391  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Still some ticks with 0.9z-7-5 on: October 16, 2012, 09:11:02 am
Gosh I'm reluctant to download this version also. The last one(Ver4) was a mission to get working and its certainly working fine for me now. I'm beginning to wonder if Linux is a better option perhaps Windows has had its day for audio! Really I'm over replacing the OS to recover from glitches, we just want the music. I have to say I'm on the road to a dedicated server build.
392  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: z7-4 Sound Quality on: September 30, 2012, 11:18:42 pm
Well ver4 certainly another step up in sound quality. I've still to complete some listening time to compare PA with no PA.

I feel guilty now requesting a refund for my last reactivation, the sound improvement appears to be as big as going from ver 6 to initial 7.

Thanks guys after much sweating I Paypal ed a new Activation code and after doing a new install it worked. XXhighend is working in all modes now. I need to relisten and play with settings.

When you do a new OS install why won't the Activation code work(I had a current z7 code)? All other programs(CD rip etc) I just copy and pasted and they worked.

Probably needs to be a post on this point for future reference.
394  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Undemo won't go on: September 29, 2012, 09:34:37 am
Gosh everything was working great PA included and then my HDD died.

Have new HDD, reload os and now can't undemo version 4 with 7 code. I've tried almost everything. Should it work with existing 7 code do I have to paypal or other?

We do get music though with PA on just can't undemo.

395  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Phase Alignment sound wise on: September 13, 2012, 10:10:42 am
At this point after finally getting it all to work I have to say I'm a little under whelmed with PA and in fact prefer not to use it.

PA in my system sounds like a filter. I'm much preferring it not engaged. I'm a drummer and cymbals are definitely dull sounding, lack sparkle. Sound stage is reduced the life appears to have gone from the music but it is smoother a bit like some power supply filter effects.

I realise this is early days, but PA needs more work to perfect it. Personally I think people need to tread very carefully trialling this new feature, checking DC is not something some people can do, there are still undiscovered effects of applying PA.

The sound coming from version -z73 is excellent anyway and a huge improvement over -z6. Everything is quicker and definitely less issues with ticks, SFS settings, coverart and xxhighend screen is better.
396  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: z7-3 PA Does Not Engage on: September 10, 2012, 10:45:51 am
I have success at last no DC at amplifiers the needle barely moved. I tested at different volumes while PA engaged.

What is interesting it plays whole albums at SFS 2 setting which it never did on version 6 or early 7 versions.

No unsettling ticks or plops, only minor ticks where they should be.
397  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: z7-3 PA Does Not Engage on: September 10, 2012, 09:04:18 am
Sorry for confusion but using original code all activated and PA is working on desktop but I now need to check for nasty DC.
398  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: z7-3 PA Does Not Engage on: September 10, 2012, 07:42:25 am
I've the same issue as Flecko PA not working with z7-3. I've got everything working except PA. I don't have any problems with XXhighend quitting though. Should I reactivate?
399  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Coverart and Phase Alignment signal on: September 09, 2012, 03:59:15 am
I don't use cover art at all. It would be great if you had a permanent means somewhere that would tell us whether PA is engaged or not.

Using version 709 I can't get cover art to work but using phase + it sounds better than 7-3 which I downloaded today but have not engaged PA. 7-3 only lasts 4 songs then stops using the same settings as in my profile and with 709.

Is a CD cover enough to get cover art working or do I need more data?

7-3 does load much quicker under unattended than 709. Also 709 does not have the button Allow phase alignment. Did this version not have PA so all I've done is activate Phase?
400  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Phase Alignment volume issues on: September 05, 2012, 10:22:24 am
Hi I have some issues re this scenario:

First I engaged Phase + at volume 0.0 as I run a pre-amp without checking DC offset at amplifier.

I thought this was running phase alignment correctly.

Quote
This really activates it as long as the digital output volume is less than -9dBFS.

I find this comment confusing is less -8dBFS or -10dBFS?

Quote
First off, it won't work with (XXHighEnd's !) Digital Attenuation of less than 9.5dBFS. So, the Digital Volume of XXHighEnd *has* to be used. Otherwise it won't engage.

After reading this several times I now take it that I have not engaged Phase Alignment. Is this correct?

The strange thing is there is a large sound difference between engaging Phase and disconnecting it even at my volume setting. It definitely sounds better engaged at my volume setting.

Obviously the more the digital setting is lowered(more attenuation) for me, the more I will have to raise my preamp volume.

At this point I need to check DC offset at amps then try PA.

Should we be putting this volume setting in our web signature? I realise everyone's setup is different so one persons setting will not work for another.

401  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Phase Alignment The Best Thing on: August 30, 2012, 11:23:31 pm
The dangers of drinking and Hi-Fi, certainly was stupid to attempt this without checking DC first. I most certainly would have been devastated if I had created needless destruction.

I would call Spectral gear very good in fact most if not all on these forums have very good equipment.

I suffer foot in mouth disease!!!!

402  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Phase Alignment The Best Thing on: August 30, 2012, 11:19:04 am
God I just tried it without checkin DC and what an improvement in sound. If you have GOOD well made gear this should not be a problem DC that is.

No plops, clicks or what ever just music.

403  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Some considerations to take into account with 09z-07 on: August 25, 2012, 11:40:44 pm
Yes I'm still over the moon with the better sound I had a good listen last night and wonder perhaps we need to savour the better sound before tweaking this beyond our capabilities.

Even with my pathetic laptop the sound is now way beyond what my $10k CD playback gave me. Its now for sale.
404  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Some considerations to take into account with 09z-07 on: August 25, 2012, 11:27:14 pm
Yes I'm struggling with this one also.

My thought was to partition drive that OS is on and reformat as FAT. What size would be required for this playback drive?

Is it preferable to use a separate drive rather than partition?

I've gone back to original yellow just find it easier to read as I slowly go blind at 57, old age setting in. No problems logging in automatically on all colours.
