I don't know where I took that, but I always shut the hibernation mode off...

Hi Juan,

I also heard about this. "leave all on" thing. I don't really have a reason not to leave it on all the time, but I don't have a reason for the contrary neither. So I shut it off at night or when I leave for many hours (or on vacation). But that's just me.

Is it really a matter of SQ ? I know that some components require between a few minutes to a few hours to stabilize, but is it the case with a PC ?

Or is it a matter of practicality ?

Alain

After it was mentioned that sometimes Imdisk (ramdrive) does not disappear after a shutdown, I looked around and found this article at this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/olivnie/archive/2012/12/14/windows-8-fast-boot.aspx

I have not checked yet where this is available, if it is by default, or if we have to trigger it ourself.

I can't tell either if this could explain about Imdisk...

I just tried it... It works ok, but unless I would have something odd in the BIOS (I don't recall touching anything like this, apart from attempting to slowdown the CPU) to let the A and B drives be seen or not... I see the drive that I create. I guess it should when used...

Of course, the icon that I see in the explorer window shows a drive with a "floppy". This could tell us that not much has been done about these 2 drives through time and it could in effect be a good thing.

With Windows 8, I am not always sure that the OS is booting like the previous versions... What I understand is that W8 could sometimes restart, but not up to the POST that we normally see ? This could explain the imdisk ramdrive still there ?

I don't know if I have it right, but of course, when you alter the content in one window, it can affect what we see in another ?

So drives like A and B (that were "reserved" for "floppy drives") could have a quieter behavior ?

? Could you have an explanation about how a drive letter would alter SQ ? Wink

Hi Juan,

There are so many factors that can explain the different situations when sound is either low or loud... I can only express that depending on the ambient noise and the fact that our hearing will be less sensitive to high frequencies at low volume (and other factors), it would be normal that there would be a loss of details (I think). This was in fact the reason the "Loudness" button was introduced if I am right...

Hi Peter,

I do not experience this here, but I use a preamp for the volume and I shut everything each day (except the preamp maybe). I am too conservative I guess...

Happy Fantastic ! I want one ! I guess the transmission is asynch, the consumption 24 bits per 768 khz and the transients can do 0-100 in a wink Happy

Cool !

Wink  Now I understand why someone commented "Fart price ?" after...

There are not much details about how it would be implemented, but I hope this involves some kind of isolation against noise from the PC...

It makes me think about the Adnaco... Did yoy have the chance to make some tests with the Adnaco (the S3B if I recall correctly) ?

I read this through CA today. Seems interesting !

http://www.slashgear.com/optical-cables-by-corning-brings-thunderbolt-cables-to-the-budget-crowd-07263926/

The article talks about Thunderbolt, but also USB 3 optical cables.

" If Thunderbolt ports aren’t your thing at the moment, don’t worry because Corning also has full USB 3.0 options available as well. Corning and Optical Cables states Thunderbolt will be available in lengths of 12ft, 18ft, 10m, 30m, 50m and 100m (last is longest available) while USB 3.0 will come in 5.5m, 10m, 15m and 30m. As fart as pricing is concerned, we aren’t sure at the moment. Corning stated that they’ll be releasing further pricing details soon, as well as their respective retail partners. "

I agree with Juan and that was my aim: to have a powerful power supply that would not "work hard" so less heat and less chances that the power supply fan would start.

As for the memory, I can't comment, since I don't know if having 4 x 4GB (like I have) vs 4 x 8GB ram would make a difference in power demand...

Hi Alain, it wasn't the case with W7 but does indeed seem to be the case with W8:

Mani.
Thanks Mani Happy It seems that this is the part where it confirms that we can move our OEM license to another computer:

Quote
Can I transfer the software to another computer or user? You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software (together with the license) to a computer owned by someone else if a) you are the first licensed user of the software and b) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. To make that transfer, you must transfer the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to that other person, without retaining any copies of the software. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Anytime you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between computers. You may transfer Get Genuine Windows software, Pro Pack or Media Center Pack software only together with the licensed computer.
It seems that Microsoft is changing for "MicroSOFTER" Wink

Hi Mani,

I have always thought that an OEM license meant that it can't be moved to another motherboard ? It is surely possible to do it, but has that restriction been lifted with a new policy from Microsoft ?
