Peter, You are right. My machine is slow when I choose 43 for the balanced settings and leave the "Provide Stable Power" at 0 (If I change this to 1 the CPU throttles at its maximum: 1.2ghz (as I have adjusted it a long time ago at a ratio of 12 (I think)). I will try different combinations to see when if does this and when it stops... I should have told you that I was working in Attended mode. The freeMem.bat is related to that hibernate thing with this build. Inside it I see: echo off powercfg -h Off Unless I am mistaken, it is with the latest "small" win 10 B14393.0 download ? Peter,
Is there something special that would trigger this ? For the moment, I haven't "harvested" information about it. It appears when I press PLAY.
Minimized, attended, RAM mode, with almost same settings (as yours) (tweaks and Qs)... Arc Prediction, x16...
If there is something I need to send that may be of help...

Hi Alain, in your case the Intona has cut the ground loop by providing galvanic isolation - that's exactly what galvanic isolation means. Galvanic isolation does not necessarily lead to noise reduction - a common misconception. (But if you're using an isolation transformer, it probably does cut HF noise - unfortunately, it'll kill transients in the music too. This has been my experience anyway.)
Now looking at my iFi DAC graphs (not the NOS1a, because there's no with/without Intona), it's clear that the Intona is cutting noise, as well as providing galvanic isolation. So to my mind, the Intona does more than just providing galvanic isolation. Maybe some of what it does is actually destructive to the sound? Robocop seams to hear this, but for me it's exactly the opposite. To me, the Intona cleans things up, making music sound simply more realistic.
Anyway, this has inspired me to test things further with the NOS1a, with and without the Intona. I'll capture some digital black files and also a couple of 1kHz @-90dB files. If anyone can think of any other tests I could perform, just let me know.

Hi Mani, Thanks for the precision and the additional graphs The comparison with and without Intona with the NOS1a seems to show very little differences... I am not at home presently but hope to be able to do some listening comparisons. I still have to verify what will happen with that previous ground loop... Alain |

Thanks for these graphs - very interesting !
For what I understood when I got the Intona:
- Cut noise with galvanic isolation.
- Also cut a possible ground loop (and I was able to verify that because I was having one before my upgrade to NOS1a).
Nothing technical about what I am saying but if the Intona is helping with cutting noise, maybe with build 14393 what we interpret as "very accurate" or "sharp" is not really about that and it turns a good thing into something else...

Hi Robert,
I will do the suggested test as soon as I will have the occasion (probably somewhere this coming week-end).
I actually am using a Sotm PCIe USB card, with the 5V provided by a linear PSU for the Intona. I can't say if that config is improving things but I can at least say that the sound is softer than the Silverstone.
I am from the school of thought where simpler is better too. What bugs me is that since a PC is a "noise box", maybe the inconvenience of 2 connections could sometimes overcome the inconvenience from the noisy PC, but I know that other components, potential ground loops and other situations also are to be accounted in the results that each of us hear.

I was using the High filter 705600/768000 / 4.14%. Changing it to the High filter 705600/768000 / 3.72.0% seems to make the highs smoother besides a larger soundstage. Not sure yet if it solves the problem but I'm afraid that not totally.

Interesting I have tried the custom filters a few times but I am unsure of the results. When I do not perceive enough differences (my hearing is not that good), I tend to go back to AP (Arc Prediction) alone... Maybe I should try the custom filtering more often... Alain |

I was thinking something like this too. The first days can be exciting but after a while, some aspects can be a little too "sharp" (of "fresh" like you use to say Peter). For me it reflects in voices with a small "roar" as if the microphone was in the person's mouth (strange image, but...).
I realize that differences with a new version can sound appealing at first, then can become irritating. The "Silverstone" sound is a very good example.
Win 10 build 10586 seems to be the "natural" one - something like a "reference". Windows 8 (it is probable that I am one the the very few that still uses it sometimes) is a little less natural in the HF but it makes wonders in the LF, even if I find the differences less obvious (LF wise) with Win 10 build 10586.
What I find interesting is that these different versions alter the sound (or should we say the path and processing or the signal) enough to make things sound different, even if this was said many times.

I am sorry, I did not read the time correctly... What I was talking about took place somewhere in the very beginning of Windows 10, but nothing of the order that would prevent anyone from playing in Minimized OS.

Hi Peter,
If I recall correctly, there were problems with display when using Win 10 build 10074 in Min OS (the icons were disappearing under certain conditions, but it was not preventing XXHE from doing its magic).
But I barely remember these times - so many things have happened in one year and a half...
