Interesting that NOS 1's are still selling, as I said no new great DAC developments over what we currently have. I guess if there was, you would be trying them out!!!!

Also interesting I have the KD Lang Inguene HDtrack 24/192 25th anniversary download, by the 3rd track it starts to stutter, comes right but on the 4th it stutters ongoing. Unrelated to the stutter but it caused me to check out the original recording.

In going back to the original 16/44 recording 1992 I can't believe how good this is and in fact appears to have some HF information not on the 24/192. And a naturalness to the sound. It is disappointing that some of the so called HD recordings remastered are not better than the original. They do have less background noise but something is missing from the music.

I'm sticking to new recordings done in HD format. I notice more are now 24/44. Robert

working for weeks on fi-nal-ly a 64 bit OS for my main PC

Were you looking at this for Ram OS?

Did you manage to sort issues around some hires files stopping after 2 or more tracks at low SFS settings?

Yes I am. Have to note Audiophile Style site is also nearly asleep. I guess everyone is happy with what they have. No new break through products not even on the horizon except for next Xxhighend version. Even Lush cables are old news now apart from new connections. Listening to the music is so good. Robert

I find this setting Q1 at 5 and xQ1 30 is even better than the opposite. I'm currently finding Xxhighend is very responsive to Alt commands and almost responds immediately.

Still running custom filters Low 705600. Differences between filters easily noticable.

Actually does sound better in every way.

Hi Nick, I will try what you suggest but is your signature up to date especially OS version and Xx version?

with lower speeds the sound gets softer in a way I dont like

Do you mean with CPU underclocking or Ram?

I've tried underclocking Ram and felt it wasn't as good soundwise. This was with the CPU already underclocked. I currently run Ram per default speed.

I've been playing with Xxhighend settings lately so haven't tried Bios settings. I try not to play with too many sound balls in the air so to speak!!!!

I hope this general PC testing is ok to post here, if someone will even find it useful

Its a great idea its an area that needs more work. When I updated Bios last year, it put all settings back to default.

Took me a month to realise. This time I went further and it did make a bigger difference. But I've wondered if I did lose something with lower clock speed as you suggest.

I havn't played with voltages. Online there's heaps on overclocking using voltages for gaming but nothing with regards to music. Keep the good work up.

I'm afraid the new low SFS which sounds amazing does not work well with 24/96/192 Hi res tracks from various albums. I had this problem some time back with low SFS and its returned. Some only play one track then stop. This is after loading whole album into Ram for all. Another only plays 2 tracks then stops. Black Sabbath Vol4 24/96 after the 2nd track distorts at the start of each track then comes right till the next track. KD Lang 24/96 did the same but did continue to play tracks with distortion at track starts after 2 tracks have played. No problems with 16/44 CD's.

Bert most certainly liking Custom Low setting now. Going back to Arc I can hear what you describe.
I have to ask are you still using barebone Intona?

Bert I tried your custom setting but went back to Arc Predict almost immediately. I was outvoted by 3 non HiFi people in the house. I did prefer Arc also. Good suggestion though.

I find custom filter seems to add something which masks the sound somewhat. I'd be wary of tweaking your speakers too soon. Guess you can always go back.

Happy new year and all. Gosh don't know but the new settings are amazing as we enter New Year celebrations.

And no odd glitches as per high SFS.

Everything performing perfectly. Off to hear a real band well a covers one but with real instruments.

Certainly is an interesting sound even on my non Mack. All settings work fine. As you describe it certainly sounds like it.

Where have you set Max SFS? Don't know if this affects soundwise.

Peter,
Funny you should mention buzzing I noticed this yesterday on Mark Knopflers new album first track.

Anyway I will try 100.19 SFS. Have you changed xQ1 for this setting.

I'm still running xQ1 at 20 prefer it over 10.

I find SFS 10.19 and Q1 x 30 + xQ1 x 20 too smooth losing the edge of cymbals and lead guitar.

But also find SFS 140.19 Q1 x 30 + xQ1 x 10 a little brittle and bright in the treble.

I'm now trying SFS 70.19 Q1 x 30 + xQ1 x 20 seems to be a good compromise but further listening happening.

Certainly worth trying out in different computer setups.
