1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Strange Window behavior on: September 21, 2013, 07:26:28 pm
Peter,

no way that I get out of this just by clicking or scrolling. I tried everything, no presets loaded, no way to scroll or grab anything else than visible in that window.

Can I delete any preset file and copy it from a stick where I have made a backup of a working status (for instance the xxdata folder?) What would I have to delete manualy and re-copy?

Or can I make a new install without having booted back to normal OS mode beforehand?

Thanks Carsten

Dear all,

hope for some support, because I ran into a strange behavior of XXHE this morning after a nice listening session yesterday. All went well yesterday, shut down the PC normally, but when starting it up this morning, I could not maneouver or scroll over in the normal XX window. Just got stuck with the status as shown in the screenshot. Would reinstall, but need to un_minimize first, but I donīt have access to this section any more... Could be I am too dump to use a normal Win7 window?!

Thanks

Carsten
3  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Running Win8, XXHE shows 32bit WinXT on: August 15, 2013, 07:22:28 pm
Thanks Peter,

yes, it goes back to reading Win8 when booting into normal and is ok when then booting into MinOS. So it seems to be all ok.

Just sometimes Win8 shell comes up unintended, running the Win7Shell program again brings back Win7, so I hope everything is ok.

Is it correct, that the task manager shows all programs of XXHE (XXHE, Engine 3, HKey) as 32 bit?

Thanks Carsten
4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Running Win8, XXHE shows 32bit WinXT on: August 14, 2013, 08:34:15 pm
Dear all,

more strange things on my end... or maybe quiet normal?

I have a clean install of Win 8 on a 64 bit machine, activated XXHE, run the Win7 shell, but XXHE says its running on 32bit WinXt...

Any idea? I think I saw Win8 in XXHE yesterday... And the Metro shell came back on after rebooting (computer shut down due to battery draining last night...)

Thanks Carsten

Ok, understood.

I got everything activated now and can start listening seriously to some music. Looking forward to reporting on Win8 experiences one day,

best and thanks to all

Peter, thanx for the help,

I got it all done, finally, but then something strange happened (and it happened twice!):

I deleted the program and the XXdata folder, got it all newly extracted, got a new activation key and after following precisely the activation procedure, finally the title bar of XXHE went orange! Yes, I got it all done, I thought. But then I copied my presets files to the XXdata folder (because the program seems to not let me load it from another folder butXXdata?!), and then the title bar went back to blue (and so did I...). And it happened twice, exaxtly the same way. Strange?

Thanks Carsten

OK, I have made some progress here...

Win7 shell is activated now, thatīs good. So I am getting closer...

Just the activation thing still bugs me. Now with Win 7 shell, I can see the coverart in attended mode, but onlythe one of the first music ever played. As soon as I stop that track and switch to a different one, it will always just show the coverart of the first album played... And, of course, not in red bars, but in that yellow-greyish coulor...

getting desperate, but keep trying! Any help appreciated!

Cheers Carsten

hmm, strange, thanks for the hintt, I donīt see coverart even in attended mode, only when minimizing the program to the icon attached to the start bar, I can see a little window with the cover art picture and the title structure, otherwise it stays the XXHighend program on display... and when closing XX, the screen is black and the original background is gone...

Thanks for the help, George, but I have re-tried it now several times, also with the coverArt settings as you pointed out, and I am not getting to get the titlebar of the program window turning into orange. I am following exactly the steps as given in the activation email.

I cannot judge the wallpaper since Win8 is not showing wallpaper, right?

Thanks Carsten
10  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Win8 Activation Problems, Win7 Shell on: August 13, 2013, 09:26:19 am
Dear all,

after longer absence from my favourite hobby for business reasons, I had reserved some time during summer break to set up my music system with a new HDD to setup Win8 and see how it performs.

But I am already struggling to get XXHighend properly activated.

I have tried it now various times, following precisely the procedure as given in the activation email, but I dontget the title bar in orange. This was always a sign that something still is wrong. I do have access to the core appointment scheme slider, so no more undemo message there, butno orange title bar.

Any idea where to look after?

It should work even without the Win7 Shell thing, right?

Here I am facing the problem that my computer had a preinstalled Win7 system and I do not have the original CD/DVD. I bought an upgrade for Win8 in January, and I made a clean install of Win8 with that on top of the Win7 system (format drive). I still have another computer with Win 7 running (or could put the old HDD back in) to manually access the files that the Win7 shell is looking for (explorer.exe, explorer.exe.mui, others?) but I am having a hard time really figuring  that out. (I get a black screen with just the cursor on it, meaning that the .mui file was not properly place /loaded?)

Is there another way to get this done?

Oh man, I thought I could enjoy some music still in summer, but I fear I am running out of time...

Any help very, very much appreciated

Best Carsten

Problem solved.

Tried almost everything (reinstalling all drivers for bootcamp, graphics etc), did not change anything. Underclocking / overclocking also no changes.
My problem stem from a limited power supply to the Laptop (I finally should go for a real PC...). Contrary to some advice, I have then simply tried the energy saving mode and twiggled a little bit within to minimize power consumption and -yep!- it works now perfectly with the ultimate tweaks.

Re-check monitor pwr settings, put them on max, if there is dim option turn it off. All before going to min OS.

Thanks for the help, George;

I tried all advanced power settings, but nothing changes the situation so far.

I keep searching, Carsten

Maybe I can post here everything I have tried up to now, although without success, but it seems to be related (sort of?) to this topic.

When booting into MinOS Ultimate, my Macbook dims the brightness of the display down completely, and sometimes I am able to bring it back to 10% or so with the buttons on the keyboard.
The energy options are blocked, no access, regardless of the energy options I preset in NormalOS mode (high performance usually).

It seems like the system tries to save energy that is needed fo the processors, in order not to exceed the capacity of the power supply unit.

So I tried to underclock the system, although the Macbook having no Bios, I found a nice freeware program called Throttlestop that allows for monitoring the cores as well as changing clock modulation.
But even with very low core frequencies, no changes in the brightness behaviour, to the contrary, it even didnt let me push it up to the 10%. But starting Win7 in safe mode always allows me to change back to Normal OS via XXHE.
It seems that either the Intel i7 chipset or my system (Bootcamp divrers for running WIn7 on a Mac) have a build-in throttle to limit energy consumption, but it is not directly related to processor clocking.

Maybe that helps, if somebody has a clue how to proceed, help is appreciated.

In the meantime I can play with 8.3a in Ultimate OS mode, but with a very shallow display XXHE is no fun.

Peter,

I guess my problem has to do with my operating system software and is totally (or more or less) unrelated to XXHighend, it looks like it just by coincedence occured yesterday with the upgrade to 8.3a.

You were right, it has to do with the energy options.
I will try to solve it one of these days, so far I can live with the workaround.

Thanks Carsten

I would prefer this not being the standard procedure (and I donīt remember the keys any longer...), my wife would be lost in operating it and I still like her to be able to run the show when I am abroad (although I have bought a CD transport lately to ease up for her...)

So, if you have any idea how to get back to normal I would appreciate. Thanks Carsten
