Tried changing Clockres from 15 to 10 then 5 then returned to 15ms. 15ms sounded the best with test files. Audible difference between the 3.

Juan great to see a new post. I had my earth disconnected on my computer but noticed clicks when connecting USB cables and was getting small tingles of static electricity from the case(especially when I touched the case with my cheek one day fiddling with cables). I've since reconnected the earth, all fixed.

Interesting you have reduced Clockres to 5ms. I'm about to try that, I have the odd HD 24/96 download that is skipping randomly throughout the album. I'm not convinced its not the download but havn't had skipping in the past on these tracks. This is since I expanded Ram from 15 to 25g but also tried Peter's new settings.

Email Peter and he will send you instructions.

Expanding Ram drive from 15g to 25g works and definitely sounds better.

Those who havn't done this and have 32g Ram do it now.

I've reverted DRAM back to Auto as some 24/96 tracks skipped mid song. Mind you not sure if this was the issue.

New suggested Peter's 14393 settings do work for the better also on page 5 of this thread.

So few comments I wonder what some people are doing!!!!

Gosh that's a nightmare Peter. In sunny New Zealand we have this plug. Only goes in one way, but even in NZ a certain amplifier manufacturer got it wrong polarity wise.

We do have 240volts at 10amps running so have to be careful!!!

No bad feelings intended.

To my knowledge US plugs have 2 blades the same size. Disconnecting earth will still give you a result. But should be reconnected when correct polarity is found.

Reverse the plug if it has 2 pins(black plug photo), otherwise buy an international plug converter(cream plug photo) and reverse that. Don't forget to mark one pin for reference with felt tip pen.

This method is good for checking all component polarities. Amazing how many manufacturers don't bother. Listen one way will have fuller sound, the other leaner.

Peter have you tried, expanding Ram OS from 15g to 25g yet in 14393?

You mentioned 25g being better sounding in 10586.

Also Bios settings have you altered DRAM from Auto? Someone has suggested setting mine to 800 from Auto. This does slow down loading hard to tell if it makes a difference in sound.

Tried your new XX settings so far seems more listenable.  Havn't reversed power polarity. I've had more bass with 14393 anyway but treble has more clarity with 14393 over 10586. Have not removed Intona. I'm trying to listen over a longer period to get used to sound before making changes. Too many changes confused me and lost my way at 14393 introduction.

but how to get a system that sounded like the best analogue

This is quoted all the time. Why use analogue, why not use live instruments in a real acoustic space.

This is so entrenched that even musicians attempt to emulate the so called analogue sound in new recordings, Mark Knopflers latest "Tracker" is an example. Mark admitted this in a release interview.

I recognise this is about a NOS, in a system somewhat emulated from Audionote whose efforts largely priced themselves into the stratosphere. I'm unable to hear the Phasure NOS or your Signature NOS Dac being neither reside in New Zealand at this point in time. I certainly recognise that NOS is a very valid option and top of my list.

Anyway reading your efforts it probably sounds great(whole system) but possibly on the lean/bright side(guessing but I found this with pure silver cables). I certainly agree with just sitting and enjoying music without fiddling with bits and pieces. Unfortunately fiddling can result in a better sound so should never be ruled out. Fun at times.

You could try Xxhighend on a suitable computer(some computer knowledge required). I've compared it to other audio programs(JRiver, Foobar to name 2) and it still comes out on top. My recent comparison was with Daphile(Linux) running sound in Ram. I do fancy a simpler OS but XXhighend easily beat it using latest W10 14393 Ram file.

Quoting a "Linn" phrase nothing ain't more important than your front end: rubbish in rubbish out. Actually formulated from the famous vinyl LP12 era.

Is digital finally making ground now? I hope so.

All we need is more digital HiRes(24/96/192) quality recordings.

I'm back at 14393 with Intona, its my preferred to 10586 now. When I remove Intona the sound stage shrinks somewhat but all the detail is still there and it is more dynamic in presentation. The Intona does seem to open up the treble but it does take something away or mask it.
This is much more noticeable with 14393. I did prefer Intona with 10586.

I have tried Peter's suggested new settings and they do work for the better but the Hires issue comes back with very low SFS(stops playing after one track for me).

It would appear the latest Led Zep remasters are from the original Master tapes which Jimi Page has personally got(He has never verified this but does say he has always had ownership of Led Zepp music/tapes etc). Barry Diament replied to me on a CA forum when these were about to be released May 2014.

Quote
If this in fact is the first time they have been mastered from the original tapes, I'm surprised there was no press about *finding* the original tapes.
When I mastered the original CD releases while at Atlantic (except for IV, which was the first one released and was done out at Warner Brothers in LA), I asked about the original tapes and was told they were "missing" B Diament

Anyway we are left with what we have and I'm over buying different editions. I had the vinyl then CD's then Barry's remasters CD's and now remastered downloads. And now the remastered BBC sessions which I'm not bothering with.

Paul,
Have you tried 14393 yet? Also removing the Intona?

I had the same error but only once after first boot into Ram Os from Base Os. On 2nd and more Ram Os boots it doesn't happen.

Only happens in this situation for me.

Has nobody tried 14393?

Gosh I'm back at 10586 with Intona and its not the same as 14393 without Intona. Have to say I'm very unsettled by it all. Can't help but feel 14393 gives something more that's left me in this position.

The suggestion that Intona may not be right is not what people want to hear. They are busy building new cases for their Intona's(copper foiled, aluminium boxes).

Nobody on CA even mentions this latest W10 version(14393) soundwise?

Is this because we are ahead of the game(whatever that is!!!)

Perhaps everybody's happy with what they hear????

I went back to 10586 without, then with Intona. It does seem easier on the ears. Is improved with Intona I do have to turn up the volume from no Intona.

I do think there is something about 14393 that is more revealing in the treble. In this mode without Intona I have to reduce volume to output the same loudness of music as the 10586 OS.

I will leave 10586 in place for now.

195  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: A bit of testing with the Intona on: August 26, 2016, 11:39:05 pm
Remember the graphs on cables. Are not what we hear.

The actual differences are quite small between Intona and no Intona whether we can hear them is another story.

I can state the Intona does make a difference but how correct is this in our systems.

I do need to go back to 10586 and try Intona.

In reality Intona is designed for industrial setups and no consideration for audio listening. There is a place for using this technology in audio but it needs more work which I guess is what Peter is working on. But ultimately it should be in the DAC and not another box.
