For those actively doing this to gain some speed in the Library Area ... don't.
Or at least not right now.

You saved my day Happy
I calculated about 150 covers to resize.
482  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-1d ... wow! on: September 02, 2009, 01:42:12 pm
Roy, my speakers are Ascendo System M (ascendo.de) the Xovers are 80Hz & 3200 Hz. Tweeters are Ribbon's.

Well, well, some ribbons do indeed sound harsh. they have a bump in the very HFs. And that's not the source fault.
I'll wait for y3, but i suspect that y version compared to x is more transparent and truthful.

I also would like the chance to add VST plugins, but that's not happening because it woudl compromise the SQ (Peter's words and I believe him).
There will be FIR filters and one can add the equalization in those (by means of secondary programs and not with realtime controls).
483  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: September 02, 2009, 01:34:28 pm
We must be very careful here, because what I by now reject, could have been a 100% desire one year ago. By now I am spoiled like hell, and nothing is good enough except for the new and better than before. Stupid example : If you read Telstar's post again (a few posts back) ... we spend a day (that includes a night Happy) at comparing a perceived good OS DAC with mine of that time. We were honest, and compared with SPDIF only, because the OS DAC could connect to SPDIF only. But, I and "we" knew there was also I2S, and the only thing what happened with that is that I told it was tremendously better, but nobody ever asked to listen to that, and so we never did. Isn't that strange ? (btw, through the tears in my eyes I've seen them in Telstars' but never mind that haha).

I thought I listened to i2s at the very beginning  unhappy then switching to SPDIF for a fair comparison with the other DAC.

If you read my post of 6 months ago, after the audition, maybe between the lines, cuz i dont remember, I said that the NOS1 sounded very very good, but it lacked that extra, the "emotion" that I'm looking for and that so far I got only from the Naim cd555.

By all means, Peter, go over the top with the power supplies (in particular for the clock*). I'm pretty sure some of the magic of digital (not sounding such, in the good sense) comes from there.

*if you haven't, take a look at Terra Firma XO writeup on their site (forgot who are they, but they are $wi$$).

Telstar,

Try Unattended, YOU ARE IN CONTROL, REALLY!

I like it now, and before I didn't.

OOOOK, looks like i have to Happy

BTW, i'll be sending you an email later about an interesting speaker that i have found (before the vacations).
485  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-1d ... wow! on: September 01, 2009, 04:51:26 pm
- and xx Unattended (at thist point a get a WOW from him, before he felt off his chair)

OK, I now gotta try unattended again Wink
486  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: The Sound of your PC on: September 01, 2009, 04:43:42 pm

If I move the mouse, some tick-tick-tick is audible.
If I hover the mouse over a button, trrrrrrrr is audible;
If I let a Tooltip popup, TRRRRRRRRRRRR is audible.

If I move the mouse, nothing happens, even if it brings on front the taskbar.
If I make active xxhe window or Console window, nothing changes.
If I browse through the gallery, there can be an occasional tick trr or something like that.
If I transfer files through usb or the lan, the trrr and general dirtyness are almost sure.

I have large buffers (2s) but they are not enough. Most is culprit of the poor asio drivers of the Quartet.
Waiting for new ones or your DAC, whichever comes first Happy

Keep this in mind when you think "the h*ll with Unattended", and instead think Unattended will avoid these influences to a large extend. It really does, and that is what Unattended is for.

Peter

I'll give unattended another chance, but i hate to not be in control of everything my pc is doing.
487  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: changing volume crashes in y1d (and prolly y2) on: August 31, 2009, 09:14:43 pm
3) Add to gallery working on the treeview (the explorer thing), instead of having to select dozens of albums which takes up to ONE MINUTE in my case. Scrolling in the library is VERY slow when exists highres covers. This is the reason why i tried to make a gallery today at last. And its working Happy

Hey hey ho ho, slow down please. I already don't understand the first part ! Don't understand the second part either "instead of heaving ...") and when scrolling in the library is very slow ... well, what do you want with 38MB pictures hehe. But if I can help somehow with that ... (apart from that you can save them as 500x500 already), please make clear what it is I could do. whistle

Trying to rephrase.
In the treeview on the left, would it be possible to rightclick on a folder and have an "add to gallery" context menu?
This instead of selecting all the albums from the library window?
Alternatively, a create gallery button or command to do it all from the settings? That would probably the best for the future. No hurry anyway.

4) Next and "NT" are too small and the second one lacks the tooltip.
scratching

I was referring to the "Nt" and "Nal" buttons, actually scambling them. The "Nal" button has no tooltip. I dont remember why you added it, but I preferred when there was just Next, which was readable.
I dont know why you chose to have only buttons and not menu commands, that would be easier to do changes/additions.

5) Repeat playlist, repeat track commands, ticks or whatever would be very useful. i often like to repeat one track 3-4 times. Also stop after current track (note: Foobar does this).

I guess repeating a track can be done with A-B selection. NOTE though that I estimate that currently it doesn't work anymore. Messed too much in that area lately. Will check it. Do that 3 times only ... mwah ...
Repeat Playlist ? ... can theoretically be done for Attended. Not for Unattended.

My requests are all for attended. I would really like the repeat track (infinite until i unckeck it) and repeat playlist.

6) not sure if reordering the tracks in the playlist is fixed now.

??

I meant to move the order of one track in the playlist, using the mouse, to rearrange the songs in a playlist.
I remember it was broken a couple of months ago and I remember you told me that was going to be fixed asap. So my question was: has it been fixed?
488  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Version 0.9y-2 feedback on: August 31, 2009, 08:52:45 pm

I noticed that a folder with dot also causes problem to the cover gallery. I just removed the point (it was ALT. ROCK replaced with full word).

Please clarify ? cover gallery ?

The album list with cover art does not show for folders named with a dot in it. I didnt pay much attention until I read this thread. Then I removed the dot and it worked. Happy

BTW, Peter, the xxhe unexpected error with changing the volume still happens with y-2a to me. Tell me which logs do you need (the crash is a couple hours ago, though).

The relevant XX and X3 I guess. But please also try to explain what you do; if you try to change the volume three times within 1 second ... never mind, I know that one. Must create something for that ... yes

No, but i take some time (up to 2s i think) to choose the desired level, because the slider is very small and the text even smaller.
Until I release the mouse button, it shouldnt change the volume, that way this known issue shouldnt happen. Am i correct?

489  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: How To Make A Gallery on: August 31, 2009, 06:54:07 pm
If someone can explain the picture layout, please!

Don't get it??? Wink

You got mail.

I did the gallery selecting the albums (by genre too). Not sure if faster than with the tick box, but i think yes, for genres with not many albums, otherwise scrolling is SLOW.

I have the prob of a few cover arts very big (like 2000x2000) and close to 1mb size, but overall I have less than 5GB of gallery folder so far and happy Happy
490  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: changing volume crashes in y1d (and prolly y2) on: August 31, 2009, 05:26:38 pm
Many of that that kind of errors were solved in 0.9y-2(a). I myself see nothing going wrong anymore with the volume (use it all the time). Of course, if I have to I can let it go wrong ...

I think the scrollwheel already works, but you'd have to select the control first (meaning click the button), and next I don't see much difference with sliding the slider.
As you know, it won't respond fast enough to be of real use (or have an advantage) anyway. Well, IMO.
Also, the granularity doesn't fit the volume steps.

Peter

Two things on the scrollwheel:
1) It would be possible to make it work just by putting the mouse on the volume slider w/o clicking it? (i just got an error again by clicking + one scroll up, very annoying -see the previous post). OR just when xxhe window is active.
2) To be a scroll of just ONE step at a time. This can be related to the scroll lines in the mouse properties in vista/w7. Can you verify this? I think the default is 3 lines and the volume jumped of 3 steps, which is obviously more than I want Happy
This is the reason why i want it. With the screen at 2m from my seating place i want to just adjust the volume with one mouse click/scroll. If i had the remote working i wouldnt be bothering i know.

More things to improve usability:
3) Add to gallery working on the treeview (the explorer thing), instead of having to select dozens of albums which takes up to ONE MINUTE in my case. Scrolling in the library is VERY slow when exists highres covers. This is the reason why i tried to make a gallery today at last. And its working Happy

4) Next and "NT" are too small and the second one lacks the tooltip.

5) Repeat playlist, repeat track commands, ticks or whatever would be very useful. i often like to repeat one track 3-4 times. Also stop after current track (note: Foobar does this).

6) not sure if reordering the tracks in the playlist is fixed now.
491  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Version 0.9y-2 feedback on: August 31, 2009, 05:18:30 pm
B.B. King and everyone he played with Happy, is solved for the next version (0.9y-3).

I noticed that a folder with dot also causes problem to the cover gallery. I just removed the point (it was ALT. ROCK replaced with full word).

BTW, Peter, the xxhe unexpected error with changing the volume still happens with y-2a to me. Tell me which logs do you need (the crash is a couple hours ago, though).
492  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / changing volume crashes in y1d (and prolly y2) on: August 30, 2009, 05:14:07 pm
Not tried y2 yet, but before I went away I occasionally experienced an error (with sound stopping) after CHANGING the volume with the mouse in y1-d.

Because I usually change it only by one notch, would it be possible to implement the mousewheel? It would be very handy until I manage to have the IRtrans and remote working (which means rolling back to vista unhappy )

493  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? Yahoo ! on: August 30, 2009, 05:08:02 pm
Phew, the album just finished minutes ago, and the shivers won't go away.
And then imagine it was the last album I played yesterday, sounding awfully good already (you just can't sit still on that last 19 minute track), but shivers ? no, not that I was aware of.

Shivers.
This is what I wanted.
I didn't get them when I heard the very early prototype of the NOS1. It sounded better than most digital sources that I have ever listened to but it dint get into the emotional level. I think (hope) you are there now. I just got back from short vacations and I think I have to fly again soon... Happy
494  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: How I tweaked my Vista virtually dead on: August 21, 2009, 10:35:06 pm
Themes and UxSms.

What UxSms does? Do you know the full service name in english?

I just put vista basic theme (not sure about SQ improvements) and stretched wallpaper and the cover art shows fine (thanks Roy for the tip). i also found the perfect size to fit most of the screen is 660px.
495  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: How I tweaked my Vista virtually dead on: August 21, 2009, 10:30:00 pm
Yes Telstar look in to that please,

you have dedicated machine now.

I will when i'll come back from the vacations.
I can say that even with those 3-4 extra services my pc is already as dead as Peter's.

I wont remove trustedinstaller, but i think that it can be a leftover of some program install that went not too well. Vista/w7 are very easy to screw up the installer.
I check the event log (the stuff that is not disabled lol) for errors after each important update/install/driver/change. There mustnt be errorrs.

But i'm afraid that i'll have to rollback to vista to be able to use the VFD/remote unhappy
