526  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Dexa Clocks & Q5=1 Double Whammy on: January 13, 2014, 12:22:16 am
Hi Nick,

I read many people adding "with my equipment, my ears" when they express their impressions with settings or after applying a tweak...

Since you have modified many things (clocks for instance), I suppose that this explains the differences that you experience with XXHE settings ?

Regards,

Alain
Edit: Sorry if my question sounds "obvious"...
527  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Core appointment lock to 100% CPU on: January 12, 2014, 10:52:56 pm
Gerard,

I sure wanted to refer to that  "chocolate" earlier in the topic ...
But not many outside of Holland would understand.

Peter

Google is your friend Wink
...
I cannot make chocolate of it (litterally translated Dutch saying, meaning I don't understand it)...

Hi Leo,

I experienced a similar problem (for the first time). Got the "Contact Phasure". I did not want to talk to Peter Wink So I asked for a new activation code and it worked that time.

Hope this helps Happy

Alain
Edit: I could be wrong, but I don't think that copying the .dat file works, even if it seems to allow some functions to work (that normally don't while not activated)...

Sorry to have "demonized" you Peter Wink

I have tried, tried and tried with the Sabertooth. The lowest I could come with was around 960mhz, but the computer would refuse to start... At least there is an automatic recovery that allows me to go again in Bios after I press the power button at least once, but I must say that after a couple of hours, I was less and less motivated... Finally I managed for the good old 1.2ghz, with the memory at 1333mhz... I am beginning to think there is something special about the Asrock that allows these very low values, or I would need to find the right combination... Or should I say, the right place on the net for underclocking. There are lots of overclocking tips, but the reverse situation ? Not that much...

OK, so I put you back in the St-Peter status Wink

Anthony,

So this means that when I see 1.2ghz with hyuperthread on, that means that each core is beating at 600mhz ?

If that is the trick, I will then say "Ah ! Peter !!!!"  evil

531  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 1.186, best ever! (Again) on: January 02, 2014, 05:30:54 pm
It took me some time before I could really do some tests. I played with Q3 mostly, leaving most of the rest like Peter has them.

I sense more speed, more "tone" to the cymbals and a sense of presence, "Analog" like I never heard before. Each time a new version is available, it is a surprise, so I will say that I am not surprised to be surprised Wink

I will familiarize myself with the new settings, but what I hear now is more than I would have imagined.

I have lots of adjectives to describe Peter's work, but he knows we know Happy

Thanks for a great "tour de force" again Peter. I have never listened so much to the same albums and felt inclined to discover what I thought I knew well !

Regards,

Alain

Paul,

I think that bert means to click the "Don't do anything with Cover Art" to let the Cover Art display. If XXHE is activated, then the frame of the Cover Art will be red when you play a song. After that, you can deactivate the Cover Art again and you will be able to see the red display as expected.

Now I remember that is how I got the expected info in red...

Thank you Alain.
But do you indeed mean that previously your settings were preserved ?
Well, the last version (9z-9b) was replaced with 9z-9d and this was a long time ago. I am used to verify/set my parameters in a very short time...

unhappy
Alain
Edit: I am not really helpful...
534  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Red Letters on: January 01, 2014, 06:48:24 pm
A maybe related question :

Did you (or Alain) perhaps notice that Settings had all to be re-entered (hence were not preserved) which never has been necessary (were preserved) previously ? I mean, in the final minutes before uploading yesterday I saw such a thing myself and it seemed od to me.

So, did something went different from previous times ?

Thanks,
Peter
I had to enter all my settings again yes, but I interpreted this as a change in the way parameters would eventually be taken in account for the next versions... But I thought of this like a programmer...

Peter,

I experienced something similar yesterday, but I was so impatient that I concluded I was doing something wrong... The identification of the location (path) in the upper left was staying blue, but I could go in Minimized OS.

Then I asked for Activation after trying the 4-5 activation keys that I keep (...), but it was staying blue... With the latest activation, it turned red AFTER going in Minimize OS. Back in Normal OS, it stayed red also.

But I still suppose I was too "speedy" to do it correctly...

Hi Paul,

Well I discover how clocks are everywhere and they interact with each other... I never really read this anywhere else than here, at least for the first time. It is important indeed...

Couldn't we have our "Big Ben" super clock for all USB ports Happy Let's wish for the best !

Yesterday, someone came to change the analog electrical counter for a new, wireless one. I am less convinced about the outcomes of the wireless things, but (it could be expectation bias) I sense there is something in SQ that is better... ????

Hi Paul,

This seems to confirm that a PC is a bad place to be for a sensitive device and that it would make sense to have some "modular" approach in terms of physical isolation... Not really the way a mobo nor a pc case is really made for...

But it sure is interesting Happy

No problem Peter. I ordered the Silverstone card - the first PCIe standard USB card I have since I got my music pc (the 2 I have are the Sotm USB PCIe card and the PP v2 USB PCIe card... Of course, I do not leave each of them in the pc - just one at a time...

Peter, sorry to arrive late in the party, but as I understand, you are able to have the Silverstone USB card to work without having the molex connected ?
