271  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Core Appointment and Multicore CPU-s on: May 14, 2010, 11:34:52 am
Hi,

I read the description of cpu core appointment schemes and I see that it is based on dual core architecture. How does it work with tricores, quads and up? I currently use AMD X3 CPU and am quite sure that Scheme-2 sounds better than Scheme-3. Is there any rule that applies to multicore systems?

Cheers,
Marcin

I remember when i had a dual cpu i used scheme 2 as well. With a single dual core, I use schme 3.

By that time you might post some guidelines how to setup Girder. I know it's one of the best programs out there for this stuff, but always as I try it it takes me too long to get it all. And the next time the trial has expired. swoon

Happy

I dont have a trial Wink

BTW, I remember these steps:
1. setup the irTRANS as MCE, following the guidelines in the drivers install readme (if you have another receiver, set it as windows mce).
2. girder has a very intuitive interface. the time it takes is to learn that you basically have to make a folder for each command and in it the list of commands to give.
3. lots of use of the tutorial, trials and errors
4. basically, all commands are a macro (but without using the macro, they follow the order in which you put them):
ex PLAY (i'm going from memory of over 1 month ago)
[PLAY]
|-dont execute if xxhe is not running
|-play - put focus to xxhe window
|-keyboard - CTRL+P
|-xxhe window minimize

Since i use attended, i have a lot of focus and minimize/maximize window commands added to each set.
It took me a FULL weekend to get the best of it and use it fully. Only thing missing is a working gallery and tree navigation, because i couldnt give focus to the tree and because the cursor jumps are not accurate.

If you want, when i'm home, i'll send you my file (note that lots of buttons have custom names that i made in irtrans config).

Just get yourself a USB bluetooth receiver for that. I am not sure, but I don't think *that* harms.

I have one, but i didnt play with it yet Wink

Philips makes some nice universal remotes which are not too full of buttons.

I use an harmony with girder as software, and IRtrans receiver builtin in my case.
When xxhe will have full support, i'll be 100% operative with the remote.

The problem I would have with this, is that it requires WiFi in the audio PC. In this is not "allowed" ... says me. Happy
Maybe with some intermediate product, like an Apple Airport (Extreme) (a wrireless router). But I don't know much about it.

Peter

Cant it use bluetooth? (my iphone can, so asking)
276  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 'Lightspeed attenuator' vs digital attenuation? on: May 12, 2010, 06:06:08 pm
I saw this nice looking DIY schematic 'Lightspeed attenuator' that uses optocouplers to attenuate the signal and my soldering iron started to get itchy, when I had the thought that maybe the digital attentuation inherent in XXHighEnd was as good/better. Any thoughts?

I have to admit that I am probably going to have to build one of these babies because the 'Legit' volume increments in XXHighEnd are too large  for my system - in one step it goes from quite quiet to waking my children up, although I guess there is always soundproofing.

Any connectors or cable on the signal path will be worse than a lossless digital attenuation, period.
But I also agree with you that the steps in xxhe are too broad. That's the only way he could make it lossless, so it's a give or take.

the lightspeed requires that the source and amp are ALREADY matched in impedance, otherwise you'll need a buffer (i.e. more components along the way).
277  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Digital filtering on: May 08, 2010, 03:56:37 pm
Hi Ben,

Unfortuately all VST hosts that exist have fixed sample rate.
99% of my library is redbook, so i set that and xxhe with a definite setting (which is without upsampling in the main setup).

PS: Reaper never worked for me on PC.
278  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: May 03, 2010, 05:57:34 pm
Hi again Andrea,

So ... in my earlier post I said I estimated what you were up to. Now please allow me to ask you ... Happy
?
Peter

I think he wants to build a cheap 2ch NOS dac able to play highres material.

Oh, I have another request Peter, if it's not destroyed, leave a spdif digital input - thinking to connect my tv.

If I stay with this option, yes, there will be a volume control.

With remote? Happy

<-- lazy.

But ... only when it doesn't degrade. If it does, it just isn't a good idea. It shouldn't degrade, but the setup is a little strange. So I'll have to measure it. When I have done that, I will let you know.

OK, thanks. You know how eager i am to listen to the "really finished" DAC Happy
281  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? Status Update on: May 01, 2010, 01:30:29 pm
Only one thing.

which now is just 2VRMS (which is the standard). Also, this will allow for headphone output, although in theory only (read : this has not been tested yet).

So, there will be a volume control? I dont remember if you canceled this option or not.

The headphone out would be VERY VERY handy. Lots of people like to listen with those (not me unless i'm working), but also allows for an easy comparison with the normal system (amps and speakers), which would be VERY handy for me Happy
282  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Sound quality: internal hard drive vs NAS with XXHighend on: April 30, 2010, 10:32:23 am
How is the NAS connected? Ethernet, firewire or usb?
283  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: April 28, 2010, 04:43:52 pm
Funny Bill ... but you REALLY are the first one to ask. I guess it is known that I don't tell everything which is regarded a secret (propriatary) in the first place ? Or everybody thinks this is no problem ?

I think I know. But I wont tell grazy

284  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: The best amp and speaker setup for digital playback on: April 28, 2010, 04:41:31 pm
But it has served me well for quite a while now.

Whatever works for you. Happy
285  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: moving XXHighEnd on: April 27, 2010, 09:03:40 pm
I know it is possible to move  Grin   but will XXHighEnd work again?

Where is the gallery? If it is in the same path (i.e. C:\xxgallery , on the SSD in my case), it shoudl work fine.
I always copy the whole folder and xxhe worked for me so far.
Do this - copy it (duplicate the folder) and run it from the new location. Adjust the temp folders etc in the settings. restart. if all works good you can delete the old folder.

I suspect that v1.0 will come with an installer Wink
