Q1=14
xQ1 = 10
SFS = 4.00
ClockRes = 1
Core Assignment 3-5 (this will depend on the processor used)

No one seems to have noticed this reply, but I have tried it and it does lift the bass as you describe. Certainly changes things tonally but dulls the sound slightly. Takes some life out of cymbals and even bass. I think its a backward step worth trying. I need to try different settings myself with SFS.

Unless you have the new Stealth, Bios settings are totally in your hands especially regarding individual hardware. I've been using the old XXHE computer Bios settings but my computer only has 4 cores, 8 threads.

In the light of changing Bios settings I hope I've solved a problem. As a result of the sound being so good I can't not listen to 2.07. I played the latest St Germain - St Germain 24/44, wow detail and bass not heard before. In fact probably need to rework my subs now.

Thanks for the Refresh button activation point.

I have reversed my Bios CPU core setting back to Auto but disabled Turbo to see if that makes a difference to skipping issue(24/96/192). Perhaps my computer is running light on cores and power. Anyway it seems to be working for hires files.

I compared the latest HQ player(Trial) and wtfplay(Linux) with XXhighend and boy was the difference massive. Noticeable immediately. No competition for 2.07.

The best sound I have ever had from my computer this latest XXhighend 2.07!!!

Ramesh, yes I did that to reset the Timer/Timing settings after install and it worked perfectly. I'm just not sure about resetting Refresh in Xxhighend while playing albums or songs when listening. Or when resetting at install this is all that's required.

Hi Happy New Year,
                          Well I have downloaded 2.07 upgrade patch and after several restarts its going ok so far. Still some 24/96/192 albums skipping in some tracks when I load the whole album. If I load single tracks it doesn't skip.

For the RAM-OS Disk and booting from RAM, the Timer settings could not be applied previously. Now they can. In order to let this work, apply this (you 'll need to do this one time only, but for each OS you boot from RAM) :

This is working for me, but I have a question.

Do I have to reset "Refresh and Apply buttons in Timer settings" everytime I play a new album in Ram OS? I notice when an album is cleared after listening the settings show they are not set?

Otherwise 2.07 sounds great and a definite improvement. I have left Intona in the circuit for now.

Mani,
       Cars, boats and Hi-Fi are not investments, but if you have the money it doesn't matter.

A wealthy retired HiFi retailer in NZ bought a 1 of 20 only made F1 McLaren sports car new for 2 million(1994). I thought gosh at last a car that should maintain its value. The guy only drove it twice as we don't have good roads and he was afraid of other drivers.

He sold the car to an American collector 6 years later and got $800,000 dollars. I guess if he kept it for 30 years it may have gone up in value.

Hoping this will help with your grief Mani!!!

Moving speakers as little as 10mm can make a huge difference. I think we concentrate on all the other stuff and this is often the last thing we consider.

Peter thanks for that was interested in how you did it. Interesting I discovered yesterday flac Hires files don't skip it seems to be only some wave.

Can we look forward to a Christmas present XXhighend 2.07?

Yes everyone has a different setup certainly confuses the issue.

I have put the Intona back and spent some time playing with XXhighend settings to attempt to get the sound I had before 14393.

At the end, I became somewhat confused (too many changes probably) so took the Intona out and reverted to original settings for 14393.

I also want to attempt to optimise XXhighend settings for my computer something I have never attempted.

175  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / How to compare XXhighend Settings on: November 30, 2016, 10:13:04 pm
Peter,

I have some questions re this as I can't find anything in these forums to confirm what I'm doing.

In my quest to enhance my XXhighend version and to try and get Intona to work better in my setup.

When I compare settings in order to listen with minimum time between tracks I set playback to Attended.

I play test track in my normal user settings(Q panel).

Then I will change settings and replay.

Question 1. Can you change settings in the quality(Q) panel as a track is playing?(Tried and doesn't work)

Question 2. Can you change filter settings as a track is playing?(I have tried this and it seems to work)

To minimise time between tracks I only use 16/44(CD) tracks as these load quickly.

Can you recommend anything else to make this an accurate procedure?

Robert

Sorry for a longwinded response.

Never be sorry this is a British thing(I'm Scottish). Its what you feel, you wrote it and it makes sense.

Anyway I wasn't meaning you directly because there are lots with Intona's and NOSa's and to be frank little comment on sound from others lately has been very surprising.

I like 14393.0 but it has had its challenges. I'm still running the settings in my signature. I only have one issue which I have described earlier re some HiRes albums.

Hi all, don't want to upset anybody BUT,

I've just taken the Intona out of the circuit after putting it back in about 8 weeks ago. Well I now think its definitely better sounding out.
I know this is odd but a friend and I compared the CD playback against the upsampled XXhighend playback of the same track's. The CD sounded better and this was at 16/44.

With Intona in, the treble was somewhat flat, less detailed, less impact, bass was ok. I realise I'm running both through the Benchmark, not the NOSa. But I am concerned somewhat how some of you are referencing your sound. My CD playback is through a Cambridge 751 BR player running direct into the Benchmark from the HDMI output. Normally the XXhighend sound easily beats the Cambridge. By removing the Intona XXhighend beat the Cambridge again.
This has only come about through my friend as I never considered comparing actual CD with XXhighend. I thought it wasn't good enough.

I still say even though the Intona does some good things it takes something away.

178  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Leonard Cohen's Old Ideas "Amen" on: November 11, 2016, 10:20:29 pm
Well another music icon leaves us this year. I never listened to him until "Live in London" DVD.

I saw him live at the end of this tour and what a concert of incredible talent. I was stunned by his supporting musicians and singers. I also saw his last concert in Auckland(Nov 2013) which had a slightly different lineup and wasn't quite the same but unforgettable, this was 3 hours long.

Anyway my point, I use "Amen" as one of my top tracks to evaluate audio in fact usually the first. I have both 16/44 and 24/44 versions. Preferring 16/44 to evaluate but listen to the 24/44 for pleasure.

I like this track for its sparseness, clarity, detail and choice of sounds to use for comparison.

I like spikes better than pits.
But I also like spikes better than smooth (which we can dedicate #1).

I agree with this statement.

I listened last evening and through my setup, preferred original #1.

Found other 2 slightly coloured(as you would expect) preferring #3 MachII over #2 for sound.

Would have to say my sound has never been better with current XX settings. Someone is suggesting on CA, CD is still better. Obviously hasn't got XXhighend.

In my case I selected a Hires track (I stopped playback right in advance of that (Unattended that was)), pressed play and ... heard the last few seconds of the previously playing (Redbook) track. I don't recall whether I heard those last few seconds again, but I think that was the case (read : the track played right through the end and did not "forget" its last few seconds to play). Now notice : this has to be about some internal buffer which was not freed or cleared or whatever what caused it to play again, and looking at those "few seconds", in my case this must have been about the Q1 which was at 14 x (Q1x) 10, thus 140. So what happened technically ?

I have had this happen twice when going from 16/44 to 24/96/192 files.

I'm also having issues with some 24/96/192 tracks skipping mid song on some HiRes albums unattended. This does not occur with prior settings Q1 14x10 3,4,5, 1,1,1 SFS .12 Clock res 1ms or in attended mode. These hires files have been tested through another player and work fine. In prior settings some Hires albums only play one track then stop this is connected to low SFS(under 2) as higher SFS works fine.

Sometimes when listening to various single files(mixed 16/44, 24/96) in attended then going to unattended a box comes up which says Proxy not cleared but it goes on to play after ticking box away.

The recent new settings you have proposed do sound much better than the one I mention above.
