736  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Water cooled/W8 Power Options/Start Up Issue on: July 06, 2013, 06:36:27 pm
HI Boleary,

I wonder if there is a way (through BIOS) to deactivate the keyboard behavior ? This looks like something is monitoring peripherals - much like "Wake from network" or such...

I also wonder if there is something that can trigger the water pump automatically at startup ? Like the 12 volt trigger that we see on some components...

Alain

I wrote to Corning, asking “I would like to know if, as an optical transmitting device, this eliminates the frequency spectrum that USB 3 cables are emitting while transferring ?”.

While they attached a technical paper from Intel about "USB 3.0* Radio Frequency Interference Impact on 2.4 GHz Wireless Devices
(White Paper, April 2012), they also added this:

"We see from Intel’s April 2012 white paper that noise can radiate from the USB 3 peripheral device, the cable, & the PC.  While the transmission in our cable takes place over 2 fibers, our cable also contains 2 copper conductors for power."

I guess this means that there are also copper cables...

Alain, you talk like I made a mistake ?

So yes, 2.25 / 5 = 0.45.
Of course not Grin Many years ago, I did not know the relation between the wattage, the power and the output Happy It was more an explanation for others...

But depending on the cost of a simple optical cable, I would still be interested in trying one... Just for fun of course, as long as I don't have to renegociate my mortgage...

Hi George,

I was not aware of this toolkit - but thanks !

In the meantime, I do have 2 ramdrives as presented by Peter - one being for playback and one for XXHE and xxdata. As of yet, I haven't done anything about data recuperation, so nothing is saved between reboots since all sits in ram and I have concerns about what to recuperate without risking to generate errors...

I am preparing a batch file with a little documentation to allow for ramdrive creation. As of now, it will be minimalist, with space for improvement through time.

I will do this in the following times and post it in the "Playback Tweaks" category. Sorry if it takes some time though, because doing something for myself and suggesting it to others has its limitations (...).

Regards,

Alain

If I recall this correctly, to know about the amperage, we need to know the voltage and the wattage: dividing the wattage (2.25w) by the voltage (5v) should then be .45 amps ?

V * A = W
W / V = A
W / A = V

As long as it is simple, I understand Wink

I don't know where I took that a device could be powered by the Corning optical USB cable... It's kind of confusing since they mention in their FAQs that as long as a peripheral does not require more than 2.25 watts, it will power that peripheral, but I guess that 2.25 watts reduces the choices...

Alain

Edit: 2.25 watts (thanks Jud). I will take my morning coffee now, maybe it will help me to read better Wink
Edit 2: "to make the light go faster" Ha ! Happy

Hi Maxi,

I can't tell if adding 2GB of ram will improve SQ, but it would probably not make things worse Happy

I have set my ramdrive at 2GB (I have 16GB ram), but I do not put a lot of music in a row. Of course, this is just me, but all depends on how a person prefers to play his music Happy

Hi Stanley,

I think Imdisk can do the same, but I haven't explored this aspect of things yet. I took a different path with a batch file that creates the ramdrives each time I boot. But I have to click on the batch file each time... It can also be put in the Task Scheduler...

Alain
744  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / RAMDisk disappears while going into MinOS on: June 27, 2013, 10:54:08 pm
Hi Stanley,

I hope I got the question correctly... Since the ramdisk is in memory (ram), it needs to be re-created each time the pc is booted... Since Minimize OS requires a reboot, you will have to create your 2 drives again and copy XXHE and XXDATA as you did the first time...

It also means that if you modify any parameter in XXHE while using the copy in the ramdrive, you will have to copy back XXHE over the original folder (on the physical drive) and (I guess) XXDATA also...

There are different scenarios that can be prepared to spare you the trouble each time. One of them could be a "batch" file...

Maybe a thread for this could be started (Peter ?) Happy

Alain

Thanks Peter Happy

Have I mentionned somewhere (I am not sure) that since I felt the sound was not good (with the S3B), I trie connecting it between  my external music hard drive and the PC ? This was an attempt to make it useful... But I finally agreed that it was not (useful for me), so I decided to return it...

I had always tried to apply the simplest path between 2 components, but nowadays (with the SMPS), it can get complicated...

From what I see now, a "almost perfect" decicated music PC should have different power supplies, have a simpler operating system, isolated sections (physically and electronically)... Maybe 2 CPUs - one for peripheral operations and one aimed at audio and audio only ?... I am thinking loud...

But to "all" have the same pc could be a nice thing... Even if I feel this would be controversial...

I use an analog shaver. Low jitter.
I hope your shaver is bit perfect, otherwise you could have some cuts Wink

Yes I know... I still read some people seem to praise Adnaco (re: Jplay forum)... Did I or do they miss something ? Unless they are not talking about the S3B...

Well yes.. I mean no Wink The noise incoming through the signal (data) path has to be taken care of - of course... But at least nothing would add "between" components no ?

The noise will always need to be cut from the start, or "filtered"...

Hi Nick,

You put a smile on my face Wink I imagine my power company asking me if I am interested in an audiophile power grid, with a few dollars more per month Happy

I would surely answer "yes" Wink
