FYI I do NOT have such problems with Girder Happy
302  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: April 14, 2010, 11:15:16 am
... it really requires a 24bit NOS filterless DAC to appreciate it. I have an oversampling DAC in my office system and prefer not using Arc Prediction at all with it. In my main listening room, I have a 24bit ADC/DAC that I believe is non-oversampling at >176.4 KHz, and I much prefer using QAP to anything else.

Yes, indeed I prefer straight 44.1k without any upsampling on my OS AKM DAC.

Hi there Jarek,

I am sorry for your problems, but as you will have seen you are still the only one reporting this. But ...

Nope, it happened just yesterday to me as well. Was going to post when i saw this.
Problem solved removing points and commas in the filenames and folder name.

305  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: XX Interface on: April 08, 2010, 06:39:46 pm
I always found the mediaportal "my music" interface with HUGE text and black skin to be the nicest UI. Basically to giveup the classic windows look and go for something in xml and flash.
The library/gallery looks quite good (except the text too small) and lack of snappyness.

BTW Peter, i think you know that when you select a different folder the library window remembers the position, i.e. if i was near the end of "CELTIC" and i go to "INDIE" it doesnt start from the beginning of the albums in that folder (but it should).

Now I am "struggeling" with a display, but because nothing really good is available I may give up on that soon (but a display would be nice !).
It really can't take months anymore now ...

Peter

Consider VFD or full color lcd, the former being cheaper and still good looking (see nuforce cd, and many others).
308  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: What to do? on: April 04, 2010, 01:00:31 pm
Well, internal souncards have always better latency, so i would go with one of those. Consider wordclock input if your dac has.
309  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: PCI soundcards on: March 31, 2010, 03:39:44 pm
Hi,
Is there anything better than Cantatis Overture available?

Seems not Happy
310  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: OS latency on: March 28, 2010, 02:00:07 pm
Yes, I'm afraid this is a commonly known issue, and applying to IR keyboards as well.

Interesting.
I have the logitech cordless desktop, the most basic one, and I dont experience any difference in the latency pattern when just moving the mouse or using the keyboard (the latter is very rare). Nor when giving commands with IRTrans/Girder.

I believe that is the cr*ppy logitech software. Since long time (once it caused soo many problems in an otherwise excellent system), i never install it.
So i would sugges to uninstall the logitech software and use the built-in windows drivers.
This means no extra keys, sorry.
311  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 09-y8 on: March 25, 2010, 12:18:11 pm
No problems with adaptive mode in 8c. This even works with very low buffersettings and low Q1 (2-3). I however do prefer normal mode on my system. I've also been playing with the sliders and buffer, but got no satifying sweet spot with 8c.

regards, Coen

If you dont upsample, try Q1:1, all other Q to 0 and adaptive mode. Choose the lowest latency that does not give you "too many buffers" error. For me this sounds best.
312  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: user manual on: March 23, 2010, 10:02:19 pm
I started reading all the postings the day before yesterday ( but in the opposite way!). A lot can be found indeed but it's a hell of a job.

Yes, it takes time of searching the forums.

A good quick start is to copy the settings put in the signature by Peter and other old time users.
You will notice a little difference but also some commong things - they are usually the right settings Happy

314  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / UI suggestions on: March 18, 2010, 04:38:08 pm
Not sure in which forum to put this, so i'll put it here.

Space
For small screens, the left area is too large. Therefore i suggest a smaller footprint for the album and the following reordering of buttons and elements:
-Q1 moved to the Q settings tab.
-Volume slider horizontal above or below the main elements OR Quality/upsampling settings to be put horizontal instead
-Playlist controls moved at the bottom, in horizontal, just above the album art
-Next and Next album button to be full size (i never liked when you added the latter making em smaller)
-the off button is superfluous, the program can be terminated clicking on the x (Next -track- can replace it)

Tabs
-Add an apply settings button (asked about 1 year ago  unhappy when the software was much more buggy)
-Remove the undemo tab ad put it in the settings or info tab. You said it couldnt be removed after registration, this way is less noticeable

Library tree (explorer)
-Allow double click on a single song in the tree to be automatically put in the playlist. Many, many times my SO wants to do that and doesnt like to use the explorer button.
-control elements in one line instead of two to optimize footprint for small screens

-(in the future maybe) allow for more than one music root (you know, like adding folders). Or maybe allow shortcuts in there to work. in my case i keep separated compressed (mp3) files, some of which are almost impossible to replace in lossless and i have to keep it out of the xxhe music root.
OR
-alternatively to not be it fussy for an entire disk as the root (but maybe exclude folders to be considered instead of the above suggestion).

That's all for now Happy
315  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: What can it be ? on: March 18, 2010, 02:50:32 pm
Yes, the original problem is linked to RamDisc.
Now, evething is nice when XX runs alone from HDD. I have more problems when Firefox is running at the same time. I will explain it later.

This is a new one. But could be.
On my studio I have firefox running all the time, and seldom i experience xxhe crashes (MUCH less with the newer version i have to say). I blamed creative drivers.
Not a single crash (finally) on the dedicated computer where nothing unneeded runs, since y6 i think to remember.
