256  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXh203a in 10074 hi res playback issues on: December 08, 2015, 09:35:24 pm
When I play back 16/44 files albums all goes perfectly.

When I playback one Hires(24/96) album all goes well.

When I mix it up say 2 x 16/44 albums then a 24/44/96/192 album XXhighend will stop playing and a box comes up Playback file is full.

I have to hit ctr alt x to bring screen back.

It almost appears that the playback drive is not clearing of former played tracks creating the full warning. I'm unable to check ram drive volume in Min OS playback.

I've tried hitting X and closing XXh and restarting still the same thing happens. The only solution is to reboot computer.

I've set Ram drives to 5g. I've also split some hires albums into 2. But often XXhigh stops after 2 tracks anyway.

This is annoying but not a major problem.

Gosh how do you know it won't sound even better on reboot????

No you have to reboot at some point. Perhaps load a new disc with 10074 and your updated XXhighend and see how that sounds compared to what you have now before rebooting.

Not that I can tell you anything you don't already know.

Good luck, but I'm sure you will solve it. 203a in 10074 is sounding excellent. Still has issues playing mixed files 16/44, 24/92 etc causing XXhighend to stop playing until reboot. I will put this in a new subject.

258  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ XXH 203a with 10074 on: December 05, 2015, 01:30:31 am
After 3 hours of listening its better than 202(bit more detail, treble and bass information). Its a much better integration with W10 and all works faster from cold boot up to playing music.
259  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / SQ XXH 203a with 10074 on: December 04, 2015, 10:24:36 pm
I thought enough of this I will load the new 203a version into 10074 today. I always get a sense of fear when changing anything major like OS or XX. Mostly what starts out simply, turns into a stressful!!! drawn out mission. But not this TIME.

It was the easiest set up yet for XxhighEnd. Everything went to plan perfectly including activation. Gosh I got it right this time.

The sound well hard to say if its an improvement over 202. What I had, with the new silverstone card was the best I've achieved to date.

Will report on this in due course.

I'm loathe to try newer OS versions for now.

In terms of Silverstone USB card which I have recently added for the first time to XXhighend v202 and 10074.

I can't believe the improvement this brings to the music. Definitely more muscial, listenable. This has held me up trying later OS versions and v203a.

In fact I will just add v203a to 10074 next as this should be simple enough.

261  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Build 10074 will not find NAS on: November 25, 2015, 11:33:28 pm
Yes I've had the same issue. I think the NAS(I'm using another computer) needs the same date as the Audio server to network. I could see the NAS when the date was current for both, but 10074 won't work until the date is put back to September. XXhighend was in Min OS. I havn't done anything further as I'm still deciding about updating to 2.03.

Peter perhaps a quick support blog on how one should go about networking with a NAS or other computer with music files.

Also makes me wonder if the artist is so removed from the process she does not know how poor it sounds on a system with good resolution.

Agree, in fact she is not alone quite a number of musicians have no or only an ipod for playback. Playing an instrument or singing is their hobby not playback equipment. I could also add sound engineers both live and studio.

When some hear my system they are staggered that you can in fact get some resemblance of the sound they make that is quite reasonable to listen to.

I know a Cello player who has been in the local orchestra for 20 years and still does not own a stereo. She prefers the real sound she is immersed in and doesn't bother to replicate it in the home. Still with the fact you have the real sound as a reference point you would think the muscian would be consulted as to the recording quality.

I guess Adele is at the whim of the recording company who determine the sound versus max sales return.

I agree with you 10074 is the best and I'm resigned to reset the date which isn't a major. Perhaps you would be better to find the date turnoff software switch and turn it back on in 10074!!!!

Will xxhighend 2.03 work better with 10074, or should one stay with 2.02?

Jud may I suggest you try all things at your own risk. You can always reload it all again. Personally I wouldn't try it Peter is working on a newer version. OS updates have never been part of the plan.

I have changed my SFS to 1/60. I found HDCD files in albums would only play two tracks before stopping.

265  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Silverstone card on: November 10, 2015, 09:44:49 am
Yes, yesterday its the one you all have, EC04-P with the Molex power input. Bought online in NZ for $56NZ at Elive Ltd.

I did insulate it from the mainframe even though I have the Benchmark not the NOS.

Personally I think that earth circuits are troublesome and need more work for Hifi.
266  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Silverstone card on: November 10, 2015, 07:39:09 am
Well I just added the insulated Silverstone USB3 card finally and wow what a difference. Sorry no NOS Dac yet but still a very worthwhile upgrade. Tried Spotify first and that was an improvement. More of everything musically. I've still got other things connected to the computer USB wise.

267  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Using OS from ram on: November 03, 2015, 01:14:38 am
I presume you will be offering this upgrade to anyone on a hard disc?

Have you a cost yet(overseas)?

How long does it take to load into ram and ready to play music?

If one leaves the computer on could you leave OS loaded up for next session?

I do find sometimes I'm forced to reboot OS, as xxhighend becomes unworkable after 2 or more hours of playing and changing albums. This would include a mix from 16/44, 24/96 and 24/192 music files.

I have always found this an issue but as it is rare that I ever get a straight 2 hours or more to listen continuously I have never brought this topic up.

I see you recommend all external USB connections be avoided now for better sound. Does this include internal?

I thought I should reply re Peter's new settings for XXhighend 2.02 if anyone has noticed them yet(in his signature).

I tried them last evening in my setup and found them to be a nice improvement in sound, well worth trying out even though we are about to get an upgrade. Less metallic(bright) on top end notes at volume, but this is recording dependant.

W10074 with XXhighend 2.02 in Min OS with date early September 2015 is working flawlessly for me.

269  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 10074 Doomsday ? then 10240 is there on: October 16, 2015, 08:52:39 am
Kind of predictable but anyway.

Have to say I'm running xxhighend, W10 10074 on a separate drive, no internet, sounds great.

But running W10 latest version with Spotify on another. As much as I struggle with Streaming I have discovered music old and new I never knew existed regardless of the sound. I am running Spotify upsampled to 24/192 on computer. Sounds great. Tidal does not have the music selection. A great new album is St Germain's.

Have to say Peter I heard a friends new Tannoy Canterbury's with a "orrible" Yamaha 11.5 surround amp. But gosh the music flowed. Think we can get hung up on things. Loud speakers are everything!!!!
Let the music flow!!!!

Thanks for trying though, as much as Windows will forever be trying.

270  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Ramdisk playback drive space allocation on: October 05, 2015, 11:53:51 pm
I currently run 5g in both ramdisk files as recommended by Peter in order to playback some 24/96 and 24/192 music files.

Juan runs this setup:

Quote
XXHE and XXdata running from Ramdisk (A:) 1Gb/ Playback Drive: Ramdisk (B:) 6Gb

Is 1G enough space for XXhighend ram(A), in order to playback 24/96 and 24/192 files? Any problems Juan.

Does this make a difference to sound quality?
