61  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: How .9u Sounds on: February 19, 2008, 10:49:43 am
And Andrey,

Also, please tell me :
With what DAC do you have this bad sensation ? and what are your settings according to "DAC is" and "DAC needs" ? Also, at which Volume setting ?
I couldn't derive this from your post ... If it's the -0dB setting as you told in the other topic, I don't understand (yet Happy). In that case (-0dB), please try to help me with what could have happened.

I tried it all with -0dB: I didn't want to change anything to compare with t version.
So mostly I am talking about -0dB.

Then I have the same "sensation" on both my setups.

1. A very cheap noname USB sound adapter, which supports only 16 bit 44.1/48kHz
2. ESI Juli@ The card uses an 8-channel multibit 24-bit 192 kHz DAC AKM AK4358.

I tried 16/44.1 and 24/44.1 dac setting for julia.
And I noticed a little difference with 24/44.1, it sounded a bit smoother to me than default 16/44.1 but still not as "painless" Happy as 0.9t

What do you mean by "cope with nos DAC", don't understand.

P.S. visiting the hospital. that was a good one Happy

Hi,

I have to insist, that I really feel physical discomfort with this new sound. As if something is wrong in digital domain.
Or a bad jitter.

I admit there is more details now and such... I agree with all described by now.
Except that I feel that weird again as if I listen to a jittery CD. Although I don't get paranoid Happy it is just not right somehow.

Could we ask Carlos Rodríguez, what does he think.

Simply put it makes the loud part sound lower and еоу lower part sound louder. It seems like more detail:)
But of course it is DSPing which I don't expect from XX. So as I said it just reminded me the effect of it.

Andrey,

Quote
If I set its speakers interface as a default device in Vista Then I see XX engine 3 in the Vista Mixer, The Vista master volume affects the volume of the music.

Ok, so far I never saw (or heard of) the situation that loudspeakers connected to a soundcard could incur for "Exclusive Mode" (whatever that exactly is in this stage of "investigation").
Can you confirm dat this worked the same in 0.9t ?
Also, I assume you don't get any messages at the start of Playback ?

Yes it was the same with previous versions.

Lastly for now, do note that the situation exists that no volume amplitude information (the green bar) shows, BUT you can still switch off the volume with the bottom button (a red circle appears then). I never tested the true merits of that situation, but it sure is fishy. By me proven bit perfect situations can never switch off the volume.

Anyway if you can influence the volume with the master volume slider, I'll bet it's not bit perfect.

Have you seen XMplayer with WASAPI plugin. It locks my speakers interface as well as SPDIF for exclusive mode perfectly.
I don't think it beats SQ of XX but the exclusive mode it implements in a way differently.

At first it seems to me as a dynamic range compressor effect.
66  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Volume and bit perfect setting ? on: February 18, 2008, 02:38:52 pm
I have a PCI audio card.

1. If I set its speakers interface as a default device in Vista Then I see XX engine 3 in the Vista Mixer, The Vista master volume affects the volume of the music.

2. If I use SPDIF interface a default device, then I don't see XX in the mixer, the vista volume control does not affect the music.

In both cases XX does not complain about exclusive mode. And in first case there is no sound level indicators activity in the Vista mixer while playing.

Is it bitperfect in the first case if I set the volume control at max?
How can record what is coming out to compare to the source?

67  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Volume and bit perfect setting ? on: February 18, 2008, 09:44:24 am
Hi Peter,

Thanks for the new version.
I have a question:

With the digital volume control what setting is bitperfect? 0db?

When I set it to 0db I have that sensation which I always have if a volume is changed in a digital domain.
So I suspect that with digital volume control is not bit perfect.

Hi Peter,

Suppose I want to do the following:

I have one album that I want to listen for couple of days.
Listen to couple of songs then (please note not "than") stop it and turn off my PC.
Then after a awhile turn it back on and continue with listening. And when the album ends I want it to play again from the start.

Is it something unpopular to do amongst listeners?

With your current version I cannot achieve this because:

1. When I want to stop and turn it off after a couple of first songs, I have to bring up XX then press stop and exit it. This will ruin my playlist because those first songs are gone for good from the playlist. When I next launch XX the playlist won't have that couple of first songs anymore.

2. I failed to find a feature in XX similar to loop or repeat forever of the playlist.

The SQ is perfect that is no argue for me. But some things I would expect from a simple MP3 player are just not there.

Am I asking too much?
What am I missing?

70  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Vista users, again, prepare yourselves ... on: February 05, 2008, 03:44:23 pm
Guys HELP !!!

I would like to join your exciting expectation of the new version.
But I don't understand what is this all about. Probably my poor English again. unhappy

Can anybody explain to me what are we waiting from 0.9u and most importantly what is this BIG CHANGE? from the technical point of view.
if it is not 24 bit playback then WHAT?
I am completely confused!

Thanks
Andrey
71  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: T7 vs. T5 SQ, T5 seems better in depth/bass etc. on: January 30, 2008, 03:31:01 pm
No SQ change for me with 7t.
I am using unattended. My latest find is thread priority = Normal ("Nothing" is not the same)

BTW sometimes it helps to reboot. When you play one version then change to other version, try rebooting first.

Peter,

I see now. Happy
Then it would be nice to have all of those key combinations and possibilities explained somewhere in a help file.
Or is it described already.

73  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Wishlist XXHighEnd on: January 22, 2008, 12:27:13 pm
Thinkin of it again, in fact the double click wouldn't be much different from usual (that deselecting other stuff which ... I btw now wonder, because I think you could ctrl-doubleclick as well), so I guess I can make it.
Okokokok.

thankyou

I may have misunderstood you again, But I never saw ctrl-doubleclick in media players.
74  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Wishlist XXHighEnd on: January 22, 2008, 11:53:10 am
Hi Peter,

I think that using generic techincs in user interface, that most people are used to, is a right way to go.
Instead of inventing your own key combinations.
Isn't this obvious?

stop  Happy

Btw, could you explain what is so necessary about starting a track with one click or double click instead of one click + Play ? I honestly don't get it.

There is a term in ergonomics. within arm's reach.
It is just more convenient. I prefer always minimize my movements
