106  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Buglist as per September 13, 2007 on: September 15, 2007, 01:38:47 pm
Buttons for previous and next track selection.
I don't understand this. These buttons are just there from the beginning. So what do you mean, please ?

You know after all this time and I didn't even notice them there whistle Probably because I am conditioned to seeing them alongside 'play', 'pause' 'stop' etc

I could allow for pressing Clear twice though, so at a second time that playing track would stop playing and disappear from the Playlist Area.

That would be good good

... Which most probably is because you don't know how to do it ?
So, indeed selecting a complete folder currently does not work. That will be in there though. However :
What you currently should do is :
Use Explorer to find your albums. Go into the album folder. Select the tracks you want (ctrl-click, ctrl-shift-click, etc.), and DRAG them onto the Playlist Area.
Remember, use Explorer.

Well thats sorted that out, I wasn't using Explorer  oops- thanks
107  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Buglist as per September 13, 2007 on: September 15, 2007, 11:28:16 am
My contribution, including some already mentioned:

1. Buttons for previous and next track selection.

2. Larger area of the screen for album cover image.

3. When a track is playing it seems protected from other operations. For instance if you hit 'clear', all tracks go except that one. It is a bit fussy having to hit stop first.

4. My biggest frustration is in selecting all tracks on an album to play from my hard drive.

The current operation is a) find the album folder on my hard drive storage, b) click on it to drop down all the track titles, c) click/hold and drag over all the tracks to select them d) hit open to transfer to XXHighend.

It would be really good to have a single button operation to select the total album - perhaps a drag and drop of the album folder (hence my interest in cue files). Perhaps this is not possible.
108  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Idiot alert - what are cue files on: September 14, 2007, 04:28:19 pm
Well everyone seems to be happy that XXHighend can now handle cue files. clapping clapping

I'm sure I would be equally happy if I knew what they were Happy.

Are they inserted somewhere by EAC or what dntknw dntknw dntknw
109  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: What have I done ... on: August 15, 2007, 12:16:13 am
Well done Peter, with the release of 0.9i, XXhighEnd is really cooking very happy very happy.

My life is too busy at present to sit for prolonged periods evaluating what is happening to frequency responses, sound staging etc, but I do really appreciate those people that give us the details.

My main criteria at present is to engage emotionally with any music I listen to, whether it is by tapping a foot, wanting to dance, sing, or by having the music affect the mood I am in.

Early days, XX satisfied all the necessary Hi-Fi criteria enough to make me part with a pretty expensive CDP.

Version 0.9i allows me to dial-in maximum emotional involvement. I have never enjoyed home Hi-Fi this much in the 35 years I have been in the hobby. drinks drinks

Rear loaded Lowthers (DX4s) are wonderful drivers when operated in their optimum window, turn them up too loud and the sound goes from magic to confused. For the first time I can play loud without feeling as if I have been 10 rounds with a heavyweight boxer.

Here is the final testament. The sound of CD now comfortably exceeds the sound of vinyl using my Linn Sondek, Ittok etc. By the end of this year the record deck, phono stage and all vinyl will be gone.
It don't get much better than that. Good job ! Good job ! Good job !
110  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9i and Q1 parameter boundaries, how ? on: August 14, 2007, 04:40:27 pm
Hi Peter

Its great having a parameter (or two) that can be trimmed to optimise performance. good

As you will know from my preceeding saga with the Dell computer, I now have it working just fine, but I cant push the sampling on the Fireface lower than 256 without occasional dropouts. dntknw

With this in mind I approached the use of 0.9i with some trepidation. Surprisingly I can run anywhere between Q1 and Q30 without dropouts or clicks yahoo yahoo

I personally have settled around Q1 of 11, so extending the boundaries up or down would serve no purpose for me.

Cheers Chris

Hi Frode, just checking, but Engine 3 is exclusive to Vista. Are you running that?
112  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: ver .9D vs .9H on: August 11, 2007, 11:44:26 am
Hi guys
Interesting discussion, but neither of you have stated whether you are using upsampling or doubling. I personally think 0.9h sounds better without Grin

113  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Questions on EAC on: August 07, 2007, 09:43:58 am
Hi Boggie

Welcome to the club.

Regarding the cache issue. Let your EAC check your drive. If it wants to put a check in the box, then leave it there.

This is the text you get if you hover over the box.

"If your drive caches the audio just read, it would be a problem to read this data again in order to compare both extractions to find out if they match.  In that case this option has to be enabled, so that EAC will clear the cache by overreading it.  If your drive support this feature could be tested using the fuction at the bottom".

Its a terrible bit of English but I think it means - if your drive wants to use a cache then EAC cant do its job properly as it cant get at the data to monitor it. By checking the box this disables the cache and EAC works at its best.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Chris

Hi Peter

Your explanations make it much, much clearer. good

Interesting there are still many issues with EAC, perhaps one day we will see XXHighEnd with built in ripper?? Wink Wink

Perhaps I will give paranoid mode a try and see how it sounds.

Cheers Chris
115  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Questions on EAC on: August 04, 2007, 09:31:32 am
Wait.  I don't understand.  If EAC, (using detect read features) says Yes to my drive caches, then I need to checkmark "Drive caches audio data" in Drive Options > Extraction Methods tab... right???

I have 2 drives in my PC (CD and DVD). Initially I unchecked the cache boxes, but when using the detect read feature it put a check back in on both, so I left it like that.

My drives and EAC PC are about 8 years old, (highly specified and expensive at the time!) so may have to think again which PC I use for EAC.
116  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Questions on EAC on: August 03, 2007, 10:36:26 pm
This is the first time I have used EAC with a vengence, so a couple of questions by way of a reality check.

Firstly on my old XP desktop it is burning at a speed of about 3 times - this seems a bit slow?

On the report at the end of each album rip the quality of most tracks is defined as 100.0%. One or two tracks fall short - one track for instance was 98.8%.  Is this normal?

Cheers
Chris

I make so many folders with different favourit tracks.

That is what the PlayLists are for Gerner ...

I hadn't twigged either till now blush2 blush2 blush2

And Gerner, when you gonna put your system in your profile signature? whistle whistle

NOW  Wink

Yes!!  Sorry to be a pain, but could you offer the name of the Vista laptop. It would be nice to know which ones are totally glitch free, even at a latency of 48. Also do you use the built in firewire connection?

Where do you get this search facility of which you speak? dntknw dntknw
120  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Most convenient Storage Structure ? on: August 01, 2007, 11:37:50 am
Thanks Dave

Yes I could save a layer or two, but my aim is to view the folders in each layer as lists, and that (within reason) no list should be longer than a screen full (no scrolling). By having the additional layers this looks achievable.

As you say, there is no prescribed way of doing this . The key obviously is to get it right 'for you', first time Wink

Cheers Chris
